CBLindsay's brain droppings

Here’s hoping your new assembly person is anemiable to working together and that my favorite soap tester is back in good health soon

Sorry about the missus Chris! If somebody gets a funky soap scent, I guess we’ll know what happened to you! ?

You have a General too? Very nice!

straight shave #890

I figured I would document my #890th because it is a round number. I decided to use the TSC legacy brush, Mitchells Wool fat and one of my fancy frame backs. I know MWF gets talked a lot about (in other places more than here) and is somewhat legendary for being the best or the worst. ME? I have no problems with it and find the soapy scent enjoyable but I don't find it significantly better than other good soaps. The biggest issue with this soap is how foamy it gets while loading....lots and lots of useless foam spills from the container as I load the brush. This morning I wiped the foam on my face.

The shave went well, perfectly smooth with no injury or irritation. The razor is well honed and delivered a very nice shave. I finished with a good splash of Pinaud Gents Gin and a few Vasilli's of Penhaligons Orange Blossom. The Pens is great but the Pinaud is no slouch either. If someone wants a long lasting, mature smelling AS the Gents Gin and Whisky woods (I am not sure that s the name) are great choices.

Nice shave Chris, I like both of those Pinaud Reserves (Gents Gin and Whiskey Woods) The Brandy Spice is ok, but not as good as those 2. No hitting the dull-drums as you close in on 1,000 straight shaves now !

MWF was one of my first two soaps, and I've never had a problem with it either. Very nice shave, and I hope the missus feels better soon.

I have never used MWF...it's just one of those things that I never got around to. I likely won't either...just too many other good soaps i am trying to get to!

Nice write up! Agree about the feminine aspect to Nightingale
not to say it is a bad scent, sone say the same thing about Tabac and many swear by it reguardless. Hope yall have a fun weekend, sounds like a great time if the weather holds up.

Pinaud Whiskey Woods (and the others) are a great addition to the Pinaud line. Thry have a classy more modern vibe compaired to the old standard scents. Also agree about MWF, it lathers just fine but the scent is pretty plain which can cause it to be overlooked.

Da Fat - another polarizing soap.

I've only had one exceptional lather with it - just one, and that was with the hotel water in Toronto. Other than that, it's "meh" for me.

Well, sounds like you have your "Toronto" soap nailed!

...still at straight shave #890

Recapping the last week isn't all that hard because I really haven't shaved since last Friday. Saturday started too early and ended too late to allow a shave. Sunday started well enough but quickly got out of hand. I awoke Monday morning an hour earlier than usual thanks to the time change (the clocks were changed but not my internal clock) so I had nothing but time...but 2 skipped days had me halfway to wolfman status so i just cleaned up the neck and headed to the office early. NOW I am ready to howl at the moon and wondering if I should stick it out for the remainder of the month and do some fantastic month-end shave. Perhaps I can sharpen and ax or some such thing. In the mean time I need to find some beads to weave into my beard like the pirates used to do.
I definitely look a little different when I skip a few shaves....

.... I need to find some beads to weave into my beard like the pirates used to do....
When I was a sophomore in college, I didn't shave or trim my beard for a whole year. The day before I finally got rid of it, I braided two strands to mimic David Allan Coe from one of his album covers. It looked ridiculous! Or scary, depending on your point of view.

It has been some time since I updated my shave journal ...because it has been some time since I have shaved. I am currently sporting a beard that is almost a month old, grown in support of "no-shave November". Sometime this weekend I will shave off the beard, leaving my typical goatee and 'stach. Since I have primarily been using the Aristocrat (loaded with Bolsano blade) to keep my neckline clean, the removal will mark straight shave #891. I MAY end up shaving the beard off with a hand axe but that will depend on whether I can hammer out the mods and get it honed with the little time remaining. The last axe I honed for shaving took several days to do. In any case I will attempt to record the removal for the enjoyment of all. I have not decided on a soap or brush yet but if the axe is not available I plan to use either the Weck Med Prep (with guard in place) or the Saponificio Varesino Leonardo Di Vinci. The weck has the advantage of a sharp edge and training wheels to help set the stage for a nice shave while the LDV has heft and a super keen edge on its side. My goal is to avoid altering my facial skin integrity while removing the beard because I have a trip planned next week I would like to avoid looking like quasimodo for.

If not for the anniversary trip planned next week I would get creative with how I shave, perhaps mutton chops or that long mustache thing the guy on orient express had. My wife has made it clear she has enjoyed the beard but it is not invited on our trip.
