CBLindsay's brain droppings

Get your wallets ready boys. Sounds like a straight razor purge is upon us!

I have a lot of plain old user grade jobs, I am sure we can find something that fits everyone's taste and budget. My wife never said how much i should charge for my precious razors, I think she expects me to sell the expensive ones to pay for our 25th anniversary at the end of the year. ...not gonna happen.

That is a lot of honing. I can’t even seem to scrape the time together to hone my far more modest collection.

I was a bit behind, but caught back up. Sorry to hear about Frankie. Those are some exciting projects you are working on.

Nice check in/catch up entry Chris!
I'm with Eric on the honing! 100 razors to hone, wow!

Nice update Chris...I've got to get a lot of my straights back to the hones for refreshes here soon as well, though I have less than 20% of what you do. Good job getting the soap website off of the ground!

I was able to get 15 or 16 done over the past couple days. I set up my garage workshop with a few good stones and wait until everyone’s gone to bed then I stay out there until 1 or 2 am. I have my iPad playing videos or movies so time goes pretty quickly. I’ve have 5 or 6 that needed more than a touch up, they had chips or wonky bevels I had just lived. Now they are solid. Of the 15 or so I have done I might be able to part with 5 (but that will be tough), they are uglyducklings but I have some good memories with them.
Eventually I will get through the ones I use in rotation and get to work on the ones I have broken apart for cleaning or restoration. Some of those I should just sell off now but there are some winners in there.

So many projects, so little time. I have a smoker project in the garage for over three years now that I have not yet welded together. The best time to work on it is in the fall or the spring as it is not too hot for the welding PPE, but not too cold either. But I have to make firewood this fall. We will see what spring brings.

Straight shave #847

Another check in and summary...

Today I shaved with the Feather SS loaded with a fresh Pro-guard. My last video shave was with a Pro-guard that had seen its last shave and was quite violent, this one was much better. The lather was my own Cigar Shop Cowboy lathered with one of my newer creations, a 30mm 2 band badger in CBL custom handle. 30mm set in a 15mm hole 32.5mm wide makes for a HUGE bloomed knot. I can lather this beast up and have enough lather for a herd of jackalopes. The shave was pleasant enough, 3 passes with a few little touch-ups to get a wonderful BBS. Seems that when the camera isn't rolling I get great shaves, turn it on and something is off.

I've not made any more progress on the honing front but my gear is still out so I can sneak away in the middle of the night and hone while others sleep. Honing can be quite relaxing OR it can be a bear, I like the relaxing ones.

To summarize my last 10 shaves or so...They all happened, some where excellent at least one was less than excelent. My beard keeps growing back so I guess I am destined to shave again.

I do plan to make some of my other creations available in the soap store, in fact I have one brush that will end up there (and possibly a couple more. I am capable by no means am I a master brush maker, I defer to Eric (@Smattayu) when it comes to making brushes.
My son is working on some 3-d printed lather bowls and soap bowls for the website but I can't say much about how they might look. I've asked him to 3-d print some old spice lids for my cup(s) but he hasn't created the template yet.
Say What?? And no pic?

Something new you're working on for the CBL Soap store?

Chris is camera shy!

For some reason my last post isn’t showing. Here’s some photos of my brushes and the creed bowl I finished with super glue.
