CBLindsay's brain droppings

Evening update...
so i did my evening lather with the LNHC Doc Holoday. I used the same technique (dry soap damp brush) and built the same sticky protolather then face lathered. The scent was dramatically improved over the first use, still a 3 out of 5 to my nose but it was clearly present and had multiple components popping. Now, almost an hour later I am able to detect a slight residual scent in the air (presumably from scent left on my skin). I have the sample of smoked black tea out for tomorrow’s shave and it has a slightly stronger scent of the puck too. I am guessing that lathering on the the surface exposed a fresh layer of scent, perhaps the surface had lost scent.

Love it when I can work a soap so the scent lingers a while after the shave. I’ve only been able to noticeably do it with higher tier soaps so far, like Jeeves of Hudson Street, Sudsy Soapery, and Grooming Department. Is it something to do with the scent oils they use?

If you want a scent that lingers grab some of the Proraso Single Edge... better pick a scent you like because it’s going to stick around for days. I had to use my brush cleaner on the silver tip, I used it Friday and was still smelling it in the bathroom Sunday. I recommend the cypress vetiver

Interesting on the soap...now I'm doubly looking forward to getting the soaps in! Derned OCONUS shipping. LOL

Straight shave #828 (Friday 8-24-18)

Haven’t shaved yet today (Saturday) but I thought I would document yesterday’s shave. I had meant to post yesterday but got busy in other areas.

The shave itself wasn’t particularly spectacular, the razor (J.A. Henckles) seemed to still underperform despite being touched up on the stones...or at least I THINK I touched this one up, I had it in the pile and it made its way to the ready rack. In any case it tugged a little so I gave it some balsa love after thensahve, maybe i’ll Giver a test today.

The start of the shave and reason I wanted to document it was the CBL Rosa Bourbonia, I finally managed to put together a small batch and I wanted to take it for a spin. This stuff is scented with pure Rosa Bourbonia absolute, an expensive and hard to source product but worth it in many ways. The scent is more than a simple rose scent, it has rosachouse bouquet with some fruity/honey and balsamic notes. If done correctly, you get a slight spiced rose scent. I absolutely loved the powerful scent that enveloped me throughout the shave...worth the wait.

All together the shave went well. I used a fourth pass to clean up what the razor should have gotten the first 3 and I applied a layer of lather on my face after the shave to enjoy the feel and scent a little longer. I am very pleased with this one. I finished with some Alpa ‘carnation’ and went about my day.

i have been enjoying my various CBL soaps but have to admit I grow board with the adventure. The lather is ALWAYS fantastic, the scents are a mixed bag (as I explore concentrations and mixes) and the post shave is always nice . But I crave a different lather now and then. I am sure those who have dozens of different brands in your den understand what I mean, scent aside, they have different types of lather that add variety to the game.

here are a few glamour shots
