Great shave Chris!

The worst part of a yard sale IMHO is getting ready for it! Good Luck!

straight shave #808

Been busy crafting more shave soap. It’s taken a couple weeks to get all the components together but yesterday I put the finishing touches to it. Now, a batch of tabacaveg is rotting in the closet. When it has reached peak perfection I will release it to the wild.

This morning I tested the tabacaveg while shaving with the feather SS. I seriously can’t complain, it was a good shave.

The yard sale seems to have stalled, most activity was Thursday and Friday. Had some big items taken off my hands but much remains. With the exception of a half dozen larger child oriented items destined for Moses House Ministries the big ol FREE sign has been put out.

mmmmmm Tabacaveg!! I'm in!

Yum! I’ve finished with tabacaveg the past 3 shaves. Are you using the aftershave to scent your soap, or do you create the scent yourself from scratch?

Or the wild will come to you...seriously...if Raccoons break into your house and trash it...you will know why.

Yeah...but I can!

i make the veg using actual Aftershave. I decant it into a vintage glass bottle for a year so it’s prop mellowed. I use quite a bit of it at different stages. For the Tabac I have a source that provides different frag oils to duplicate the better parts of Tabac.

I admire the fact that you have a rotating stock of The VEG!

First, congratulations on the 800 shaves Chris, and I hope the fires are staying clear of your area. I have not been to the lab to make soap in a month or more, then I made a 2 lb. batch of bath/shampoo. Still no shaving soap as I am consuming the remainder of my Beta 1.3. This was the least favorite of the Beta lots that I made. I have the next batch formulated and ready to go, I just have not had the gumption nor the time to get it done. Soon though.

Straight Shave #821

Had a pretty rough week as far as sleep (getting enough) goes so I called upon the General at one point during the week. I used the Injector once last week. Of the two I believe the injector still provides the better shave, or at least it does so with less work on my part.

On a slightly different note, I am happy to report I have been getting some incredible shaves with my straight razors. When a razor's edge is in good shape I am able to get a very comfortable, very efficient and very close shave in 3 simple passes ...when there is a trouble spot or the edge is off I have to work harder and often don't get the quality I would hope for.

As many of you have gathered, I am testing out my soap in different scents and recipe mods. This means I have neglected my "commercial soaps" as Walt would say. The upside is that i find my soaps very enjoyable (even when the scent isnt happening) the down side is I have a large stock pile of soap going unused. This week I managed to use a couple artisan soaps. Today I used Stubble Buster "resolute", I really dig this soap and the scent is very nice too. Ron (of Groomatorium fame) makes this brand and markets it as a more affordable option. To be honest, this formulation is better than his Chiseled face stuff. It is Primarily Tallow which makes it feel wonderful on the face, but it has some other stuff in it too. If you have never tried Stubble Buste I highly recommend you get some.

Work at the office has been a little busy but looks to be settling down. I had a technical issue with my email that forced me to change hosts. Despite being assured the change over would be seamless and require very little work o my part I was forced to rebuild my website. I was fortunate to have done the lions share while the original host still had the site showing otherwise I would have had to remember the content as well. I like the way the sight looks and feels now so I guess that is a bonus. Another bonus is that in switching hosts I was provided some additional website abilities ...abilities that might facilitate additional business ventures. The switchover allowed me (forced me) to learn a few coding and webby things that will improve the TSC forum experience as well.

On a more TSC focused note... Unlike Chad (and Dave when he is let out of master barber prison) I tend not to post as much. I spend plenty of time reading and listening but don't always feel like i have anything to add to the conversation. From the perspective of us owners this is a good thing, you members are providing content and keeping threads flowing without needing prompting from us. I won't promise to post/comment more, because I probably won't EVER be able to post as much as Chad but rest assured I am present.

I really have been wondering about the Stubble Buster soaps and aftershaves. And you are not the first person to say that they like it better than the Chiseled face brand. Next order I make from Ron I will have to add a soap or two to the cart. Worse comes to worse...I give it away right?

I guess that is good news with the website? Either way...if it gets you to refresh your website and if it opens other opportunities up...then it can't be all that bad.

I tried to learn some coding on my one once...but it didn't take. Unfortunately, I am the kind of guy who learns well in a classroom. But who has time for that anymore. I am good when I can do hands on stuff...but for something like coding...it's physical instruction for me.

I think you have the right attitude when it comes to posting in the Cadre. But I will offer a bit of advice. Don't become completely absent. I think that was one of the issues at the other place. We always heard about the site owners..and maybe once in a blue moon saw a post from one of them. But in the end...they could have been the spawn of Big Foot and a unicorn for all I know. And I was more involved over there than some. I guess I say all of this to really say...don't be completely absent. Just my two cents.

You won’t be disappointed with stubble buster. At worse you may find the scent too routine, They are all good scents but all of them are cologne like (if that makes sense). The performance is rock solid. Definitely add one to your next order.

Thanks for the Bigfoot and unicorn advice. I don’t think i’ll be THAT absent, just not “in yo face” present.

Nice post Chris, and Chad posts enough for both you and Dave, so I think you're safe with the amount of posts you contribute. LOL. Sorry to hear about the issues with the website, but from what it sounds like, things turned out for the better after the migration.

Good shaves Chris!

Bummer you had to change web servers, but sounds like it worked out for the best.

Straight Shave #824

WD 24mm silvertip
Proraso Single Edge "wood & spice"
W&B Celebrated Anglo Saxon
Avon Blend 7

Man on man have i been having some good shaves of late. Yesterday I shaved with the Weck and was amazed at how EASY it was to get a wicked close shave. Today I got an equally close shave. For those looking for the secret sauce I'll spill the beans here:
Prep- prep begins the night before and includes a good face lather followed by moisturizer. Before the shave a good face wash with light exfoliation (or face lather int he shower) does a great job of setting you up for success.
Sharp edge- what ever the tool a sharp edge is key. I think a SE blade offers a better result than a DE, if only because of the increased rigidity (and possibly the grind).
Stretching routine- It doesn't have to be an aggressive stretch but tight skin shaves better. however it is done, stretch. And when you find a stretching routine that works stick with it.

I think these steps are what leads to a great shave. Of course a good lather is necessary but that is a given.

Great stuff, CBL....well, maybe not the, "I tend not to post as much" part; or the TabacaVeg.
