Straight Shave #800
WD 24mm Silvertip
CBL Vetiver
"challenger" razor
Fine Fresh Vetiver
Encre Noire
It's been a little while since I posted here, thought I should document my 800th straight razor shave and share my thoughts.
The first thought, the one that was rolling around in my brain as I sat there on my throne contemplating the day ahead...800 is lot of days. I committed to learning to use the straight razor New Years 2015 so I have had more than 1200 opportunities to shave during this time period and have either not shaven or shaved with something other than a SR at least 400 of those days. That made me think, did I really use a DE or SE that often over the last 3 and a half years? I can't help but think my count got messed up somewhere along the line.
The second thought I had was how long 3 and a half years really is. Any time you keep count of a daily activity you are rewarded with knowledge of how many days have elapsed. Since I am feeling old now, I have a little sadness that those days are gone. ...Then I hopped in the shower and all was good.
The shave could have honestly been better. I didn't select any special razor but I now know I should have, the Challenger was not playing nice. I achieved a fine shave but the blade stuttered and stalled unless I made a slight slicing motion as I pulled the blade through the stroke. I was using a CBL soap I made special last night, a wonderful, almost nutty, Vetiver with a little bit of chill baked in. I love Vetiver but it can come in a pretty wide variety. I have tried in the past to make a vetiver scent only to smell more plastic than vetiver. I have smelled a number of potential scent oils and one or two EO's but none have given me the smokey/nutty scent i was searching for.
Needless to say, I finished off with all the wonderful Vetiverness I could round up.
*I made a silent bob film of my shave but am on the fence about posting it. I would have to narrate it for it to be of any real value anyway.
