CBLindsay's brain droppings

soon I expect. I have the scent, the containers and plenty of raw soap but we are still working out some logistical details.
I also have another soap in the works that uses a pretty expensive essential oil. Before I finish this one I want to be sure it’s right, I may only get one chance at it.
Actually that was partly tongue in cheek but I'm excited now !!

Great couple of shaves and read Chris!

Glad that the wife is feeling better and Happy Birthday Mrs. Lindsay!

New CBL soaps always have my attention!

All caught up. A lot of great shaves and stories. Quite a few companies have forgotten what customer service actually is. A few months ago, I called Comcast to inquire about Internet for the house. I did my research and knew what package I needed for our usage. I basically just wanted to ask how much the fees would be and how much it would go up to after the promotional period. The guy never answered any of my questions, just tried to keep upselling me. Well, instead I just hung up.

Happy belated birthday to the LOTH.

Happy belated birthday to your wife.

And good luck with the new soaps - I'm intrigued.

Juice it up? Is this like a Jamba Juice?

I think it is although I don't recall ever visiting a jamba juice. One thing is for sure, they are an expensive visit if you don't have a buy one get one coupon. They offer "raw" juice as well as a variety of smoothies made with fruit and either yogurt or sherbet.
As expensive as the different options are (they run a bit higher than Starbucks and other coffee shops) I don't think you could do it a lot cheaper at home. I borrowed my dads juicer thinking I would make my own tasty treats. I learned two things. First, it take a lot of fresh produce to make a glass of juice. Second, a big glass of vegi juice is just plain nasty. There is a reason these places juice some fresh stuff and mix it with apple juice. I ended up buying huge bags of feed carrots and a few beets, carrot beet juice is pretty good but if you drink too much of it you'll start to look like Donald Trump after a visit to the "Tanning" studio.

I had a juiceman juicer for a while and yes it's pricey. Carrot juice is sweet and needed for mixing most drinks.

Straight Shave #780

Smattayu tuxedo
CBL unscented batch#070418
Hibbard, Spencer & Bertlett CO "Rev-Noc"
CFG Sherlock
Zoologist "Civet"

Decide not to shave yesterday so I had another multi-day beard to shave off this morning. The HS&B Rev-Noc was well armed for today's assault and the soap provided an acceptable base to work from. One thing I have noticed with the muti-day beard shaves is that 3 passes gets er done, little to no touch-up needed.

The soap for today was a sample taken from yesterday's batch of soap. I left it unscented for now so I could test some properties. This recipe is substantially the same as my primary soap/croap recipe (aka beta 4.1) with a small change in the amounts of conditioning oils and an addition of one more component. My goal was to make a soap that had that silky, almost lotion like, feel that my wife says shower gel and commercial ladies shave cream has. I am not sure I have achieved the level of silky/lotion feel my wife was asking for but I do think I may have improved things a bit.

My choice of frags today seems to be working. At first I planned to pair Sherlock with the Zoologist Bat because the Bat has a wet earth note I thought would pair well. At the last minute I decided to use Civet because the scent profile sounded enjoyable. I have to say, Civet may be one to the best Zoologist scents I have tried. It definitely goes on with a better start than the others and seems to be drying down in an enjoyable way.

Good shave Sherlock!

Sounds like a small success with the new batch. I use my wife’s body lotion for the uber dry parts of my limbs. I have come to appreciate a good soap/lotion that absorbs and drys cleanly with no residue or oily-ness but still does it’s job. The ones that leave you feeling greasy just feel cheap.

I have a sample pack of the Zoologist frags...I guess I need to break them out!

You're lucky to be able to use the Zoologist scents. I bought the trial pack and got vetoed on every one of them.

Great stuff Chris! I've avoided the Zoologist stuff since both my wife and I aren't fans of the anamalic smells.

Zoologist is definitely an intense line of frags. I find most of them to have a similar base scent, more old lady than animal but unique either way. I can say with some certainty that i could not justify a full bottle of most of them but there are a few that I could go for a larger sample. Civet is pretty good all around, probably one I would enjoy the soap made by CFG.

That's the understatement of the day. I've tried two, "Panda", and the "Civet" (both samples courtesy of Dave). I like the Panda, but the Civet sort of hit or miss for me. But my goodness, just one Vasilli is almost too much - those are the most robust, strongest frags I've ever used.

Nice shave Chris. I have been avoiding the Zoologist line because I know the LOTH will veto immediately.

Straight Shave #782

WD 24mm silvertip
Mikes Natural "Orange & Peppercorn"
General (feather pro-guard x2)
Royall Rugby with a hint of Royall Musk

So, been a little sparse in my journaling of late ...and that probably won't improve for the foreseeable future. I will be going camping again this week (Wed-Sun) then leaving for a shorter trip before the month is over. I also find my time spread pretty thin these days.

I posted a thought in the General section about shaving every other day, I have had more missed shave days than usual so I thought I might post my thoughts on the subject. The punchline? I think I 'll stick to shaving every morning.

I realize now that I have too many straight razors that are "Meh". I tried a quick refresh/rehone on the Freeman frameback I used last week but it didn't turn out well. Admittedly, I rushed it but it boy would it have been nice to get the edge I wanted with less than 10 minute of effort. I really do need to start a honing journal so I can keep track of the state of each razor. ...and I think i may need to sell off some of my less exciting razors. *Note to potential buyers, If I am selling it I am not happy with it for some reason and don't want to put in the effort to improve it. The edge may be the issue or the general appearance.

Oh, the shave. I shaved and now I am BBS. Mikes is damn good stuff, I really should use it more than once a year.
