TSC Legacy Brush
Lisa's NHC (sample)
Feather SS /Feather proguardx2
Zoologist "Camel"

I have been a little off my game of late, with 5 days of no shave followed by an evening shave I got a bit lazy. On Saturday I used the General then skipped the sunday shave. My wife has the flu so I was unable to get my gear prepped last night which meant I needed to stick with the Feather. Fortunately Lisa's soap, the TSC legacy brush and the Feather SS make for a pretty brainless and amazing shave.

I can't say much about the Lisa's sample (she would have to kill me if i divulged too much) but I will reiterate what I said in Lisa's welcome thread ...She is a master of her craft.

The 0600 shave went well, a wonder 3 pass BBS with only one slight weeper. The alum proved the shave was a little closer than i first thought but the WH splash cooled it all down.

I didn't post my mail calls but over the last few weeks I acquired a few new frags. I now have some Tom Ford Grey Vetiver (OMG, this stuff is awesome), some Rose Absolute & Oud and an assortment of Zoologist testers. I have been carefully working my way through the Zoologist samples, you gotta me careful experimenting too much. Today was Camel, a somewhat exotic spicy scent with that classic Zoologist undertone.

I tried BAT on Friday, it was one of the mildest scent I have experienced from Zoologist. The predominant note is wet earth, with fruits being a secondary note. I actually thought this one was quite similar to Chiseled Face Sherlock.

HYRAK is on my list to try again when it isn't so hot. The escent is bold and animalistic and probably best when I am not running above 99 degrees.

on deck is MOTH, a scent that has a description I am eager to try.

UPDATE on the new car purchase/lease...
My lease was due to be up at the end of July but I was running a little high in the miles department so I decided to turn it in a little early. As I mentioned before, I don't like shopping for a vehicle (nor do I like shopping for a mattress or shoes) so i let my car lady do all the work. I have known the owner of this dealership for quite some time so I know they are going to treat me right, and treat me right they did. My car lady picked out an attractive silver /dark silver colored GMC Terrain with a few little upgrades to make me happy. Since she had done all the leg work the process was totally painless. I spent about an hour at the dealership, most of that time just getting caught up with her and the owner. 4 signatures and I was done.

Wow exciting mail call and a new. Sr to boot. Big congrats Chris!

Hope the missus gets better soon.

A new car is even better than new soap. But, of course new soap comes much more often. Sorry to hear your wife is sick. The flu ain't no joke.

Straight Shave #779

Rubberset 400 TGN Finest Badger
Eufros "Brisa De Oriente"
Freeman frameback
Myrsol F
Zoologist "Moth"

Not a terribly exciting shave but there were a few high points. One high point was the soap, eufros is a fun soap to use and always has an intense scent. The lather was abundant and provided sufficient slickness. The razor on the other hand, well, it wasn't up to snuff. Got the job done but was a little tuggy and felt off. I stuck with 3 passes but did a touch up with the General so I had a proper BBS.

On the homefront: Today is my wife's birthday. I ordered the cake (using her explicit directions) but she is doing all the remaining work (making dinner and decorating). I offered but she told me she has it all planned out.

Soap notes: I plan to make a batch or two of soap over the coming days. After much thought I came up with a tweak to the recipe that I believe will make the already good formula even better. I tested my theory on some soap I had made a month ago and my wife confirmed the post use feel is very good (like using lotion, not soap). The last "experimental" change (damascus) resulted in a very good soap but required a ton of work to achieve, making it unlikely I will ever make more of it.

Happy birthday to the missus!

Good luck with the new soap batch! Do you scent each batch?

It sucks the new batch required all that work. Sounds like it would be a good one.

Better watch out...the wife doing all the birthday work? I smell a trap! ?

Happy B-day to SWMBO for sure! Looking forward to seeing what the new batch of soap turns out to be!

That is kinda what I am worried about.

That depends on how big the batch is and what my intentions are. Generally speaking a smaller batch gets scented right away. More recently I have been focused on larger batches which are left unscented to age (aging my soaps makes them so much better). This will allow me to scent on demand down the road.

There are some soaps that MUST be scented as part of the creation or they don't turn out well. My Lilac Vegetal and Clubman soaps are two examples of such soaps. If I intend to make lilac vegetal soap I have to plan way ahead. not only do I need to allow the veg to mellow, I must wait until a full moon is near. After my last batch I was informed I must also wait until my wife has died and the world has come to an end. The EPA and AQMD have also placed restrictions on my making the veg. Interestingly the Department of Defense is asking that I come work for them, making the Veg soap in preparation for the next interstellar war. They believe my Veg soap is the only compound in the galaxy that can stop the invading alien hoards.

Its a heavy burden of responsibility, thank you for bearing it my friend.

Sorry about the unexciting shave but hope you all had a great evening. The soap making sounds interesting. When does that special "Shave Cadre Soap" become available ?

Well what did you gift the missus?
i got her a juice it up gift card. She likes those and a gift card makes them feel less expensive to her.

...oh and I got her an iPad and a new bedroom set! But she got those early out of necessity.

soon I expect. I have the scent, the containers and plenty of raw soap but we are still working out some logistical details.
I also have another soap in the works that uses a pretty expensive essential oil. Before I finish this one I want to be sure it’s right, I may only get one chance at it.
