CBLindsay's brain droppings

hmmm Senior Tickets, upset at neighbors? The Term "Get off my Lawnt" comes to mind Old/young man. We been playing the Senior card, since at 50 you are AARP qualified. So now me being soon to be 61 and the better have, oh lets say a bit older and "truly qualified" we have saved THOUSANDS. So the initial bruise to the Ego has been financially justified. Although I do not have gray hair, I find it fun now to be Reverse Carded when I ask for the discount, and it is nice to have the ego stroked when they say " you dont look over 40" It does get am a dirty look from the Avocado, of which I chuckle.....

As to the house with the noise, you will be in the land of Zona soon, where open spaces are truly that LOL
I have my dads old AARP card becasue he paid for a 3 year membership. We've used it for a few things but I am sure we can use it more. Funny thing about AARP is you can qualify for membership now at 18 but they say they are geared for those 50 or older. They got wise and opened up memebrship to prety much everyone so they can get more $.

I DO have grey hair and my wife is letting hers grow out so I am sure we look like a couple old folk wondering the streets. My wife is more of the "Get off my lawn" type than i am. Heck, she stands out in the front yard clapping her hands or banging bottles together to scare the crows away.

We should be gettign started on the build soon, very likely to move late this summer. I do look forward to the true open space and quiet. We will have neighbors on 3 sides but the property is bigger so they/we will be better spaced out. So far it is looking like it will be quiet. And as a bonus, a neighbor 2 or 3 lots over is a sherrif (brings his car home) so i doubt things will ever get too crazy.

I remember my first free drink at Wendy’s. Changed my life. I too was underage, but now I’m not. The next milestone is when out of the blue you suddenly get your eyebrows trimmed. 😜

More than once my spouse has assaulted my ears by creeping up to my unsuspecting side and cruelly yanking hairs from my ear. Trust being shattered, I am now on constant alert.

Time for a few more CBL brain droppings....

Been busy with all the 'great' things life has hurled my way. For the most part I have adopted a once or twice a week shave routine, but right now I am sporting a week and a half-ish beard. I trimmed/cleaned the edges so i don't look like a bum but looking in the mirror (I try to avoid doing that a whole lot these days) I am disappointed to see a VERY grey face staring back. The rapid growth of thick black hair from my ears and nose should have been enough of a hint but just in case I had any youthfull illusions the grey beard has dashed them. It's official, I'm Old!

I have kept up with my regular gym routine but have been forced to stand down until this weekend because the gym has shut down for a 10 day remodel. I don't enjoy change much so I plan to be prepared to complain endlessly when I return. On a positive note, this forced "recovery" period may prove beneficial as I devolop a dumbell based home routine. Overall, my weight loss has slowed greatly but continues to trend downward. I am now about 70 pounds lighter than my starting point and 15ish pounds from what i think would be a decent target weight. I am pleased with my muscular development and general appearance but I would like to increase my flexibility and functional strength a bit more.

My wife has REALLY picked up the packing game. In an effort to reduce the voluem of 'stuff' we will eventually be required to move, we have been selling things on market place and had a garage sale this last weekend. The garage sale was pretty much a wasted effort from a profit stand point but at least I didn't pay anyone to take my junk. The whole market place experience has been a real eye opener. To quote my wife "people suck". Just like my grey beard dashed all illusions of any remaining youth, the market place expereince has extinguished all my remaining faith in humanity as a whole. I have lost count of the number of people who are "on there way" to pickup the $10 metal rodent cage, I'm sure when they all arrive there will be quite a brawl as they all claim they were first. The scam attempts have been numerous as have the "will you deliver? ...it's just too far for me".

We have hit a few snags and surpises on the new home front but things are still moving in the right direction. The biggest surprise has been the appraisal. We own the land outright and the build costs seem reasonable but the pre-construction appraisal based on the plans came in VERY low. The appraised value for the finish project came in lower than the actual cost of construction, after figuring in the taxes etc its about $30k lower than the cost to build AND this includes the land I already paid cash for. Fortunately I was planning on bringing in a decent amount of cash anyway but I was hoping I would have more flexiblity.

On the family front, things have been good. My oldest daughter got a job with the county as a preschool teacher. The pay and beenfits are better than where she was before and she has a lot more stability.
A funny thing happed to my youngest daughter (16 yrs old). She drove to the gas station car wash and while she was drying and vacuuming her car a police cruiser pulled in behind her. The officers roled down the windows and stared at her with very serious but somewhat confused faces. She wasn't sure what was going on but they backed away and drove accross the street to the other gas station to cruise through the lot. As she was pulling away from the vacuums that same cruiser and a few others raced accross the street and back into the station she was at. The officers that had been staring her down quickly jumped out of their car and pointed their guns at a guy who had just pulled up to a gas pump. The guy had the same make and color car as my daughter. The police had been looking for the guy for some reason and seeing my daughter drying the same kind of car they had been looking for had them perplexed. As my daughter drove away several other cruisers arrived at the gas station and the ALL paused to look at her because her car fit the description they had been given. She was able to laugh about it but had they decided to do more than stare intently at her I am sure she would have soiled herself.

Well thats about all for now. Shave on you crazy diamonds
