CBLindsay's brain droppings

My MVM Beta 1.3 was harder than either the 1.0, 1.1 or 1.2, which all were similar and loaded the brush in a similar way. The 1.3 had the same characteristics of the other two with respect to lather, but was harder to load on the brush (required more water). 1.3 was my least favorite of the four batches I have made.

I love the scent of Brut. Broke it out the other day just to smells it's awesomeness.

I have been a little absent of late because my wife has me participating in the summer break activities she scheduled moths ago. Seems she was more excited about summer break than the kids. Yesterday I spent a portion of the day at LegoLand and the other portion on the road to and from...love southern california traffic.

Yesterday was a quick shave with the injector, good but not exceptional. Today was a bit improved but i fear the blade may need changing in the WECK. I did strop this one and i do think it mellowed it and extended the life a little. The soap today is one I made for Soul over at the other place, she wanted incense scented soap and this was one of the two i came up with. This one is primarily patchouli/NagChampa scented, its really groovy man. What impressed me was the volume and creaminess of the lather, I forget what i did to this soap but it turned out pretty good. Slick and conditioning. The shave was a pretty standard BBS, I expect the longevity will surpass yesterday's injector by a couple hours.

I mentioned the traffic right? I spent about 6- 6.5 hours on the road yesterday, much of that time crawling along. I am amazed at how people think that things will move faster as long as they are A holes to everyone else. Coming home we had the misfortune of being on the freeway(s) behind a pursuit in progress. The guy was headed in EXACTLY the same direction we were, so he left a mass of gridlock in his wake. To make matters even worse, the CHP decided to spike his tires at the worst possible place...a choke point at the bottom of the ONE and ONLY way home. When they spiked his tires he left the road (as planned) then promptly shot himself. BOY that made a mess of everything, they had to block the entire freeway for a time so they could "investigate". Imagine a line of vehicles stacked 5 lanes wide going UP a mountain pass as a crawl only to have to merge to 2 lanes at the bottom of the steepest part. ALL while the sun was setting and it was 94 degrees. Can't run the AC if the car is crawling up the pass..it will overheat.

Anyway, We've got a couple more week long camping trips planned so I may be in and out for a while longer.

Ugh, I haven’t been to SoCal in years, but the traffic I remember well!

Glad you were safe from all the travel excitement!

yes...I can't ever forget the 5xlanes of traffic in LA. It would be impressive if it weren't so inconvenient.

What can I say dude, "move to the country and never come out?" In the late 1980s I moved to South Florida for work. Worked in Miami and lived in Broward Co. The traffic was bad, and when I left there I said never again. But like you, from time to time I do have to travel to the city (mainly Metro DC) and I have no tolerance for it any more, not that I ever did have tolerance for it.

That was awful timing. Glad you eventually made it back. I am not sure how I would be able to handle traffic like that.

Friday! I've got another long day scheduled tomorrow, my son is graduating from CSUSB tomorrow at 8am then we head up to the mountains to pick up my daughter and probably do a little hiking. The traffic shouldn't be bad but the time on the road will still be long.

Today I shaved with one of those travel pods made by Pacific shave. The little pillow of soap dissolves in water and whipps up into a decent lather with a nice scent. I put the little pod in a cup and put enough water on it to start it dissolving, kinda like a bloom, then worked it with a damp board brush. With a little work it turns into a nice mug full of lather. I found it a little dry, probably should have added more water ...it can definitely take it. The shave was decent but lacked any of the added goodness you expect from a nice shave soap. ...it reminded me of a barbasol lather when you add a little water and work it with a brush ...better than average but not stellar. I guess I will do a video demo/review for those who might be considering some.

The razor was one I had honed on the coti's, at first it felt a little weak but it delivered in the end. That's kinda standard for a good Coti edge, feels like it isn't doing anything but rocks a nice BBS. I like the feel of a good sharp edge but really appreciate a good Coti edge.

Rolling with the Pods! Dont' give that to some of the younger generation, they might think they are edible. Have fun this weekend with the family, and congrats on the son's graduation!

Catching up again Chris!

OOOO a new CBL creation...color me interested!

Bummer about the traffic jam! Rush hour here in the Huntsville, AL area can be intense sometimes, but nothing like that!

Great reads and shaves!

Next up...CBL Sandalwood & Leather!

A guy could hope right?

i’ve got an interesting Cedar and Leather but no sandalwood. I think I have a sandalwood rose, if I recall correctly it comes off SUPER powdery. The cedar leather is quite nice...very reminiscent of the proraso single edge line.

I’m geared up to make a massive bucket full of soap over the next week or so, when I’m done i’ll Have about 10 gallons tucked away in the aging cellar. What happens next? ...we shall see.

I skipped yesterday's (father's day) shave so I used the shave set my son gave me last year for fathers day. I spent yesterday doing a few Honey-Do's and working on my truck. We are getting most of our new bedroom set today so I had to move everything out of the room so my wife could deep clean before the new stuff same. Turns out i had more under the bed than I thought, I may have a problem. I don't think there are enough drawers to store what I have and I will no longer have the open space under the bed. I need to start looking UP, maybe the shelves in the closet can be rearranged...

I usually like to use a larger, heavier, blade to remove a two day beard but the little shumate did well. The new soap is a vegan soap in with a proraso like consistency. It is scented with a black rose and "money", the scent is heavy on rose but has a nice complexity. Money and exotic rose made me think "aristocrate" so that's what I called it. The soap is wicked slick and leaves enough residual slickness to be dangerous.

On the Home front:

As I mentioned above, I did some work on the big truck this weekend in preparation for vacation season. I had a break job done about 4 or 5 years back, since then we have driven less than 25k miles. Early on the brakes seemed highly ineffective, so bad that we took it back to have the mechanic look at things. Two years ago I nearly lost all braking while descending the mountain we had been camping at...that was very fun! Anyway, I have been driving the truck more and decided to change out the brake pads and change the belts. Changing out the belts went well and didn't take too long but the brake job was another story. The truck is lifted and had large tires, having no other tools for the job I used a large socket wrench to remove the lugs...I thought this might kill me. Once the tires were removed everything else went quick. With less than 25k miles on the old pads they still looked pretty good but the back ones clearly had more wear and had evidence of overheating. Putting the tires back on was no easy task because I had to lift those heavy tires a few inches off the ground to line up with the lugs. I looked a lot like a bear wrestling the tire...and loosing.

Once I had everything back together I tested the brakes and still had a fairly squishy pedal, little had changed. GRR! So I set out to bleed the brake lines. Fortunately the body is lifted enough to allow me to tuck under the fenders and reach the bleeder tips so I didnt have to take those tires off again. Unfortunately It seems I may have a master cylinder issue because bleeding the lines did little to help. I may have to rethink taking the truck up that mountain this wekend...
