Yep, shocks me on the post shave feel as they excel for me but hey we all get differing experiences from things. Glad you got to try some more though and there ain't no debts between friends brother. You owe me nothing. Nice write up !

I know. It’s weird. But, when I opened the tubs and looked at all three soaps, the Oud Mineral looks more oily and has that like glistening look to it where as the other two not so much. They are all soft soaps that one can scoop out but, it looks as though the Oud Mineral has more of an oil look and it feels richer when I mush it in my hands. I don’t know, I can’t explain it. Madagascar & Tobacco for some reason dried my face up and Oud Mineral didn’t. I know, soap X-Files..... Where’s Scully & Mulder when you need them?!

I meant to focus more on the fact that you didn’t like the scent. :ROFLMAO:

You’re right though, I think the Oud Minerale does feel a good!

@GlazedBoker EXCELLENT reviews! And I am glad you liked the shaves! We all have different make up and chemistry to our skin and hair and soaps that react one way on a certain person will react a different way on another. That being said...I am shocked also that the post shave wasn't all that good for you. But like I said...to each his own. Maybe a different version of one of the soaps will be better for you. But thanks for the reviews!

+1 Couldn't agree with you more. Still, there are a couple of CBL soaps that I would still like to try. Especially the Rosa Bourbon if it becomes available again. If not, I'll probably pull the trigger on Black Rose Oud & Barbershop.

Have you tried Black Rose Oud Gus? Forget that. I'll get some other samples together as I was already thinking that. BRO is a sample I just tried and plenty there for a couple more shaves. They'll be out bound shortly ;)

Gus, you should try Roasted Oatmeal Stout and Dragon’s Blood. Those two have a different formula and have better post shave feel. The DB is my best soap from any maker.

Wow Gus, Dave has you covered. The oatmeal stout is a great scent. I'm curious what you will think of the rest.

CBL provided me, most graciously I might add, with a large sample of their Vetiver soap as I love a good vetiver. The following is my subjective opinion.

It is a very soft soap. I wish he would harden it up a little which I understand is quite easy to do. It lathered superbly and quite easily using my YaQi Cashmere synthetic brush. I used an English "ball end" Tech from the 50's (my daily razor) and a new Gillette Thai Super Thin for the shave which was stellar. Excellent glide & cushion. Post shave is irrelevant to me as I wash with a salicylic/glycolic acid face wash after shaving. Now for the bad part: the scent is feeble at best. Extremely weak and smelled like Play-Doh. Now before anyone gets agitated I feel like this soap is mostly excellent. It just needs hardened up a bit and a drastic scent overhaul which is quite easy I believe. As a benchmark my two favorite vetiver soaps are Shannon's Soaps Haymarket Vetiver and Dec. Grooming Dirtyver of which the latter was seasonal and no more for now. If the co. can do this then they will be in the Big League.

Just my 2 cents and worth what you were charged.

Nothing wrong with an honest and balanced opinion. I'm a scent more forward person too. Thanks for the write up.

Nice report @Bogeyman!

I wonder if the play-doh scent you’re smelling is the wagyu base. The base is quite a dominant undertone in some of his soaps. I happen to enjoy it (mostly because it doesn’t smell like play-doh to me) fortunately; but I can see it being perceived as that kind of scent.

I do find some of the CBL soaps to be under scented. The base scent seems to overpower the actual scent components, and as such I feel some of them smell very similar, when the probably shouldn’t.

But overall, most of the CBL soaps are well scented and are among my favorites.

Also, in regards to being soft. Yes, some of his soaps are too soft for my liking. But in every instance, I just leave the kid off for a day or two and it dries up to the perfect consistency for me.
