Brush: Shavemac 2 Band Silvertip Ebonite
Soap: CBL Tonsorial Fresh Lime 3017 (10)
Aftershave 1: Humphrey's Alcoholado Maravilla
Aftershave 2: Brut
Fragrance: Penhaligon's Bayolea
Well today I have a razor to "test/try" from @Dragonsbeard The venerated Vintage Gibbs. He prepped a blade for me since modern blades need to be modified to fit and then need to meticulously aligned. He pre-installed a GSB and included a modified Polsilver for me. I probably won't change the blade as I get nervous when using someone else's VERY hard to find and premium priced when you do razors. 1st thing I notice is the blade is not held very close to the edge and we all know how I love blade chattering razors.................NOT. I set the dial selector to "N" which appears to be a 3 setting and middle of the road. The shave was smooth and while some chatter, not near what I got from the Variant and Progress. I could live with this. After the 1st pass was thinking, This is smooth but it doesn't feel like it's removing enough whiskers. I fought the urge to dial it up and left it on 3. Pass 2 and okay we are getting towards where I expect to be after passes as far as efficiency now. Pass 3, still going smooth and enjoyable. Although the handle is a little short for me it is comfortable. My face is like glass and while I may try a higher setting, I'm pretty sure this is my sweet spot for it.
Final Thoughts: AMAZING razor !! Will I buy one? Well, I am in a restraint at the moment. I won't be hunting one and wouldn't pay the high premium I've seen them demand but would like to acquire one at some point. The right deal could "Officially" knock me out of the "S" thing but I would resume restraint after it's purchase. Looking forward to tomorrow's shave.
