Bourbon Country Shave Journal - Dave in KY

Ugg, hate tests...especially when you can’t study for them, so stressful.
Seriously, I hope they quickly narrow down what ails you.

I’ve not tried any soaps from the holy black but I do have some of their pomade, decent stuff.

Thanks for the Comments Guys.

Razor: Goodwill #164
Blade: Voskhod (2)
Soap: Stirling Orange Chill
Brush: Razorock 400 Synthetic Noir
Aftershave 1:Thayers Lavender
Aftershave 2: Skin Bracer

I need to pay more attention when I use these vintage compared to the newly acquired modern razors but still love using history. I was always intrigued with the look of these different Goodwill models and was real happy when I got this one in particular because of the detail it's cap. A not slow, but slower shave but smooth and no weepers or irritation so a success. Man I don't reach for the Skin Bracer enough. Love the powdery finish. Happy Shaves to all !! #3 in the books..................ur um, I mean on the web

I also love the Delta Echo finishes. One day I’ll decide on something to send in for plating. My wife won’t be happy about that one. I can hear it now. “Just for the colours??”

With the Timeless, I worry about having to pick a gap wothout really knowing what would be best for me.

Great shave Dave!

I don't think I've seen a Skin Bracer bottle like that before, nice find!

Great shave. Love those particular style Goodwills!
Thanks I got it before I realized how hard the #164 is to find. At least that's what I've been told.

With regard to Timeless gaps I held off for awhile because of that and not wanting to or being able to afford to buy the wrong one and not be happy. Reading posts of .95 as aggressive and then others saying it's mild. Then throw in the difference of the plates and caps which affect the shave type (open comb, scalloped, straight bar) I like a mild but efficient shave and had decided to narrow down to a .68 gap but open comb with a scalloped cap to add efficiency. Low and behold I scored one on another forum and it should arrive Thursday. Will be showing up in a SOTD soon. Hopefully I made the right decision for me.

Thanks ! For those that have commented on it. Got on the bay when I saw one and started hunting it. They came in right and left hand and used to pop up fairly frequent. They may have changed as I haven't searched it in quite some time.

Definitely an interesting Skin Bracer bottle - nice score! And it's great juice, too!

Nice shave. I am glad that your treadmill test went well. The Delta Echo razor looks great.
Welcome aboard! And some nice photos, too.
Great posts. Welcome to the journals.
Very nice read.

Thanks everyone for the nice comments. Really enjoying myself here !!

Yesterdays Shave
Razor: Franken Razor Yaqi Cap/Pearl Baseplate/Facon SS Handle - Karve "D" PLate
Blade: Voskhod (3)
Brush: Stirling 2 Band Synthetic
Soap: Mickey Lee Soapworks - Drunken Goat
Aftershave: Humphreys Witch Hazeland Proraso Green

Started shave with this combo some love and felt immediately this was a dangerous combo at least for me. Still carefully went thru with 2 passes at which point I said, "NO WAY" and switched blade to finish with my 3rd pass in the Karve plate "D" razor. Finished with a nice smooth shave and no bloodshed but it could have been different had I finished with the franken razor. That one will probably go soon. Late getting this up. I appreciate all those reading my journal, even if I fail to respond. I'm trying but wish there was a function that alerted you above when someone quotes you or posts in a thread you choose. I prefer an alert above verses getting an email. It may be possible and I haven't figured it out yet or maybe it's in the works. I know it takes a lot to get things all worked out and appreciate this place to come and chill with others. Thanks to our owners for tackling this project !! Everyone have a great day!
Got a new razor I've wanted and lusted for , for quite awhile and will shave with later today and post when I get the time.

Well Dave...that is quite the razor! Sounds like you need to be careful. I know the other Dave, Chris, and Chad are working on a lot of things and it may take some time, but I know they have expressed interest in the alerts with the developers.

Right now it seems that emails are the only options.

That new razor wouldn't happen to be a Timeless, would it?
