"Use up my yucky stuff" was my plan until @CBLindsay sent me some beta tonsorial to eval. Now my soap world is all out of kilter and it seems that I now have a briefcase of "yucky stuff." Well, okay, it's not yucky but it's not CBL either 🙈

The CBL I have used is outstanding.

AoS Lavender/t mmmmmm

Yup. Amazing stuff.

I would say the big wrench in your plan might be the PDP, that stuff indestructible and might last 3 years on its own. I would have thought the DR Harris would last forever too but I found that to go faster than I first thought once I got into and really loaded it. I also found it to partner well with the vintage soaps that have no scent and sometimes lack a little (Wrisley?). Most of your soaps are fairly long lasting soaps, good luck with that.

Getting them when I did seemed like a good idea at the time. Of course I had been 3017ing for 4 years at that point so I couldn’t claim ignorance.

Oh woe is me. I am consigned to outstanding shaves day In and day out for a decade. 😢

"Woe is me" 🤣

1st world problems. 💃🕺

Ogallala Bay Rum is now finished. I got some excellent lathers out of it, and the best performance was achieved with synthetic brushes, especially the Chubby 2. The soap is squarely in the ** (out of ***) category. There are many better and many worse, so if you like Bay Rum, give this one a try. It's worth it just for the scent.

SCS Refined is on the clock starting tomorrow. I pulled the B&B Essential Boar brush out of the cabinet, and will be using it for at least the start of my run with the soap.

I was trying to figure out what cuss word only had 2 letters for a minute...then I figured out what you meant. :ROFLMAO:

Congrats on slaying this 3017 giant!

I must confess that I am happy to have used a non-triple milled soap this time around. Those buggers take forever to kill. When I broke through the bottom last week, I wasn't expecting it at all. The SCS Refined is also a soft soap, and I expect that one to be finished by the beginning of February, if past experience with SCS soaps is any guide. This morning's later with Refined was very good. The boar got off the bench and did a fine job whipping up a good lather.

I just retired a brush from that other place. It's in a drawer and it's going to stay there a good long while. It had served me well for the past 2-3 years, but an upgrade was in order.

Triple milled soaps are a great value, but sometimes I just want to burn through a couple of tubs to reduce my stock.

Six shaves in with SCS Refined. I had hoped to load less this time around in hopes of getting better longevity from the cake of soap. Unfortunately, as good as SCS soaps were, they do require a fairly heavy hand to get quality multiple passes. For me, it's a 30-40 second loading, and the resulting lather is rich, slick and creamy. You can tell there are no odd detergents in them because they just don't foam up like some soaps do. With past experience as a guide, I'll likely make it to the New Year, but not much longer than that. I hope I'm wrong and make it farther, but I'm going to be realistic.

Wow...30-40 seconds is a pretty long load! Except for some ultra hard glycerin based soaps, I don’t think I’ve loaded a soap longer than 15 seconds or so, most being 5-10 and me walking away with enough soap for 4 passes.

I probably could and should load longer a bit more often and have tried in the past, I just usually slip back to shorter times after a little bit. Not sure why.

Most people do just as you do. They load enough to get a decent lather and stop.
3017ers often go in for "hate loading" in order to kill the soap just a little bit faster and get a slightly better lather. I tend to do this more with harder soaps than with soft artisan soaps. The softer soaps are easier to load heavily.

I’ve been fiddling with the loading a bit and am now getting a very nice lather from 20 seconds loading the SCS Refined. Again, lather is very rich and slick, and you really burn through this soap pretty quickly. I’m expecting it to be finished by year end (sadly).

I've never timed my loads, but I probably tend to go longer rather than shorter. I just do it till I get enough of the lather I need.
