Gillette Flair tip / Personna
Hot lather machine lather
Holy Black aftershave

Somewhat of a unique shave today, I had to be in the shop by 6 AM so it was up dressed drive to the shop. I was not gonna shave, but how can I show my customers that I’m a hobo

so, I use the Gillette flare tip that I keep in the shop for those people that I have to shave with Parkinson’s or any other type of issues with a straight razor. It has a brand new persona blade in it and for the lather, I decided to use the lather machine, hot lather made by Campbell’s. It’s what I use for doing the lineups around the ear, the sideburns and the back of the neck and every once in a while if somebody wants a quick shave, it’s wonderful lovely hot lather that’s fun to shave with.

Finished off with some Quinn‘s lavender witch hazel and another aftershave that I keep at the shop which is the holy black original aftershave tonic, which is much like old spice, but with a little bit of gunpowder in it

Little bit of talc to finish it off and ready for my first customer

Have a great Wednesday folks

Be honest....when you're bored, you make lather snow men and throw them at the window?

Pretty good shave today with the Gillette, black beauty and the 1805. Typical of a lot of British hard soaps. The lather is less than stellar, especially if you had too much water which I did today, but it’s still provided a nice slick shave.

Finished off with the 1805 aftershave and ready for another day at the shop

Enjoy your day

New software set up today. As always to remove any type of variable, I always use the vector with new soaps and aftershaves because it gives me a consistent perfect shave.

In my continuing effort to find a replacement for Penhaligon‘s English fern. The MDC and the castle Forbes 1445 seem to fit the bill.

As crazy as it sounds, this is the very first time that I have tried MDC and I now know why number one Wyatt so costly into why has beloved status. It lathered very easy with a somewhat dry, badger brush and adding water slowly made the ladder perfect as far as the fragrance the replacement to English fern is very encouraging at this point. It is also obvious why MDC is so copied by so very many artisan soap makers being a typical French hard milled soap I imagine this will last forever

I have also been wanting to try Castle Forbes for quite some time. This one was billed as a Scottish green Fernie and grassy fragrance note although it is not English fern it is very close to me if English fern and royal Fougere had a love child 1445 would be it

Not quite as creamy and smooth as English fern, but something that could definitely be a replacement

Great three pass DSBBS shave today and this set up is very very nice. I’ll be shaving with it for the next few days and then I’ll review in my video on Sunday.

Have a great day folks

Another great day and another shave for day number two with the MDC and slowly, but surely I think this will be a great replacement for an Penhaligon’s English Fern

The soap itself request using a badger brush, but I decided to use a synthetic and wow did the lather just explode

Other Knapp pretty much the same shave as yesterday

Enjoy your Saturday folks

Late shave, just before Showtime, and Later entry. Still evaluatiing MdC Fougere and the 1445 from Castle Forbes, as a true replacement for English Fern.. More usage is leaning that way. This is just a great combo. More deets in the video

Enjoy and Nytol

Since yesterday was an early evening shave, a RARE 2-pass shave today, as most of the shave was product review for the 1445 and the MdC. Any many are astonished with my warehouses of soap, that I had never tried MdC in any form. Boy was that a mistake. Many thought it was the price tag at roughly 75.00, however cost is not an issue for me if I like the product, and this one is worth every penny! Especially if you consider and amortize the cost per shave. Being a Hard milled french, and in comparison to others of like, kind and quality, it will certainly last, and brings in it line with other soaps.
.
The Video goes into the complete review of both products, and the 2 pass shave was almost DSBBS. purchased from our own retailer @Bullgoose as he stocks a complete line of MdC and Castle Forbes. Although not an inexpensive set up, the joy it brings to the shave is MORE that enough for it to pay for itself, and is truly TOP TIER.

Did and will it replace English Fern? Well, in one case YES, as EF is going the way of the Dodo. In another way, will. it give the feeling the EF gave me as the GRAIL of set ups. In short, YES! It is NOT EF, but will do very nicely as a replacement. Much more so, and more like EF that Royal Fougere, or Felce Aromatica.

See the Vid for Deets

Have a nice Tueasday

I remember my first experience with MdC. I was early in the game and the whole world seemed to rave about how MdC is THE grail soap (debatable today but back then maybe it was true...) The only place I could find to buy it was @Bullgoose and one other place near him that has since closed its doors. The price back then was around $60 and the soap came in a GLASS tub. I pulled the trigger on a new tub and eventually found a few other tubs being sold on ebay or BST that I also picked up. I won't even try to give a review other than to say the stuff lathers itself if you get a damp brush anywhere near the same room as an open container. Yes, it's a pricy purchase but it is a great value too. Scentwise I like the fougere and lavender, the rose and vetiver are ok but seem out of place somehow.

Great review @BarberDave . One of my favorite soaps. All the scents are great, but the Agrumes and Original (lavender, mint & rosemary) are (along with Fougère) the best IMO. Vetyver smells closer to classic Brut to my nose (not that that's bad thing) and Rose is a little light strength-wise.

The lather quality with all is superb though.

Ferrari Noble fig

Good morning everybody I’m channeling @MarkB
Today as the shave is a nod to the greatest
band that’s ever lived. The song is actually chosen for @heysi as this is a song I play when he states that Pink Floyd is not best band ever as a warning to him LOL

As for the shave, Ariana and Evans is known for its very unique sense and this one is just perfect funky, and it will remind certain folks of a certain age of the old head, shops or smoke shops that we used to go into. With all the fragrances to go along with it.

Also, people of a certain age were remember sitting in a paneled room, listening to Pink Floyd, and enjoying the ganja

It’s very interesting, also for those of a certain age when we see that widely that cannabis is legal now when we look at it from the sources that we used to have to get it from this is akin to us landing on Saturn and we’re just blown away that you can just walk into any store and get whatever you want

Anyway, the shave with the purple neon brush and straight razor was fantastic and then again the fragrance from the soap and the aftershave is wonderful and believe it or not the Noble fig works exactly as a perfect pair for this set up

Have a great day folks

The best band ever is The Beatles. That fact is undisputable. If you want to like any other band....that's perfectly fine....but don't argue with facts.

The beatles are good if you want pop rock. Not to mention both Lennon and Paul used Pink Floyd for huge Inspiration for Yellow Submarine IMHO their best work.
