Arran Aromatics Lochranza Shave Soap
Arran Aromatics Lochranza Aftershave Balm
Van Cleef & Arpels TSAR EdP

1st look and shave with the Arran products. MY love of Scotch, Scotland, and the family history of my Fathers side, ( Clan Mclaughlin ) made me want to search out a Scottish shaving product, and Boom! From the Isle of Arran comes Arran Aromatics. This one is Lochranza, with claims Patchouli and Anise, however those are only a tiny sniff of what is really going on here. I am not traditionally a fan of patchouli, but this is done in a way that is almost imperceptible, and presents more as smoky or peaty, along with some oak moss. Top is a citrus with a "sea" aspect, ad Lochranza is on the northern coast of Arran, then it becomes woody, smoky and a bit sweet. Vetiver comes through pretty strong as well. Wonderful. The soap is a hard triple milled soap and non-tallow but lathers easy and quick very much in consistency and later to Floris. The most unique aspect is the container. It is a bowl that is cast out of a VERY heavy resin, but made to look like rock. Fashioned after the large pebbles at the shores of Whitting Bay, and all over Arran at the coast, it is a beast, at and least 2 lbs. Has the feel of granite, and looks likes you would build a castle out of them.

The 1st shave was lovely with 3 passes with really the only razor that would match... "The Viking". Followed by a nice, very light balm. the SOS on these was at least a 3.5-4 throughout. As a 1st look I paused the Thayers today to give the Arran center stage, and as a 1st look and try, very impressed. Finished with Talc and TSAR, although I did discover that Arran does make a EdT that can be sourced here in the US, so off to the shopping cart I go. I do have a fragrance called "Malt", as in single malt coming soon. The 2nd offering "Macherie" will be manana.

(Video will post today)

KONA and OTHER STUFF:

Kona was up early and in point today, bark, bark, bark, run, run, run. I wanted to sleep in for "my Saturday", but El Doggo decided to punch me in the head at 0530, So........ Brewed a pot of Pervuvian, kicked him out and was up for the day... OH well. Agenda today is Scotch, Cigars, and helping the boss build a greenhouse.

Tedalus "The Wraith" / Feather Pro-guard
Sorrentino "Pillars of Creation / AMACK 2-band Synth
Arran Aromatics Machrie Shave Soap
Arran Aromatics Machrie Aftershave Balm

Penhaligon's Blasted Heath EdP

1st look and shave of another Arran Aromatics offering. This time Machrie. Located on the West Coast of the Isle of Arran, it is about 28 miles from the island of Islay. It is also known for its driftwood. In fact, the original name of the fragrance was indeed driftwood @NurseDave . Another complex scent profile with Sea Salt, wet briny wood tones, oakmoss, clary sage, and rockrose which gives it just a small floral undertone, but comes across as more of a citrus. A very clean, cold, and very woody aquatic.

The lather is as expected, using Lochranza's shave as a comparison, SOS is about the same and great face feel for "The Wraith" to skate around on. This razor continues to impress, and further is grabbing gears and quickly speeding away from any of the Feather DX or SS line. Which heretofore has been the gold standard in Removable Blade Straight Razors. A great 3- pass DSBBS shave. Along with the Alum, I added back in the Lemon Thayers to compliment the Aftershave Balm. Today, used much less and was rewarded, as the balm is very nice, matches the soap perfectly and has great face feell.

Finished off with Penhaligon's Blasted Heath EdP. This is a hard one to match, but, finally a soap and after shave made for this fragrance bomb. Sea Salt, Oceanic, ozone, Clary sage, kelp, and wood. A perfect match. Bvlgari Aqva would be another great match for this soap. As mentioned in yesterday's video I have the EdT's for both Lochranza and Machrie on the way, so poor Blasted Heath will need to find another match somewhere, LOL. Overall 1st impressions of both Arran products are fantastic.

KONA FILES: Yet again, on my 2nd Saturday of the week, and errand day, Kona decided his new way of not waiting for me to get his lazy butt up, is to jump onto the bed, with maximum hang time, use Sharon as a "4-paw drive" testing area on terrain, thus creating a plethora of adjectives, and name calling pointed at me and El Doggo, and then punching me in the head, as a reminder he need to do "his thing". Today he added the CPR move he has apparently learned. So punch, chest compressions, punch and then have Ruger the cat walk on your face! Ya ok I am up, really 0530 again. Gotta love how on my days off he is ready to go, but during my workweek, not so much.

today he gets to go to the bank, and get his treats and fawning from the Tellers, and tomorrow he goes to the groomer. Ahh the life of dogs, and the human attendants who serve them. Would not have it any other way.

Another missed opportunity to use these items while drinking Arran scotch. <<sigh>>
As per norms no one here in Podunk Tucson of over 2 million people carry it, but if you want tequila or Mezcal, it is everywhere! Grrr. I guess Reserve Bar will be getting a few hits, LOL

Eh, I wasn't overall impressed enough to pay for shipping for it. I can add it to the haul of little bottles I'll bring to Vegas. I'm thinking I need to find some 200ml flask looking glass bottles.

Semogue 620 / Boar
A&E Kaizen Shave Soap / Aftershave
Nivea 2 in 1
Proraso Alum / Thayers Lemon / Talc

Quick DE shave today with the Red Tip. Kaizen always provides a nice shave. Errand day and other items combined for my "Sunday", as yesterday, being a holiday, put a damper on that. Nice BBS shave today, although the new Nacet blade was a bit on the rough side.

KONA FILES: He gets to double dip today, bank and groomer, he is such a diva

Nice “Monday” shave for me. New blade made for a super smooth shave. The Greenfresh is my favorite of the Ethos line, and with the aftershave and all the shared notes of cucumber, spearmint, and lemongrass, the Floris just sealed the deal. DSBBS all the way.

KONA FILES:
0500 punch in head
0505 out the door
0600 back in the house
0601 treats
0630 tail wag, goodbyes, and into the warm bed with mommy and the cats

Dawn patrol shave this morning. Opted for the “Somnos” today and the Ethos homage to Creed Aventus. While Fine’s version is the closest IMHO, Frank’s blend is also very nice and a bit more pineapple forward. 3-passes today and a nice DSBBS shave .

KONA FILES:
Sitting at 32 degrees at 0430, “El Doggo” opted to brave the cold, after I showered and got ready to shave I found him under the pillows on the patio couch. A dirty look as he passed me and headed to the bed. His mind changed pretty quick as I prepared my shake and lunch. Of course, I folded like a cheap tent and gave him and “the eyes” a few treats, and he was nice enough to escort me to the door with a wag and a handshake
