fantastic shave. Noble Otter is a great soap base. The scent is “meh” for me.... not bad, not great. Will plan to replace with a different scent when this runs out. The Turkish colonya is a great, lemon scent and super cheap for that big ol’ jug. I remember reading a thread posted on these by @GearNoir as well as reading this particular scent reviewed by a favorite fragrance blogger of mine, whom shall remain nameless...

Took a little break from the forum and the journal in particular.....
So, got a few new soaps and matching splashes:

performance is stellar, as well as the scents. Stirling refill sample pucks were my problem all these years

Also picked up a new razor courtesy of recommendation from @Dave in KY (who seems to have left? That’s a bummer )
Anyway, it’s a Henson aluminum razor and it’s nearly PERFECT. Actually, it is perfect for MY neck, so kudos to Henson’s.
The only razor I have used in the past 3 weeks or so, except for 2 nights with a Merkur travel razor while camping...


While camping in Frankenmuth, MI, I checked out a favorite cosmetic “grey market” store At the big outlet mall in Birch Run, MI. they carry frags by The parent company that owns Ralph Lauren, YSL, Armani, Etc. (L’oreal I think?) I snagged this discontinued gem:

basically La Nuit De L’Homme but smoother, some vanilla, a little less overall generic spice, and better staying power. Did I mention it only set me back $30 brand new in box? Score
Also, the wife I have both aged another year and are both officially closer to 40 than 30 my oldest son is now 6 is well

Had a new 2 stage furnace installed today as well, so bring on the frigid winter temps. I’ll try to get back in the swing of shave of the day format tomorrow and keep it up for at least a week. Thanks for reading Cadre.

Friday night shave. The Henson razor is my go to at this point. Tried my Karve B plate Wednesday and Thursday and just couldn’t use it for a 3rd in a row. I’ll probably be selling most of the few razors I have as they just can’t do what the Henson does for me (YMMV).

hey guys of the Cadre, do you buy your wife or girlfriend fragrances? I’ve bought a few for my wife over the past few years and most she likes. She is now requesting a “woody, whimsical, fall/winter” scent. Researching Fragrantica, there does not seem to be a ton of woody female fragrances. I don’t really get out to try testers at the stores, not even sure they are doing that currently? I have 8 samples coming my way for her to test. I like to keep it at designer frags that are easy to obtain and usually less than $100. Just wondering what your gals like in the colder months. Thanks, have a great day Cadre.

Great question...hmm. I’m kinda at a loss there for frags. My missus likes some wood type frags on me but does not like them for herself right now. Interested to see if anyone has an idea!

There doesn’t seem be straight up woody female scents. So ordered some oriental and gourmand type scents along with others I “think” she might like. I think i’ll give mini, 1 or 2 sentence reviews of them here as it’s kind of interesting smelling female frags Might help some guys out here, so I would be happy to help.

My wife is mid 30’s, doesn’t like old lady scents, doesn’t like clubbin’ cotton candy scents either. The opium was the “wild card” since it’s by far the oldest, but her favorite is Black Opium, which is a modern take on Opium I gather. I like oldies like Azzaro pour Homme, Ralph Lauren Polo, so thought I’d try my luck at her liking an oldie as well. I recently fell for A*Men so thought Angel might be a good try. I like YSL and Dior frags as my favorite designer brands so I gravitate toward them.

I was thinking maybe something lightly Oud for some warm depth. Looks like you got a pretty good smattering anyway! Though I’m not sure if my wife would be happy telling folks she was wearing Alien

Funny you mention oud... I tried Ferrari oud essence, or something like that, last fall. I liked it but realized fast that it was a “me” scent only. My wife HATED the incense vibe going on so, oud, is a no g”oud.”
I agree about the name “Alien.” However, still leaps and bounds better than Tom Ford’s “genius“ idea of naming one of his recent frags after a blatant, vulgar obscenity....

The wife was thumbing through phone pics last night, saw my SOTD, laughed hysterically at the concept, then proceeded to doctor it up with filters.... I give it an A - .... she took out some of the vibrant colors so had to knock it down a peg or two

Glad to see someone else who uses it as the “go to” for now at least. It ... just... works

The outlaws are out of town so took the day off work to watch the boys while wife is at work. Puppy to the vet for a vaccine or two, home school for the boys, and trying to keep the house in decent shape....way tougher day than if I were at work

Thanks - not going to lie, waiting in the vet parking lot was almost a “lost it” moment.... I thought I should DL at least one show for the iPad off of Disney+ or Netflix, but my wife insisted we just take books instead.... somehow, I have part of a hot wheel track set hidden away in the bowels of the backseat that only the boys know about and needless today, if I got hit in the head with a hot wheel one more time ...
