Anything that can go wrong... Will happen while I'm Shaving

One more thought that has been bugging me... Maybe someone can explain this or provide some insight??

I'll shave, wtg, xtg, atg. Then I'll do touch ups in whatever direction needed to try to clear the remaining hairs. What I almost always find is no matter how many clean up passes I do, there remains some hairs. What I end up having to do is comeback, maybe 30-60 minutes later and (with just water) carefully shave this last bit off.

It's like the hair went into hiding, and I need to wait for it to think all is clear and come back into view. Kinda gets annoying playing whack-a-mole with my facial hair. [emoji38]

I THINK (don't quote me) razors like the Babysmooth or Merkur 45, with their excessive exposure, work well to get them on the first shot. However, they're also a bit more agressive than I like.

Anyone else experience this? Any ideas...? Thanks!

I sometimes miss small patches as well, and they tend to be consistently in the same places. My areas are on the sides of my neck, near my ears. I take extra care to those areas with each pass and I usually get those whiskers to an acceptable closeness. YMMV.

I prefer aggressive razors for this reason. I feel that my face tolerates more blade exposure reasonably well, so it works for me. Mild razors are super comfortable, but miss quite a bit for me, even atg.

Same here. When I don't check carefully enough. Or don't worry about the super smooth BBS. I've actually found with a super slick soap, I can slide right over a little bit that should be removed when I'm checking with my fingers. When I really want close I use a bit of pressure when hunting down stray hairs with my fingers after the last pass.

Have you happened to have tried the 6S or 6C?
I had a 6s, but sold it. It was good, not great. Got rid of the 6c when I got the 6s. For me, the 6c was much better. A little less weight, perhaps also the polished design, lended to comfort? It's been a while, but I don't know that the 6c would be any better for me than the Gamechanger. I actually stopped using the 6c when I got the Karve... So I was looking for a better fit then too.

Now I'm pondering a MJ-90A again. Lol. Still, If the list (above) can be believed, the 90A would be in-between the 68 and 84. That's the razor type I'm thinking I need... A bit more forgiving than the 84, but not to the point of the 68. Keep in mind the 84 is good, but I think it is easier for me to get irritation from it with my sensitive skin.

Eeh, I'll figure it out eventually. I did warn you folks that you'd regret me starting this thread. Ready to share that shave logging app yet? [emoji2957][emoji1787][emoji38]

Oh it's not shaving specific. I use Diaro. I have tags for each entry for the year/razor/blade used. Then just copy and paste my journal entry into it. Then when I'm using a razor I haven't used for a while I look it up by tag on the app and can see how many uses are on the blade from my entry.

Doug:
not knowing your routine completely a couple of observations on both your irritation points and resistant stubble.
* Try cold or cool water shaving
* Only use soap and water for pre shave ( warm or hot showered facial lather with mild soap preferably with a tea tree component
* Have you mapped your beard growth? What you think is WTG, ATG, XTG may not be those dependent on your facial growth
* once completed try doing WTG, ATG, then XTG. Since your facial hair may have whirls or odd growth this change- up in pass angle may help, as there is no :one way of ATG, XTG, or WTG
* When doing clean up are you doing "j hooking" "buffing" and or "bull frogging" Also any type of stretching? if so and it is still not getting them, then try doing nothing and just run the blade over the area.
*Try changin the "Angle of Attack" with your razor if the is too "Flat" you are just scraping face and this could lead to errant whiskers not giving up the goat.

Again, you may be doing some or all of these things already, but maybe something in here will help

Good Luck you will get the DSBBS shave soon I bet

Thanks Dave.

I've never mapped my hair growth, but i've looked at the hairs coming in enough to see the chaotic storm it is. Maybe I need to pay a bit more attention to it. Regardless, with three passes, I'm getting most everything from a multitude of angles.

I've done some jhooking, and buffing, but never heard of bull frogging. Sounds... Slimey? Lol.

I've been Pre-shaving with soap / water, albeit Stirling Mentholated. I'll have to try something with tea tree. Any brand suggestions?

Yep, last shave I tried an all cold water shave. I felt like it helped. Will definitely keep it up and see if it's a good permenant addition.

PR: Face Wash with CeraVe
SO: Baron's Choice
RZ: Edwin Jagger DE86
BL: Personna Comfort (#2)
PO: Stirling Glacial Unscented Balm
TA: King Talc

NOTES: Face lather; shaved with cold water.

[emoji294][emoji294][emoji294]½ (3.5/5)

I decided to switch things up again and shave with my DE86. I skipped th shower and did a deep face wash with the recommended CeraVe soap.

The soap of choice today is something new: Periera's Baron's choice. I got this from West Coast Shaving. I've now caught them twice putting new items up for $0.00. They were very gracious for the heads up and sent me this freebie, as a thank you.

The scent is supposed to be Water Blossom Aromatherapy. Honestly, the scent hovers towards the feminine side, but is light enough not to offend or be an issue. The soap whipped up well, was slick, and fairly protective. I wouldn't say it wins any awards for residual slickness, in fact I didn't find a lot of that period. Still, it was good enough and the shave went well.

As with previous shaves, the DE86 is good, but I don't get the laser close shave. Since that wasn't what I was after, I thought it was a good choice. Forgiving, easy going, and competent without removing layers of skin if I err'ed a little.

In the end, a good, smooth, happy shave. My face feels nice. I'm pretty happy with this one. I've been considering it for a bit and I might just try to track down a RR MJ-90A razor (my EJ is used and has the finish missing from some of the threads... Thus, It's not long for the grave).

Yep, I really appreciated the gift. They certainly didn't have to do anything. It was very nice.

I just saw the errors and felt someone needs to tell them. Seen enough posts across these inter-webs to know someone is waiting out there for just this situation so they can do the wrong thing.

Good for you Paul 👍
