Anything that can go wrong... Will happen while I'm Shaving

I hear ya, and I would absolutely do the same if this isn't as good. However, I do like the potential for less cleanup work, if I can control the Ti well enough.

Also, the metal allows for it to be a forever razor. Chatting with the guy at Hensons, he said he'd imagine the Aluminum would last 10-20 years, depending on care. I'm 44, so that's definitely not forever for me... unless I plan to die young. Lol.

Worst case scenario, it's too much for me and I have to sell it to buy 2 or 3 more aluminum backups. Either way, it'll work out. [emoji6]
I like the Henson design/shave better than any other, so I would employ a twig and grass razor if it were made by them 😋

If the Al is a 9.5/10, the Ti is a 9-9.25/10 so really the same razor, just the weight is what throws me off. Long live the Henson! 💪🏻

Bummer about the shave Paul...hope you can get it figured out! Strange how it might be the weight that’s having that effect. 🤔

PRE: Stirling Glacial Bar Soap
SOAP: CBL Premium Smokey Mountain Cedar
RZR: Henson Ti-22 (Medium)
BLD: Gillette Nacet (#3)
POST: Stirling Glacial Post Shave Balm

[emoji294][emoji294][emoji294][emoji294] ½ (4.5/5)

Shave #3 with the Titanium. Today ended much better. I was a LOT more cognizant of the pressure, etc. I nicked myself a few times, but that's to be expected until I master the razor. I also used one of my best soaps. The shave ended irritation free and very close.

Next shave I plan to jump ship to a Personna Comfort for a few shaves, just to see how it compares. I felt like the Nacet kicked the sharpness up a notch, and maybe with the Titanium that isn't necessary.

Nonetheless, a happy DFS+ was had. Next shave... Christmas night. 🎄

Tonight I decided to shave with the Old Spice Original cream from my Reindeer buddy ( @OpusX ). It was quite good... Slick and protective. The only downside is I felt it was a little bit drying. Since I use AS balm religiously in this weather, it didn't make a difference. I walked away with a clean shaven and we'll moisturized face... And smelling great. [emoji6]

Might have to try their Lime scented tube next.

Thanks again Tony!

Glad you liked the OS cream. It certainly isnt "original" in either the Shulton or even P&G formulations, but enjoyable none the less.

Yeah. I grew up with my Step-Father using the original old spice. It was never a scent for me. This, however, smells great and is definitely in my comfort zone. Loving the scent, for sure. Perfect choice.

Hey, @OpusX ... have you tried the Lime variant of their creams? If so can you opine as to whether it is a straight lime scent or a mixture?

I feel like, if they added a lime component to something akin to the original, it would be an awesome scent, too. If that's what they did, I'm going to have to order some of the Lime. [emoji846]

Thanks.

I have not tried the Lime as of yet, but I may snag some after I kill a few more things around the den.

Well, if you beat me to it, let me know... And vice versa, I'll give you my impression if I pick it up first. [emoji106]

Thanks.

Let me pose a question here for all of you folks much more experienced than I (almost everyone)...

Am I missing a trick here... I've follow the same post shave process and 9/10 times I can't even get a borderline acceptable shave without it.

I guess I'll Go to the whole shave here, just to paint the full picture:

I rinse my face, than wash with stirling menthol Preshave.

I apply lather and let it sit for 4-5 minutes.

I shave WTG, XTG, ATG

Then sometimes I do a second ATG

I almost always do cleanup. This has been much more successful with the Henson that I can loosen a quarter turn.

I then apply Aftershave (Stirling Glacial balm, sometimes preceded by alum... Not always)

Finally after my face has rested for a bit and I've cleaned up, I do a bit more touch-up with just water.

I've tried, in the past chasing that DFS/BBS and it just won't come without that downtime and possibly pore closure. It's almost like th hairs hide at some point, becoming uncuttable (think whack-a-moles recessed, lol).

Anyone have any thoughts (about the shave, not about the time you wasted reading this, lol). Thanks!

Question, hot/warm or cold water shave? also, face or bowl lathering? if you are washing your face right before lathering, you probably don't need to let the lather sit before shaving, and that might even be reducing the slickness.

For me, face lathering and cold water shaves were the ticket. Also, for cold water shaving run/rinse your razor under hot water and it can be almost magical how big the difference is.

I typically do warm water shave with face lathering and the wait. I had tried cold water sometime ago on @NurseDave suggestion. I don't recall why, I'll have to look back. End result was, I missed the warm sooth feeling.

If you face lather and rinse the razor with warm, that means the cold water is only to initially build the brush up? Want to make sure I got it right.

Thanks!

The warm water only hits the razor. Cold for lathering and rinsing your face between passes.

I still do a warm shave once in a while but cold is better for my face.

So as I mentioned the other day, I had a gift credit at Amazon so I figured it was free money and I could try something crazy. In that order I got a small vial of Eternal Essence essential oil. I figured it might be fun to see if I could on-the-spot scent a batch of soap. Today I finally got to try it out. I loaded my brush with the CBL granite, added some water and 2 drops of oil to a bowl, and proceeded to build a lather.

First off, I was afraid I might have issues, as I have sensitive skin. But I think I diluted it right, as there were no reactions and the shave was smooth and moderately scented. The CBL granite (a gift from my Reindeer buddy) performed very well. I'm now close to two hours post shave and I can still detect the lightest scent.

I'm super happy with how it worked out. [emoji106]

Don't put Chris out of business, now (personally, I think it smells like stale beer)!
Lol. Not gonna happen. Just wasting some Amazon credit.

The scent here is sweeter than CBL, with a definitive orange scent in it. It doesn't smell nearly as good as CBL, but I thought it was the safest bet for a scent to try.

If you look through these oils (or several other prominent brands on Amazon) you'll see a lot of reviews that their synthetic / stale / off smelling / etc. This absolutely could never replace buying scented soaps. Still, it was fun (and free) to try. [emoji6]

Here it is @Spider , my first impression of the badger brush...

PRE: Stirling Glacial Post Shave Balm
SOAP: Stirling Ozark
RZR: Henson Ti-22 (Medium)
BLD: Gillette Nacet (#4)
POST: Stirling Glacial Post Shave Balm

Around 3 years of traditional shaving, I finally got to my first Badger brush shave. I picked up a vintage Erskine 100 (2-tone) with a new 20mm 2 band badger through a BST (along with the Ozark soap).

I cleaned the brush with some handsoap and then soaked it while I washed my face. I then wrung the brush out, and proceeded to load it. Once I put the Preshave on, I applied a bit of water to the brush and built my lather.

I have to say, if this were synthetic, I wouldn't get more than a pass and a half worth from a 20mm. That's said, this badger bloomed like crazy and after all was said and done, I had plenty left in the tank after 4 full passes worth (3+ a cleanup). This brush did a wonderful job from loading to applying... I am more than impressed. When I first felt the dry brush, I thought it was going to be scritchy and painful. Nope. Once water was applied, it was soft as any synthetic. As icing on the cake, it is a fabolous looking piece of history! I may need to get a few more badgers and mix my collection up a bit. [emoji6]

As per the soap, that was also a winner. The scent is a nice green scent, pine and whatever other greens Rod threw in there. It is fresh and would work well in most any season. Additionally, my wife approved of the scent... Not her favorite, but she liked it more than casual indifference. (That's a win in my book!)

All in all, a happy acquisition, shave, and first foray into Badgers. [emoji106]

The picture here is what my plan was for storage... Bristles down to drain the brush, in one mug. The other mug will soon enough have a nice @uacowboy exclusive cover. Inside is a squeezed out tube of OS soap (currently drying).
