Tonight's shave was an interesting one, it was almost a stunt shave. With the storm that moved through upstate NY, we lost power yesterday afternoon. It's has still not been restored. Judging by the actions of the power company, were probably looking at Sunday or Monday. Still, the shave must go on.

So, by time I got home it was after dark. Anyone with common sense would have waited for the morning light. But, alas I am not one of them. Thus, I took to shaving with cold water and a flashlight. Unfortunately, I rushed the shave, not wanting to waste the battery. I filled the sink either water. I barely touched the Preshave soap to my face, then immediately lathered up. When that's was done, there was no wait time, it was immediately on you the speed round shave. No cleanup, just a quick 3 pass shave.

It's was fairly painful, not letting the Preshave and then lather work at the skin. Nonetheless, I achieved a fairly good shave (and some not so good burning skin) for my trouble. Cold water rinse, some posts shave balm, and I'm set until next time.

Have a good night, Cadre!

I know, and I should have waited for the morning so I wasn't rushed (or half blind). Stupid choice. Ooh well. 🤷‍♂️

If you shave with super quick strokes, it doesn't matter if your whiskers have softened. The speed of the blade's motion will do the trick just as easily as a rusty guillotine blade will lop off a noggin.

Since our power finally came back this evening, I was able to take my time. Plenty of prep with plenty of time. What a world of difference. Coupled with a new sharp blade, it was smooth and efficient. Again cleanup was done with a quarter turn loosened. The result was great.

Have a great evening Cadre!

So, as usual I sniffed my soaps to find which scent was calling me this time around. A personal mix of Chris' (CBL) got the nod. I believe I had only used it once before. This time instead of scraping the top of the soap container, I dug in with my spoon and scooped out a deep chunk of soap. Loaded it from my bowl and face lathered it. This soap has some of the synthetic coolant in it.

By time I let it set in, my face was mildly burning. I decided to press on, hoping it would just subsided. I made it through to the end of pass one and lathered for pass two when I realized the burning was sizably worse. I rinsed it off and mixed up some M&M Naid (Mango).

I was able to finish the shave nice and clean, but it was a burning, bloody mess. So, despite the 4 star shave results, I'm knocking off a star for the pain. My cheeks are still on fire.

I think I need to pay more attention to my soaps, I wonder what other soaps are to blame, when I was thinking it was the razor?

Ugh. Sensitivity to soaps is not a nice thing. Shaving should be an enjoyable few minutes of relaxation.
Well in defense of traditional shaving, prior to this I would shave once every 5 to 7 days. Every time like clockwork it would be a painful, red, irritated mess.

Not every shave is going to be a spa day experience. As long as instances like this one, close to how it was before, are few and far between... I'm happy.

I did start to look through all the soaps I have accumulated, thinking back to the last use or two. I pulled aside the ones that I recall irritation, redness, etc. I plan to focus on weather those instances where a result of the soap or something else. Time to stop blaming the razor all the time. Bummer about the reaction, totally kills the good shave vibes ☹️

Was it the scenting of the mix or the coolant?

I'm guessing the coolant. I didn't do well with a previous soap with it. This mixture is a very small amount, but the burning was unmistakable. Perhaps a pocket of coolant? Who knows. Nonetheless, it's shelved. Lol.

Unlike last thing, today the shave went off well ( or was it "FINE"?). At the end, I loosened the cap to do some more efficient / agressive cleanup. Something about the blade caught my eye, so I removed it to find that it had split. Yikes! I wonder if this was a defective blade, or something in going to run into over and over again with the loosening and tightening up the blade with each shave? Since next time I plan to revisit the MJ90A, I decided to toss the blade, put the new one in the 90A, and did my cleanup that way.

Not quite as close a shave as I like, but it was still a damn 'FINE' shave. [emoji1787]
