Antique Store Finds

Aaaaaannndddd.... I was skim reading. 😂
I did go back to get the Barbasol set but by the time I did that guy’s section in the antique mall was gone.
The aftershave bottle is what they want $79 for. Lol

We need to wake up this dead thread!

Found this Ogallala Bayrum Cologne and couldn’t leave it where I found it. It was maybe 70% but cheap and STRONG!

And then there was this box!!!! They knew exactly what they had though…. The toggle was $600… 😣
I bought nothing from that case…

Here in Chicagoland I kinda gave up on antique stores as most either had no shaving stuff at all, or the ones that did clearly thought vintage shaving was the place to make some money and had things like grungy Red Tips and Injectors for FAR more than they were actually worth. Need to get downstate again soon, hoping there's more variety outside the metro area. Do usually have a nice selection of Avon decanters, though!

My last 2 Antique store trips were complete busts, didn't find much and what I did find was priced way too high for me.
Yeah, darn google has those vendors asking the going rate. It’s like they aren’t even thinking about us, only their bottom line.. It’s Christmas time, how could they??? 😭.

LOL of course I’m kidding, good on them! One day I’ll go back and that stuff will be less than half that price and I’ll scoop it up.

Yeah same here in St. Louis. Once you get 30 or so miles outside the city limits you start finding interesting and well priced items. It takes a lot of work to find much good, but it’s all worth it when you find a NOS gillette set or an unused pack of Williams Tonsorial or Yardley. Loads of fun and it just great to get away from the city!

You found a toggle in the wild! That in itself is very cool. I’ve never seen one in person.
You know, that's the way I looked at it... So what if it was overprice or what ever! I got to handle a toggle and most people can't say they've ever done that. I'll keep looking! I've seen a couple in my travels, but neither were cheap. The first one I found was in Jefferson City about 7 years ago, when we were still in debt payoff mode and I was on one of the restraints. It was only about $140, which is a steal today, but back then when we were working the Dave Ramsey plan really hard, there was no way I'd spend that kind of money on a razor.

Had 30 min while waiting on my wife’s car to be detailed, so I walked over to a nice antique shop. Found a few shaving related items and of course forgot to take a picture of the cool Shumate razor with lock scales and a cool Avon Spicy Teepee(never seen one of these before) super cool decanter. I’ll have photos of those shortly.
Some rough Gillette DE’s for cheap, but too rough for me.

How can this be? You seek out vintage AS, and you’ve never picked up any Avon until now? There are so many great scents in their lineup.
I know, I have for the most part been consciously avoiding Avon since my early wet shaving antiquing experiences over 10 years ago. I had an entire bottle of Avon island lime drain out in my work vehicle. The smell was nice at first, but then as then became nauseating. For some reason after that, I equated their bottles with cheap and poor quality. Mostly from the bottle leaking out(likely my fault) and because there was so much of it still in the market, much of it new. I need to give them all a try! Thankfully they are cheap!
