Antique Store Finds

Didn’t find too much at the antique store yesterday, but what I did find was pretty rare. A 1930s cargo shaving soap bowl. I don’t call it a mug because it doesn’t have a handle but I guess it could just as easily be called a mug. Of course I left it where it is, but it is pretty rare to see! Other items seen but not pictured, tons of Everready shaving brushes and Avon aftershaves.

There's a bunch of antique shops south of downtown Las Vegas, about a 5 minute walk from the Four Queens (where we're meeting up in April) and within a block or two of the best BBQ place in town. I need to get over there and clear everything out before all of you show up and pick the place clean. .. ..--- ....-

Went to the Antique Mall today and finally found a bottle of Avon Island Lime aftershave. It's a little dusty, the lid/trunk is a little misaligned and the number is taped on, but for $5 bucks I snatched it up because it is full and I have wanted to try this AS.

Ive always wondered about the Avon A.S. if it could still be good after 40 yrs. Guess i will have to smell some next time I run across a bottle. BTW, I do enjoy a nice Lime scent. Congrats on the find (if its still good).

Thanks, it seems fine, it has a nice lime scent still. Many of the guys here have and use vintage Avon. I only Have 3 including this one. If you have any specific questions @Spider is a good person to ask, he has many of them and knows some history and has a book or two about Avon scents.

That is such a cool find! And Lime! You can never go wrong with Citrus - it’s like a shaving law!

@Gasman

I concur if you EVER have questions about any of the AVON products ask either @Spider because he seems to be one of the local AVON Gurus or post your question on here to one of us and I am sure we can Help / Guide / Enable you with your curiosity...

The trunk isn’t connected to the cap, so you can just pull it off and re-align it. Nice score!

40 years or more! I have some Avon’s that’s over 60 years old. Of course I also have some Aqua Velva that’s close to 100 years old. Alcohol is the main ingredient, and it’s a natural preservative, so as long as it was stored properly (away from heat and direct sunlight), then they are fine. I’ve bought hundreds of bottles and only ever found 2 that were bad.

I found one just like it years ago. I don't think you will find a better lime AS.

I just love citrus, and this one is my favorite...

Good to know. I will keep an eye out for some Avon. I dont think Id want the funny bottles so transfering the goods to another bottle is what Id do.

I think the last 2 bottles i seen was a train engine and the pistol.

I concur 100%! It’s the best lime scent!
My friend and Brother, YOU are the one to blame for my ADDICTION to the vintage Avon scents... Island Lime is a staple in my summer splashes, tho I must admit I use it sparingly... Have to leave some for my future descendants to fight over, lol.

The good news for me is that unlike most lime stuff, it lasts a BIT longer than most, and smells the most like limes, without the "candy" smell...

I've been on a Blend 7 kick as of late. Like, so much so that I put some under my nose before I put on my CPAP at night!

I still have not decided what inspired that scent for Avon.... I pick up a kind of Brut/Hi Karate/Clubman mix vibe.... Any idea where it came from?

Miss you guys. I'm over on another site a lot, lol.
