... a Rogues ramblings & some shave talk too!

July 28/2020

....couple more days of work to go. Some gear waiting for me when I get home. Not sure if the Karve is ready, the Vector awaits as well as a couple pre-shave goodies.

Karve's Edmonton headquarters is located about an hour away from my homestead which is pretty cool. Anybody else have an artisan close to home? If it's not their Friday maybe I can pick up on my way to visit the family. A call may be in order! Never owned a brass razor, I've heard they "smell"....

Hope all is well with the Cadre folk and everyone is making the best of things while staying safe.
Back to the Rex again really hoping for a good shave from it. Working my way up the dial to 3.5 and see if we can get a little bit closer of a shave there. The Silver Blue is under the hood for a second round of whisker elimination....

Tonight's shave:

Rex Ambassador (3.5)
Gillette Silver Blue (2)
Ever-Ready 3 Step, SHD 2 band, bulb, 26mm Badger Butterscotch and Sapphire from Heritage Collection products
Turtleship Te Java soap
Thayer's Cucumber Witch Hazel
Myrsol F./Extra after shave
A&E Khalifa after shave
Aqua di Parma Colonia Balm

No irritation from Rex tonight. Jack it up to 4.5 for the next use. Chased a lot, but this soap has some nice slickness. Pretty good for all the chasing I did. No hot spots either. Lather is no issue, over hydrated on the first lather but didn't need to go to the puck. This brush can dig up a lot of lather in 30s.
Didn't get much for notes very light to my nose, very pleasant. Witch hazel and some Myrsol then splash a good shot of Khalifa because I really like this stuff. Forgot to bring the soap up with me but it went well with this shave I think. The AdP balm finished my night's shave...

Awesome Shave Dean! I tried Turtleship quite a while ago and didn't have great results. Not bad...just not great. I bet if I would have used it more I could have dialed it in better. But great shave on your part nonetheless!

As a side note, I am not sure if you are aware, but I believe Italian Barber ships to Canada reasonably and possibly free depending on your purchase. Here is a quote from there shipment page:

"At Italian Barber, all shipments over $60 USD (before any applicable taxes) within the contiguous USA and Canada (Excluding Territories) are FREE. Regular ground service only. THE WEBSITE IS PRICED IN US DOLLARS but you may check-out and pay in USD or CAD.

At Italian Barber, all shipments under $60 within the contiguous USA and Canada(Excluding Territories)
are a flat rate of $6.95(Orders shipped within USA & Canada below $35 USD value may be charged a small added premium depending on the zone). You can also choose to upgrade to EXPEDITED / PRIORITY an added fee - We will ship Priority in Canada by UPS Standard Ground or Canada Post Expedited Parcel."

I would check with them first though to make sure. Have a great Wednesday.

The Grooming Dept guy is in our same small town. Never reached out to him. I know there’s not store front or anything.

I see some good shaves in your future Dean! Hope the Karve and Vector don’t disappoint!

You've gotta Stone Field Shaving Company a few hundred miles away from you in Winnipeg. I've had a great experience with Jonathan. And he's got a rather eclectic assortment of products.

.....journaling and myself have never gotten it together for any extended period of time!
I've had a couple good shaves the past week. The Rex is being tamed though the shaves are still sub par, technique is more than likely the problem.
The Vector, now that can deliver the goods! Yesterday, the first attempt at shaving with it, swathed the 2 day crop quite easily and with great results. Very easy to use though it does look a bit intimidating.Intuitive I believe the word is.
Had some back troubles the past week which kept me off work a few days. Got the shave cave organized a bit better, standing and moving around helped a lot. Most of the days just practiced some bowl lathering on some soaps that I will be trying in the next month. (picture below)
Saturdays shave was all Antica Barbaria Colla. Very nice indeed. Definitely my favorite shave of the week.
Going for another shave this evening with the Vector and see if there is any irritation like with the Ambassador.
Since the first of the month I've been following a pre shave routine using a few products that I just received. The PAA Ice Cube and the Antica Barbaria Colla are all I've used so far but really can't tell the difference. It did help the lather with the MWF it seemed but will try again in a couple weeks as well as watch with other soaps. All in all the shaves have been good this past week.
Tonight's shave was excellent still getting used to my grip on the Vector. It's pretty easy to get the hang of and left me with zero irritation or hot spots. 2 shaves in 2 days, might get through all this soap after all.....
Was concentrating on the blade never paid much attention to the DC After the Rain. No complaints on the soap lathered up nice in the bowl and did the rest of its duties easily. Declaration Grooming makes a great product in my opinion. Myrsol Blue and some Nivea Balm finished my week of shaves.
Best of the week to everyone.

Dean
