If you have to do something...

Since I have been gifted with a new custom title, I feel I should explain the situation and episode that earned for me this exalted status. It was a late summer evening in '74 or '75, when I was 17 or 18. I was out with some friends, drinking beer and whatnot when we were all suddenly stricken with urgent and insatiable hunger. We went to the neighborhood DQ to buy copious amounts of ice cream, but we got there shortly after closing. Feeling a certain sensation in my bowels, I told my friends, "This is it. Stand back." A couple of friends were skeptical because they had seen two failed attempts by me that merely blew out the match without methane ignition. I sat down on the DQ parking lot curbstone facing a darkened Belmont St on the west side of Brockton, Mass. I lit the lighter and let out a mighty roar, which immediately and forcefully ignited into a stream of flame that literally was longer than my bent legs. It lit up the night sky. My friends were whooping and hollering their collective approval and, dare I say, respect. One even went home and told his parents of my feat, which was particularly embarrassing the next time I went over to his house. I can still picture their sly smiles when I entered their home a few nights later. Whenever we get together every few years, this feat is mentioned.

100% true story. ☺️

Shave #170 (459 Open Blade Shaves) of 2021:

Gear: RR GC .68 OC, Gillette Platinum blade, Yaqi Rainbow w/ pony synth brush, Proraso Red soap, homemade witch hazel/aloe mix, Proraso Red AS, and Pierre Cardin clone oil to finish!

Not so good sleep last night. One of the doggies was sick until about 2 in the morning.

Shave was great! A little something refreshing until the second wave of heat hits today. It’s slowly crept up in the forecast to now match yesterday’s misery.

Kids are officially out of school now for the summer.

Looking forward to my sleep in day tomorrow for sure!

Have a great Friday all!

Poor doggo... Hope he / she is feeling better. 🐶

So I picture Chris packing up his house, cleaning, going a bit crazy. While Bruce, who came over to help, is sitting on the couch with a beer wishing Chris would stop moving around so much while he’s trying to tell a story.

Shave #170 (459 Open Blade Shaves) of 2021:

Gear: Colonial Armored General, Feather Pro blade, Graydog Art Deco brush, CBL Grassroots Lavender soap, homemade witch hazel/aloe mix, Speick AS, and vintage YSL Rive Gauche to finish!

Nice morning sleeping in a bit and out for breakfast with the missus.

To say I’ve been looking forward to this shave for the last week or so would be an understatement! CBL Grassroots Lavender seems to be dominating as my day-off shave soap but today at least there was an extra good reason to use it…vintage Rive Gauche of course! Excellent shave, followed up by a couple chest sprays and one to the wrists…oh man…so good! The rich modern barbershop vibe is rolling off in waves! For any curious, I can finally confirm that Fine’s AB is a faithful representation…perhaps a touch fresher. So glad I found this deal!

Starting some causal packing today and trying to stay inside for another 100+ degree day.

Have a great Saturday all!

Related story: While I was working in the burn unit, this guy was brought in from the DQ parking lot with 2nd degree burns to his junk from somehow setting the inside of his pants on fire....
It wasn't me! So many interesting stories come out of the burn unit.

Shave #171 (459 Open Blade Shaves) of 2021:

Gear: Gillette Prewar Tech, Feather blade, Yaqi Sagrada Familia synth brush, Proraso Red soap, homemade witch hazel/aloe mix, Proraso Red AS, and Exceptional for Men to finish!

Happy Father’s Day gents!

Good shave this morning. Not much to take care of given my General shave late yesterday morning. Exceptional starts out nicely scented…but at least to my nose, it’s longevity and sillage are far less than exceptional (see what I did there?) only lasting what seems like a couple hours unless in clothing.

Today’s work shift begins my final official week of work as a custodian! My job will be packing after that! With them not being able to yet find my replacement, I of course offered to come in if anything major happens and they need a hand briefly.

Have a blessed Sunday all!

Shave #172 (459 Open Blade Shaves) of 2021:

Gear: Gillette Prewar Tech, Feather blade, Yaqi Rainbow w/ pony synth brush, Proraso Red soap, homemade witch hazel/aloe mix, Proraso Red AS, and vintage RL Chaps to finish!

4 shifts left!

Nice shave this morning! The Proraso Red has a noticeable dark circle in the center…teasing bottom I think, but who knows!

Great Father’s Day yesterday. After work we hung out at home, then went out for dinner to a local favorite, then back home for dessert and to watch the new Luca movie with the family.

It’s Monday all…go get em!

Shave #173 (459 Open Blade Shaves) of 2021:

Gear: Gillette Prewar Tech, Feather blade, Yaqi Sagrada Familia synth brush, Proraso Red soap, homemade witch hazel/aloe mix, Proraso Red AS, and Atelier Vanille Insensee to finish!

3 shifts left!

Groggy wake up…but nothing a cleanup n shave can’t fix…with a nice home cold brew coffee to help. 😂

We’re in a decently nice cool weather patter for the next couple days. Highs in the 80s with cool mornings. Next week is projected to be nearly all 100 degree days so far. And where’s Santa Barbara? Mid to high 60s this week and low to mid 70s next week… 😂👌

Have a great Tuesday all!
