Words of wisd..... Yeah right.... We all know better than that!

Glad you’re ok man! I probably would have pooed a little, then laughed nervously after.

All this talk lately about weck razors (@Dave in KY ) got me in the mood. So not a "weck", but my little dubleduck takes the weck blades.

Funny you mention this. I happened to peruse a thread about Wecks at the other place while researching for my purchase. You and a few others popped up there with your little collections; you were quite stoked when you had found your Duble Duck!

My daughter just got her own flat, and when she'd call me over for help with projects I'd do my best to show her HOW to do it herself. Then I bought her a toolkit for Christmas. I can't tell you how happy it made me when she called to ask to borrow the drill so she could hang a mirror.
That is pretty cool. My step-daughter has actually asked me to help her change her oil. Most of the time it's "can you fix this", but she does like to do things at least once to know how.

Please tell me there are laser guides on that saw too!? Love those things. Amd those are some massive and massively expensive board I assume!

Yes there are lasers on it. I believe a rough estimate for the one my hat was on would be close to $1000. Not sure on the exact board feet in it, but it is probably close to that.

Didn't scare me at all, but as soon as I heard the air I was thinking "you #$*@$*^# idiot...."

Yep, I remember posting about it over there. I like it. It's almost too small, but it still is pretty cool.

I've got a Dubl Duck shavette as well. It is on the small side, so I've never used it. Really should dig it out at some point though. What blade is that that has such rounded corners???

I bought a black colored weck hair shaper off the bay a few years ago because it had a ton of blades with it. There were a few packs of original weck blades along with an entire box and a bunch of loose 5 packs of Amco blades. Some weren't that good because they had gotten wet, but I managed to get quite a few good ones.
The blade in the duck is one of those Amco blades. I sent John @The Monkey a pack of them some time ago when we were still on the other site, but don't know if he ever used them or not. If you want a pack give me your address.

A blast from the past. I used one and it wasn't bad. Not as sharp as the Personas but really smoothed out after a stroping. I have to see if I can find them.

Thursday nights shave was a good one. Took the gold dollar back to the Jnat and put a nice fresh edge on it. Got a really smooth shave from it.

Soap was a Stirling sample that I've had in the drawer for quite a while now. I think it is from a sample pif I got from Nurse Dave a long time ago and never got around to trying. Was a little hesitant as the last few Stirling soaps I've tried I either really didn't like the scent or it reacted with me quite harshly.
This one was a winner though. Have to admit the scent has faded a bit, but it was still pleasant and no burn from this one. Soap performance was very good. Even the ones I didn't like performed well, so I wasn't concerned on that part.

i've been tempted to get a sample of that one a few times. might have to give it a go now.

Great looking setup!

Curious about the black cherry. Does it lean sweet or tart?
My sample leans a little to the sweet side. Not horribly sweet, but pleasant. Remember, mine is old and a bit weaker so I can't swear to what it would be like on a fresh tub.

So tonight I used the Stirling again. Still didn't disappoint. Lathered it up with my 400 I restored with a Whipped Dog boar knot. Surprisingly great knot for the price.
For the razor. I have a few razors from @The Monkey that I am honing for him. I got the Puma that he sent me ran through the final progression on the Jnat tonight and decided to give it a test.
Well...... I have to say that after tonight's shave, it may need to stay for further testing. Maybe about 6 months to a years worth maybe... Normally I'm a bigger fan of the really thin grinds. This one is about a 1/4 grind and maybe a bit heavy for that even. But I have to say, this thing is smooooth. Almost didn't need the second pass tonight. I think I'm going to try and push the edge a little further though. This is some damn fine steel and I think I can squeeze a little more out of it yet.

Shawn: "Sorry John, im just not sure what's up with this edge, it's almost there. I'm sure of it. I'll get it back to you "soon" i swear!"

haha Good stuff Shawn. that was my reaction when i did the test shave with Steve's Dubl Duck

Took a little inspiration from @HMan today, and broke out some CRSW. (Just 'cause I don't always comment, doesn't mean I'm not reading. :p)
Been working on a Razor that @The Monkey is PIFfing to @Jaro1069 getting it ready for him. Very sharp, but a little harsh. Got a few very small weepers on the chin. Going to see if a bit of heavy stropping will tame it down a notch. If not I'm going to try finishing on the Coti instead of the Jnat. Jnat's can put a super sharp edge on, but can be a bit harsh with some steels.

Work was a bit slow today, so I took a piece of 5/8 inch square stock and milled out a cavity to hold an index-able carbide insert. Then drilled and tapped it to hold the insert in place, and machined it down to fit in the lathe tool holder and make it where it was the right height for center. That thing with a roughing insert will actually hog off an 1/8 inch of steel in one pass if you are in a hurry. I can now go from a roughing tool to a finishing tool just by loosening one screw and changing the insert instead of taking the entire tool out of the holder and re-grinding it. So I took a slow day and made it semi-productive.
