Words of wisd..... Yeah right.... We all know better than that!

Still alive guys! I know I haven't been around much, just been really busy. Seems like no matter how much I get done, I'm still way behind.

No videos from work. Haven't been running the machines lately, that comes in waves. Been simple but busy things like changing a 90 pound sheave and putting new belts on the blower, or taking a clamp wrench head off to change roller bearings....

Did fabricate a new/repair shelf mount for the welding machine in the plant 2 maintenance truck to sit on though. Welding aluminum has got to be great for the lungs. The black color on the top corner where I tip my hood back up is what it's supposed to be... not the grayish white it has become. :ROFLMAO:

I know how it is. Sometimes I get a little ash on me from cleaning out my pipe.

Got a nice sample pack from Chris @CBLindsay .

The one I thought I would really like is the sir fougere as I am finding I really like woodsy scents. It was a little "perfumy" to me in the tub. Haven't had the chance to try it yet to see if it changes during the shave. Hoping that tames down just a bit. In all honesty, I've never smelled the scent it is based on, so I really had no idea what to expect. I just saw fougere and was hoping for more "fern" type scent.
These are a little hit and miss for me as I really don't like the smell of lavender, but some don't make it stand out as much.

The cherry blossom bamboo I wasn't too sure about, but it is amazing! Probably my favorite of the bunch.
The orange dirt is a little mild in the tub, but hoping it will come out more when lathered.
The one I did try so far was the dragons blood. This is an interesting scent. Very nice though. This is the one that I have had the chance to try and I really liked it. Performance was.... well... It's a CBL soap.. What else is there to say? It is definitely top notch all the way. I used my CJB feather clone and it just glides right over my face with this stuff. Excellent soap!

Work has been busy.... We are upgrading our gang rip saw to have an optimizer. In english, a gang rip saw is like a table saw with multiple blades set at varying distances apart allowing you to make multiple cuts and even multiple sizes the entire length of a board with one pass through the saw. The optimizer will "read" the board and adjust the fence automatically to allow for the best output from each individual board.
So I've been cutting out the old hydraulic cylinder and mount and fabricating and welding in a mount for the new cylinder that has a magnetic resistance sensor in it that tells the computer where it is at in it's travel range.
Then our triple head went down today. (Has a planer head, rough sanding head, and finish sanding head all in one pass.) So I spent 3 hours machining new and adjusting parts for that.
We are having a new roof put on the plant, so I may be working over this weekend to repair some blower lines, and at some point we are going to remove the air compressor intake pipes from the roof and re-route them through the wall, so will be doing some pipefitting and more welding there.

On the more personal side, some of you know that "the boss" has primary progressive MS. We spent almost 3 years trying to figure out what was going on because of insurance blocking a head MRI to find the lesions. We also finally found a good neurologist who she really liked and insurance screwed that up as well since he was out of state. So she has been untreated for the last 3 years because she was allergic to the first 2 they tried and then the insurance change happened before we could try another. We have also been fighting for 3 years with constant denials for social security disability.
Monday, she finally got back in to her normal PCP. She (the PCP) is actually really good and actually cares. You end up waiting a bit in the office, but it's because she takes the time to talk to you. She is setting the boss up with an appointment for a new local neurologist that actually takes her insurance and isn't 2 hours away, and is also going to help out with the SS crap that you have to do. So finally... hopefully.... it seems we have a little good news on that front. Got my fingers crossed anyhow.

I hope all goes well for you and "the boss". I have a few tales of woe navigating the health insurance system. I like to say we have a health insurance system and need a healthcare system. But i digress. Great journal. Guy makes great soaps.

Sounds like good news on all fronts...nice Shawn!

Nice CBL sample pack there, some really killer scents!

I hope all goes well with coming up for a new treatment and with the SSA.

I'm surprised the orange dirt didn't irritate your face. You and I have the same citrus issues.

Had a decent shave today. Used my Sorrentino brush to whip up some CBL and mowed off a few days growth with my Peaso straight.
I'm still not sure on this scent. Whatever the one smell is that is in there tames down when lathered, but every once in a while I get a whiff of it again. Overall it's not something I hate, but not a favorite scent-wise. Falls into the "if I have it I'll use it, if I don't have it I won't miss it" category. Performance is still spot on though, just my personal dislike of one of the fragrance oils.

And no... The other stuff wasn't used in the shave... Those are my most used tools at work. Flashlight, leatherman for the pliers, cutters, and knife, and my screwdriver/prybar/hammer/awl for doing a lot of things half of which it wasn't meant to be doing...

We have been running some mahogany wood through the plant. There are some pretty impressive boards coming through.

First of all...this sounds violent.

Second of all, Shawn...you keep making me feel less of a man with all the manly talk around here! 🤪

That is great news about the wife. Really hope she can get some quality treatment and really hope the doc can help out with the Social Security stuff! Things do sound like they are looking up!

That is beautiful lumber!

Man my biggest peeve about living in the city is not being able to have a workshop and do woodworking projects.

It funny, but I swear half the people here wouldn't know what to do with a screwdriver if you gave them one.

My daughter just got her own flat, and when she'd call me over for help with projects I'd do my best to show her HOW to do it herself. Then I bought her a toolkit for Christmas. I can't tell you how happy it made me when she called to ask to borrow the drill so she could hang a mirror.

Please tell me there are laser guides on that saw too!? Love those things. Amd those are some massive and massively expensive board I assume!

I hate to hear when people have a tough time getting the care they need. There is no reason it has to be that way. I constantly wish the health system I work for was across the whole country.

When I lived in the city, I had to make a shop out in the tiny garage we had with out apartment. It worked, but my neighbor would always ask me what I was going to do when I was walking out to the garage. I wanted to say "Nunya", but just decided to move to the country where I was around like minded people. Now I have a woodshop, blacksmith shop, and flintknapping workshop. I couldn't be happier.

Shawn's in his element at this new job, you can tell.

All this talk lately about weck razors (@Dave in KY ) got me in the mood. So not a "weck", but my little dubleduck takes the weck blades. Paired it up with a little eveready butterscotch that Rudy put a nice shavemac knot in for me, and some CBL cherry blossom bamboo.

Love the scent of this soap. Very clean green wood smell with a flowery tone that isn't too "girly" or overpowering. Great scent. Seemed to dry on me rather quickly which I definitely am not accustomed to from a CBL soap, but in all fairness my skin does seem a little extra dry today and I was a bit rushed and may have also under-hydrated the lather. Great post shave feel as normal though, so I"m thinking it was more the operator error aspect than anything with the soap really.

Work has been busy. Most of the week was a bunch of torch cutting, grinding, and welding. Today was a bit interesting..... Had a definite dumb a$$ moment.
The belt sanders have a large continuous belt that goes over 3 wheels. Two on the bottom with a flat platten in between, then a single roller on the top that keeps tension and handles the tracking. There is an air cylinder under the top roll to lift it to maintain tension, and release it to let slack to change the belts.
This particular machine has sat for around 5 years but they started using it again recently. Well the grease in the cylinder has hardened up and made it so the cylinder wouldn't cycle properly.
I THOUGHT, I had the switch in the up position ans started to add fresh grease. I got enough new grease in to free the cylinder and it dropped..... Right onto the back of my hand pinning it in place.... This is a 90 pound roll being pulled harder by 40 pounds of air pressure. So I se the grease gun down and flipped the switch back to the up position so I could get my hand out, then finished the job.
Felt like a moron, but the hand is fine other than being a little tender.
