Well, "Three Cubes, Two Fingers, and a Splash of Water" as part of a famous quote is very true and IMHO the only way to drink this. As neat is wet oak, burnt carmel and ethanol on the nose, and the same with a sharp heat on the tongue, palate and throat. The finish is harsh and, not to hot, charcoal and wood, and an overpowering licorice to me. That is neat of course. Franks way mellows it all and make this much more enjoyable an finishes much smoother and a touch of sweet vanilla and caramel I am not a big JD fan, but on the rocks it can work. As to the other part of Sinatra's quote "This is the Nectar of the Gods Boys". It would be true, if he was talking about the God's of the Lint Trap. Sorry Frank, but I would not even give this to Joey Bishop, just ok for me

This is an interesting label one with a lot of history that is being revived. I have a store pick that is superb! This is good but hits in the middle. I love the cider finish and the nose is great too. I'll be following this brand closely to see what they release in the years to come.

Late entry this evening. Tonight was supposed to be Bulliet, however it was also Domino and Dinner night at some friends, so our host knew that I had been doing BHM and he had me try this. He is mostly a Crown and Rye drinker, however he keeps a few bottles of Bourbon around. Widow Janes is a Brooklyn, NY based.... Yes I said Brooklyn.. Distillery that sources its Bourbon from Kentucky and Indiana and age it 10 yrs to 12 yrs. All small batch and aged in Charred Oak and finished in Maple syrup Barrels. Was not to excited based on the proof however the most unique of the 18 days so far, and a perfect sipping whisky with friends over an evening. This is relatively sweet all over but has a warm finish. On the nose it is Sugared Pecans, Burnt sugar and Birch beer and a woody charr. On the Palate, and tongue it heats up but is really creamy. The finish is Cinnamon, Short Bread ( like a Lorna Doone ), tobacco and a strong Wild Turkey hint, Finish lingers awhile, Very enjoyable, but drink neat a drip of water, and or ice make it way too sweet for me.. Interesting.

Day 19
IMG_20210919_184214912.jpg

You want flavor bomb with strong finish! This is it! Oh man! I really love Bookers from the Jim Beam Distillery. My only gripe is how much prices have gone up over the years. As you can see this was the first release in 2019 and I think I paid $60 ish for it. So in two years they have gone up to retail of around $89. Sometimes you'll find it on sale but that's rare these days. Bookers is just all flavor. This particular release is all vanilla, peanut, almond, and the slightest hint of maple to me. It is so good! I savor this bottle because it's that good. And when it's gone it's gone.

Another fairly linear offering tonight, on the nose it is Spicy with some deep woody notes with some sweet, on the tongue and palate it is hot, dry with no oily or creamy texture at all, in fact very drying in the mouth with a bit more sweet but a strong nutmeg note. The finish in medium, very warm, and really dry with nothing left. Some say it is satiny, I dont see that at all. drank neat it is not that enjoyable, a few drips of water does nothing to change it. Chilled with an ice sphere

bulliet rocks.jpg

only makes it a cooler version with a bit better finish and more toffee notes. but the only way drinkable IMHO. Just a tad better than Hayes Parker. not a purchase at all

Day 20

IMG_20210920_200728434_HDR.jpg

Yummy! I love Rate Breed! Being from Wild Turkey. I really love it! But I must remember when tarted blind against Russells 13, JDSBBP, and ECBP521 rare breed came in last. It's also the cheapest. Not that, that means anything. But still when I see it I pick it up, I must always have a back up. I love this stuff. If you haven't tried barrel proofs this is a great one start with. It won't break the bank and if needed a little bit of water will tame it down for ya.

20. BirdDog 86P , 7.1 / 10

Birdog is a Western Spirits brand and includes Calumet, Sam Houston, and Lexington in Bourbons and some other brands in Vodka and Rum It is distilled by Bardstown Boubon Co. This is a very simple low proof sipper that uses a ton of spice to make the appearance of a higher proof. Served Neat it is Woody with mixed dried fruits on the Nose, and a hot spicy sweet feel on the tongue and palate. The finish is warm and sweet with a burnt sugar finale. A few drops of water opens it up to a more harsh heat and sweetness as if grilled fruits. IMHO this is a good sipper NEAT, not with any water or ice.

Day 21

IMG_20210921_181751257_HDR.jpg

My first go around a few weeks ago was not good. I thought I was drinking a wheat grass shake. Now after air has hit it and it's been open I still get that faintly but I am also finding some other classic bourbon notes. The finish is also very good. Still not a favorite but at least enjoyable.

20. BirdDog 86P , 7.1 / 10
21. Maker's Mark 46 9.7 / 10

Now this is some delicious stuff, as expected. A bit higher proof and a bit more oakey and hot. Drank Neat it was wonderful on the nose with wet oak, Butterscotch, toffee and some Milk Chocolate and burnt sugar. on the tongue and palate 1st flick of the tongue was very hot and spicy, but second sip opened up with much less heat and with some caramel and orange peel, maybe a bit of dried cherry. The finish was nice and oily, thick on the tongue and throat not too sweet but vanilla, and the stick of an Ice Cream bar just eaten. Very warm and long lasting finish. A few drips of water and it opens nicely, smooths out and sweetens up, a nice alternative, but preferred neat. With ice , it becomes super easy to drink, smoooooth while still retaining flavor, a bit harsher finish and more of a fruit sweet finish, still orange... the best so far of the 21 tried.

Day 22

Now I'm not normally a Jack Daniels guy. But, the single barrel barrel proof is absolutely delicious! Definitely worth picking up. This particular one is like drinking bananas foster with vanilla ice cream on top.

Another wonderful offering from Jim Beam, but quite a step up from the tired and true basic. a milder proof at 86 proof, the Nose is Sweet fruit and pecans to my palate..mouth feel is thicker but still a bit dry, sweet cream, and very little heat. The finish is mild and warm with more Pecan and cherry.. Almost a pecan pie. Good stuff

Another offering from the conglomerate that is Sazerac and Clear Springs Distillery which makes in a Total Wine Exlcusive... Thank God. It is horrible at 80 Proof it is weak, not to mention the following tasting notes. Sad really at Wolcott BiB is very good, again a Total Wine Exclusive, but worthy of the Sazerac name.... not this one

Neat: On the nose it is rubbing alcohol mixed with vanilla, Palate is not hot but, again, Rubbing alcohol and less vanilla. Finish.. you guessed it Rubbing alcohol and less vanilla and short lived
Water: Opens up to more vanilla and rubbing alcohol.. as for the rest the same only more vanilla
On ice: You Guessed it Vanilla and Rubbing alcohol..... but cold This is the most linear whisky I have ever tried.. Boooorrrrring.
