Forgot to update this last night. At a friends home they were nice enough to have this pour ready for me, so I can only evaluate on ice, but it was very good, smooth, not to sweet. Definately one I would want to try neat

Day 26

IMG_20210926_153426988_HDR.jpgIMG_20210926_161353_01.jpgIMG_20210926_174931571_HDR.jpg

Well today was a nice Sunday. Although it did create the perfect storm. But first the Belle Meade absolutely delicious! Strong vanilla and caramel on the nose. Then you on the palate it's like eating a caramel apple all sweet! So yummy! This bourbon could be dangerous at the lower proof of 90.4. The finish is where the baking spices hit for a long finish. This is good juice!

Now the cigar a gift from @BarberDave a Pappy cigar I think nicuraguan, now I haven't had a cigar in almost 3 years. And having one while drinking bourbon in 90 degree hit on an empty stomach from fasting as I do on Sundays. Oh boy it hit! Then I got the last quarter of the stick and needless to say sucked that down bad move bud! Cigars need to enjoyed not inhaled. Thankfully dinner was ready and I began to recover. Great evening with friends.

The last in the Jim Beam Selection for the month and the best so far. on the Nose it is minty, Oakey, some sweetness and popcorn. On the palate honey and Vanilla and some heat, but smooth, the finish was short with orange and a ton of wood. Short but nice the best one of the Beams yet

This is another mystery bourbon. On the nose to me it is a bit of rubbing alcohol and over ripe banana with a tad of orange.
NEAT: very plain with a hint of that banana, chew is ok, but mostly oak, oak oak, with maybe a hint of fruit, and a pretty large alcohol kick, Finish is even more of an adventure and the only one to make me cough when it finished

With water: Same but now it becomes a banana kool aid with a Acetylene finish and very dry

On Ice: Banana Flavored Rubbing Alcohol

Horrible and the only one I threw out YUK!!

Once you take price into consideration this is a perfect 10. It's that simple. This is absolutely delicious! I always recommend Evan Williams there is a lot to explore under that label and the bottled in bond is my favorite. Always have a bottle on hand. Although once compared to some of the heavy hitters it gets a solid 7.5/10

28. Black Eagle 80P 6/10

Another unknown maker and appears to be another house brand. Very fruity on the nose and the palate is very light with minimal heat. More fruit notes and on the finish short but creamy a very nice sipper

OK, first, anyone who hates on Evan Williams White Label needs to be flogged. Even the Whiskey Tribe knows this is great bourbon, especially for the price.

Second, you better not sleep on Fistful of Bourbon.

Day 29

IMG_20210929_190645663_HDR.jpg

This is a local company to Utah that is making their own bourbon not sourcing it. Using all local ingredients. Some of their other spirits are really good. This bourbon though is just really really young. It needs more age. They need to keep it in the barrel longer in my opinion. They don't say how long they are but I'm assuming.12-24 months is all. It's just very grain forward and no flavors from barrel really. I'll follow this brand closely and hope for longer ages bourbon one day.

Not taking any chances for the last two days, so they will be mixed drinks Tonight a Kentucky Mule, the bourbon tastes ok in the drink.... Winchester is ok for this, don't know if it is good neat, water, or rocks. Really don't care, and THANK GOD this is over tomorrow, get back to a refined Whisky, LOL

So I didn't keep up with Chad and Dave, but I did try some things. Courtesy of my lovely wife of course. I had intended to post these same day but forgot to.

This one was interesting. Not bad but not great.
20210911_170253.jpg

This one is really tasty. Tried it side by side with some standard JB and this is much smoother and more interesting in flavor.
20210912_183401.jpg

This one is way to sweet for me. Will make for a fantastic bourbon chicken sauce though.
20210913_193850.jpg

This one was a birthday gift from the wife and it is fantastic. Does not taste like it is this high proof but lots of flavor and super smooth.

30 Little Book Chapter 5 Limited Edition 118.6P 9.9/10

Funny how the stars align sometimes. I was fully expecting to end my bourbon purgatory on a low note with some rot gut from the remaining "airline bottle" stash. As luck would have it, and having made friends with the Wine and Liquor Steward at the Local Safeway, I received a call. Also as luck would have it, I was between customers and actually answered the phone. i was told about this being 1 or only 3 bottles in the city, and was given the price. I call my Bourbon Aficionado ( @CVargo ), explained what it was, and was recommended to got out on a high note, and since it was from the BEAM Distilleries, I would most definitely like it... A BIG understatement as this was the absolute best of the 30-days. I would have given in a 10, but there is always room for improvement so a 9.9 was the score.

As stated a Beam Family Limited Edition, from 8th Generation Distiller Freddie Noe, Grandaddy Booker gave him the name "Little Book" and each yeat he hand selects barrels of 2yr, 3, yr, 5 yr, and 15 year and created a limited Edition each year. For 2021, the 5th Chapter "The Invitation" was created at a whopping 118.6 Proof ( 58.3 ABV ).

Neat: On the Nose it is wonderful with notes of Oak, Butterscotch, and Oak, Palate is Hot, but smooth with Caramel Toasted Bread, and some vanilla sweetness. The finish is very warm, long and oily, but again, super smooth. It should be also noted that it tears very well on the glass.

Water Added: More sweetness is brought out and tames it a bit with some subtle fruit that comes out with a bit more nuttiness. Still good

On Ice ( NA ) As I would not want to ruin this one. It is about as close to perfect to me as it gets. This is My Dalmore Cigar Malt of Bourbons!

Finally a Big THANKS to all who followed and especially to my 2nd son @CVargo for talking me into this crazy month long journey. I joked, but it was enjoyable, I am STILL and ALWAYS will be a Scotch guy, but I have a much larger appreciation for bourbons, and can shed that "Jack Daniels" perception I have always have

Thanks for coming along for the journey!
