This being a limited release is absolutely delicious. Flavors of cherry, strawberry, and then the finish is vanilla coke. Love this stuff! Easy sipper at 110 proof. If you see one buy one.

Day 12

IMG_20210912_184711671.jpg

This is an interesting offering from Jim Beam. I like a lot from Beam but this to me has always come across harsh. And maybe it's the new glass from Dave or maybe it's just opened up but today it tastes like I'm eating a box of Cracker Jack. Carmel popcorn with peanuts. So yummy. But the alcohol does get ya and it's not a good burn always.

12 Woodford Reserve 7.0 / 10

1st go round with WF, not bad with nose of dried blueberry's and some sugar, taste is a bit hot with Toffee and some Milk Chocolate I think, and the finish is warm, creamy with some orange, sweet and woody long heat finish, pretty good. Long warm finish, but for me not a buy

11. Elijah Craig Small Batch 8.7 / 10
12. Woodford Reserve 7.0 / 10
13. Clyde May 92p 5yr 6.4 / 10

Indiana born and bred this 5yr 92 proof is interesting at best the nose is apple ( which they are known for in their Alabama Whiskey) and strawberry with under tones of Molasses and sugar. On the tongue and palate baking spices and what cam be decribed as strawberry pie, with some of the alcohol heat making itself known. The finish is smooth with less heat and more spices. Has a long finish in the throat with some burn. I added a few drops of water and it opened up a bit, although still fairly linear. A few ice cubes really brought our the flavors, but weakened the finish. Just OK for me.

Day 13

IMG_20210913_203456511.jpg

The 1792 family of bourbons I enjoy but I really have to be in the mood for them. This single barrel even more so. While good and I respect what's in it. It just throws me off. On the nose it's all lemon, pineapple, and the slight hint of cherry. Then on the palate and finish it's all baking spices particularly cinnamon.

List:
1st: Old Grand Dad Bottled in Bond 6/10

An SC based distillery that feels non-aging is a good thing.... well if you want a linear non-exciting bourbon. Nose is all Sweet Fruits and Sugar, nothing more to me, the palate is sweet with a light bit of heat and the finish is short on flavor with Cinnamon Roll and Banana which fades quickly. Not surprising considering the label states 86 proof but all the research I have found say 90 which I doubt, but at 11.99 a bottle good for just about nothing. Meh!, glad I only bought the Airline size, removing it out of plastic did no good.. Most would probably say this is the Lilac Veg of bourbons, but not as good as the veg

When it comes budget friendly 10 year old bourbon this is the real deal. Although being from buffalo trace don't pay the secondary prices. Yes it's good, delicious! But it's not that top tier to me. But I'll always have a bottle. I wish it was readily available because it would be my daily sipper.

CJ Spirits – Graveyard Sam’s Baby Bourbon

This is from a local distiller about a 30 minutes away from me. It is very young and I hate to be negative but.... you know the hand sanitizer that many distilleries were pumping out early in the pandemic to help the short supply? Well that is what this smells like and it kind of tastes like what I imagine that sanitizer would taste like. Very sharp alcohol smell and taste. I may revisit this brand in a few years just to see what it is like with some age on it, but for now it is a hard pass. Thankfully I only bought a tiny airplane size bottle. Some of there other spirits are quite tasty though.

List:
1. Knob Creek Single Barrel Reserve 9 year, 120 proof 8/10.
2. Elijah Craig Small Batch 94 proof, 6/10.
3. Woodford Reserve Distillers Select 90.4 proof 7/10
4. No Bourbon – Went out with Wife and hit a couple local Craft Breweries. Why on earth are these places still making so many IPA’s 🤢 🤮🤢🤮.
5. No entry - Played poker at Brother in Laws and drank Knob Creek Single Barrel Reserve 9 year again, cause it's delicious.
6. Wild Turkey 101. 7/10
7. NA
8. Coopers Craft 82.2 Proof 5/10

So the company put hand sanitizer in a barrel to recoup money?

Also whatever that NA bourbon is you must share! That's a lot days in a row! 😉

Day 15

IMG_20210915_191111033_HDR.jpg

This bottle has opened up into an absolutely amazing drink. It's so good, deep, and the finish is fantastic. This is what bourbon is supposed to taste like. Quickly becoming one of my favorites. But it's allocated, hard to find, and this is my only bottle. So just a little at a time until I can score a back up.

Drank Neat: Another Bourbon from the house of Heaven Hill, and another that plays like it has a higher proof. not quite as sweet and the EJCSB, and a bigger Alcohol hit. On the nose I get butterscotch, Toffee and some baking spices. On the palate, a nice alcohol hit that travels nasally, Some pepper, Butter, and Caramel. The finish is not too sweet, very dry, but a warm finish for a nice long time. It edged out EJCSB, but falls well short of the EJCBP, but again acts much more than its 92 Proof. Very nice, and fantastic compared to last nights rot gut, LOL

Wow just wow, and this the basic, if the rest are like this, we may have a winner, so far my top rated. On the Nose, I get a oak note, along with some vanilla and of all things wheat thins...Yes the cracker. On the palate and tongue, a fair amount of heat, but very smooth and creamy with some fruit and spice. It is sweet, but not too sweet and balances the punch of heat, a bit oily to me. The finish is very smooth and warm and lingers quite well all the way down, with hints of caramel and a really smooth trip down the gullet. A big Winner for me, and perfect with the Rocky Patel
