Happy 4th of July to all my fellow Canadians!

What makes this day so great? It's a Thursday, which means that it's only one day away from Friday and the start of the weekend! This is twice as good as if it was a Wednesday!

My friends south of the border are more than welcome to join us in celebrating this Thursday of summer! Canadians welcome all with open arms to our festivities!

No bridge for me today as my wife came down with a cold and I have the start of a scratchy throat, which is how she started. In light of the age of my fellow bridge players, I decided to stay home and have a doubly good meh-ilicious shave this afternoon instead.
 
And what about the curious pause after this latest post? Did Sam overdo it on the Poutine again? Does Same have a Poutine Problem? If so, he’d better hustle over to the nearest PPAnonymous meeting, pronto!
 
Well, not too much has gone on recently, but here's a quick recap .....

Plums .... Squirrels love to take a bite and then throw them on the ground. I was probably picking up 4-6 quarts every morning for compost. Thankfully, there were enough on the tree for both rodents and humans. The tree is almost empty now, so the morning "Cleanup on Walkway 1" call doesn't ring out through the supermarket yard any more.

Shaving .... Whisker removal happening daily. *yawn*

Chess ... Life goes on .... and so do the games.

Laundry ... It's Sunday!

Summer is winding down and that can only mean September is nigh. Which in turn means that it's almost cruise time as we set off on an Alaskan adventure from Seattle in just over a week to celebrate my wifey's BDay and the 27th anniversary of our 1st date, which both occur while we're on the water. We normally go Royal, but wifey bumped us to to Celebrity (1st time for us) for this one.
 
Good to have you back Sam that cruise on celebrity is nice. We did that a few times.
 
The Alaskan cruise was very much enjoyed by my wife, but growing up in Newfoundland where bears, whales, icebergs and the Northern Lights are in abundance, the trip didn't live up to the hype for me. Especially with the Northern Lights.

The speakers on the ship said we should use our phones to see the lights as they're not normally visible to the naked eye. Well, we didn't have iPhones when I was a kid and we did just fine with the shimmering curtains of greens, oranges, and reds. When we were woken up at 1:30am by an announcement that they were visible, my wife rapidly got dressed (I wore clothes on deck as well) and nothing was visible to me. Through the iPhone, there was a light smudge visible and people were ooo-ing and ahhh-ing at their screens. Nice to see them impressed but we quickly went back to the room.

Given a choice, I'll stick with Caribbean and Eupoean vacations from here on out.

Glad your wife enjoyed the experience. As a kid living in SE Alaska on Prince Wm Sound, I also saw northern lights just fine without benefit of an iPhone. Onward to warmer climes! 👍
 
After being stationed there for many years I witnessed them a lot. Sorry the conditioned were not perfect for you
 
It was that conditions were not perfect. It was that the speakers overhyped them to the extreme, saying that this is some of the best viewing of Northern Lights possible and they rarely get this good .. but you have to use your camera to see them. Total over the top upselling to those that don't know any better.
But ... whatchagonna do? 🤷‍♂️
