The wonderful excesses of acquisition disorders...and wet shaving

Thanks Chris...it's a very nice lather, but there are better in my den. The scents are wonderful, however.

This statement may or may not be considered by one of the owners to be heresy. The SV soaps are among the Elite in my den joined by LNHC's new soaps and A&E. I have not yet had the pleasure of trying any of the Declaration lines other than the old L&L, or the Wholly Kaw Donkey milk formula though.

Glad you got in a semi decent shave and a little personal time.

Hope the day turns out well!

Thanks Chris! Nothing that couldn't be handled, that's for sure.

Good read Josh and will look for video later as I have an earlier day today. Have a good one !

Thanks Dave, you too!

Great stuff Josh. I have the video queued up and ready to go!

Thanks Chad!

LOL...it's well known by him that SV just hasn't performed for me on the whole as good as others. If there's a scent that tickles your fancy by either of those, DG or WK, you should pick up a tub and check them out! (the old L&L formula, bison tallow, hasn't changed when they became Declaration Grooming; but the new Icarus base is even better!)

Glad things are settling down on the work front, Josh. Nice photo and set up. I used one of the new Lisa's soaps today as well.

Nah. Consider this, they all like the Veg, and one thinks that a certain SV smells like tumbleweed. So you have to take that into account.

I've also never tried the VEG. And the one i was referring to is learning to be a barber and probably won't ever catch up enough to read the post so we really have no fear that a banning may occur due to said "heresy"

Lisa’s Natural Herbal Creations Artisan Shaving Soap Smoked Black Tea | Timeless Bronze OC | Persona Platinum (3)
Currently on Shave #587 | Straight shave still at #362

Next up from Lisa’s new soaps is Smoked Black Tea. This scent isn’t exactly in my wheelhouse, but I can say that I did enjoy it all the same. The cade, which gives the smokey notes to it, is very prominent throughout; both from the tub and once lathered. I did get periodic hits of citrus, and the tea is there for the duration, but they all play second fiddle to the cade. Quite a nice scent overall, but as stated, not exactly what I usually go for.

I opted for the Timeless this morning, and did a quick three passes with a small amount of touch-up on the neck, resulting in a nice DFS+ with no feedback from the alum. The lather was much better than yesterday’s outing, I can tell you that much. I paired the Ghost Town Barber by CFG, both in aftershave and EdP with it, the gunpowder, leather and smoke infused barbershop playing well with Smoked Black Tea.

Tomorrow is another scent in Lisa’s new soap base, with a badger brush this time, and on Monday’s video, I’ll give my final rating of the new soap base. Hope everyone’s long weekend goes well!

Thanks for reading, have a great Saturday!

Thanks Dave! Hopefully Ron at the Groomatorium is able go get everything set up in OH soon and re-open his site for orders so you can get on it!

Yeh, this smoked black tea isn't really in my wheelhouse either. I've done several test lathers, and now that I've gotten into the tub more, the smoke aspect has pretty much disappeared leaving mostly the black tea note. I'll actually be using it shortly.

I definitely get that the scent of Smoked Black Tea isn't for everyone. I personally like it. I am anxious to see what your final ratings will be!

Interesting...I might have to do that and revisit the soap at a later date. Won't be for a little bit, however, since I have so many lined up in the queue at the moment.

It wasn't that I didn't like it...it was just outside what I normally go for. It's definitely going to have a place in my den, just like GTB will; another that isn't in my normal wheelhouse, but will have a spot.

Mmm smokey! Good thoughts, looking forward to the final rating!
Thanks Chris!

Lisa’s Natural Herbal Creations Artisan Shaving Soap Coconut Oud | Filarmonica Doble Temple 14 8/8”
Currently on Shave #588 | Straight shave #363

Interesting morning…was actually really happy with the way the videography was going. Until I realized that I had run out of space (after the fact) on my SD card and 70% of the lathering portion of the video was lost…from the main camera at least. Along with that, my thoughts on the scent and strength of scent. I’ve spoken before about how much I enjoy this scent, and it’s no different with the new soap base. I did get a little bit of a funk, but it went away fairly quick once exposed to air. I think letting the soap air out once one receives it would rectify this to where it’s not a concern at all.

I’ve decided to fore go any rotation in my straights, and just grabbed what I wanted to use, which this morning happened to be the big Fili. This is such a great shaver for being such a large blade. It really doesn’t feel as big as it is, (it’s larger than my Stark 7/8” smiler), and the edge Alfredo put on it is just beyond reproach. I was able to get the lather even more dialed in today, and though I did sacrifice a little bit of cushion, the resultant slickness and residual slickness were outstanding. Three passes, DFS+, only a tiny bit of feedback from the alum, and I was happy. I topped off with some Wholly Kaw King of Oud aftershave, and a couple of vasili’s (from a distance) of Bond No. 9 NY Oud to finish. YES!

Thanks for reading, have a blessed Sunday!

Nice shave Josh ! Love the DT 14 and while watching the video I was just saying in my head wow, look at the sheen on that soap. Immediately after that thought you point it out too. It's a great base for sure. May have to try the Coconut Oud scent as it has a following on the Cadre.

COCONUT OUD is the...sorry...this is a family friendly place...almost forgot. But that scent is really AWESOME!

Good stuff! I’ve run out of space a couple of times while filming, it kinda stinks that there’s no warning messages on the iPhone.

Gonna pop over and watch the vid now!
