Iced Pineapple - yesssssss!

And a Friodur has been on my want list for a while. Glad to hear that is living up to your expectations.

Thanks Chris! I'll say, if you find one in great condition, it's worthwhile as long as they aren't trying to gouge, which unfortunately is becoming more and more common.

Great read, shave, and picture Josh!

Glad the razor is to your liking!

Thanks Craig!

Proraso Single Edge Azur Lime | Friodur 472 6/8” square point
Currently on Shave #506 | Straight shave #304

The shave yesterday didn’t last quite as long as I thought it would, or seemingly didn’t, so I decided to make it a quick 2-pass shave this morning. That worked, as I have a couple of soaps that I need to get through in the Oleo Soapworks and Proraso Single Edge Azure Lime. I decided to go with the Proraso this morning, keeping the same blade out, the Friodur.

The cream started off very airy, but eventually settled into a beautifully thick and surprisingly slick lather. This will honestly compete with Castle Forbes for elite cream in the den…and based off of this use, might be better. I might have to do a comparison shave with the two soon. What I will say for CF is the scent doesn’t change through the shave, staying a pure lime scent, while Proraso’s scent fades once lathered and you get the clean, soap base scent.

Nothing exciting to report on the shave, 2-passes WTG/XTG and no clean-up, ending DFS, which I’m completely fine with. Since I didn’t really go ATG, (a couple of places on my XTG pass are more of a hybrid due to how my beard grows), there wasn’t any feedback from the alum or aftershave. Topped off with the Fine American Blend EdP, and it’s a clean smelling day today!

I did go ahead and video the shave this morning, just as a trial run and to see what kind of memory I’m going to be using up. Outside of the pre-shave stropping, I videoed the entire shave, up till the aftershave and EdP application, ending at just short of 20 minutes. I don’t have a computer to do the rendering or editing, so everything would need to be done through a mobile application, which I have to read up on. The size of the file is where I’m running into issues, as it is 2.4G, (this is before any rendering), much too large for me to try to upload. The free app that I downloaded will allow me to splice videos together, so I might just try and shoot for a 5 minute video review of products with just as single pass. I also need to work on my audio and video clarity…work in progress.

Purchased the first part of my birthday gift last night…with the 2[sup]nd[/sup] part up in the air for another day or three. We’ll see…

Have a great day everyone!

Great shave Josh! What was the first half of the gift?

They're both shaving related, so I'm going to wait until they come in to post about them. The second half was ordered today, but won't arrive until after my birthday in early July, in all likelyhood. One's from Germany, and the other one is having to be routed through the littlest state.

Cool, looking forward to seeing!

Agreed that the Single Blade Proraso is a great cream!

Sunday, 27 May, 2018: No shave today!

Quick entry today, as there was no shave. I was doing some work on some of the video stuff, and think I figured a few things out that will make the videos a bit more “watchable”. I changed the placement of the camera/phone, as well as orientation so that I’m using the better camera. I also picked up a $5 mirror placed just below the camera so I can shave facing the camera. I’m not planning on doing too many long videos, mainly product reviews and 1-pass with the soap as I talk through the performance. If any of you watch YT wet shaving videos, it will be very similar in set-up to Ruds Shaves. We’ll see how it ends up, as I plan on filming tomorrows shave and uploading it.

While I was going through and trouble-shooting some things with the phone/camera, the microphone went out. While I was in the midst of trying to figure out what the heck happened, I inadvertently took a couple of snaps…some of which caught me in the state of apoplexy. One was particularly good and will be included in the video.

Mail did come in today. I got two packages, one of which I don’t have a picture for, but is three straight razor stands. The other package included some aftershave balm to match the Oleo soaps I received the other day, as well as a couple new hair products from Nostalgic grooming, one a pomade, one a paste. The first is the same water based medium pomade that I have the Ghost Town Barber scent in, so I know what I’m getting performance wise. The scent, however is quite unique. It’s called “Fruit Scoops” and it’s modeled after the cereal of the similar name. I will say, it’s more accurate than I would have thought, smelling not just like the citrus scent of the cereal, but add in the sugar coating as well as the smell of the cereal itself. Quite uncanny, to be honest. The other product is called Moon Paste, and it’s a medium hold, water-based paste with a scent they’re calling Cosmic Cologne. It’s very light off of the tub, but is quite nice and will go with a variety of different scent profiles.

I hope everyone is having a great Sunday and long weekend! Let the summer fun begin!

How is the FAB EdT? I have some of this coming and I am very interested. Does it smell like the AS? Is it weak or strong? Long Lasting? Worth the $25?

You'll be extremely pleased withe EdP version of it. It smells just like the aftershave, (or rather, just like YSL Rive Gauche), and longevity is about 6-8 hours on my skin before it's gone. For $25, that's an absolute steal considering YSL Rive Gauche is going for well over $100.

Oleo Soapworks Melonade | C.V. Heljestrand Mk*31
Currently on Shave #507 | Straight shave #305

Before I get into the shave, I want to wish everyone a very happy Memorial Day. It’s a somber day for us out here, as many of us have had our lives touched by those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. If I could have a beer, there would be toasts to those great Americans.

The shave this morning…was a good one. It wasn’t the perfect shave, but I’ll go into that a little later. If it hasn’t posted yet, there will be a video review of the soap with one pass filmed, as well as a full written review in the reviews section. I did a bit more post-production on it and it looks much better than the previous video.

So, Oleo Soapworks Melonade was on deck today, as the Watermelon and Lemonade scent, (which smells eerily like a watermelon Jolly Rancher), reminds me of Memorial Day picnics with the family. I paired the C.V. Heljestrand Mk*31 and Razorock R400 24mm synthetic, two solid performers that would give me a good baseline to just judge the soap.

Not to get into the review of the soap here, but it did perform well, and after three passes and a clean-up, I’m sitting at a very nice DSBBS. I topped off with the matching aftershave balm and some Penhaligon’s Juniper Sling. (I don’t have a watermelon Jolly Rancher scented frag lying around)

Not much new going on out here, as can be expected with it being Groundhog Day. I will say the weather has normalized, and the 100 days of wind has started. That just means that we walk out basically into a hair dryer everytime we go outside for the next 2+ months. It normally starts in the beginning of May, but that typhoon out in the Gulf of Oman really threw everything into flux out here.

Have a great Memorial Day, everyone!
