The wonderful excesses of acquisition disorders...and wet shaving

Great mail calls. I have several Lamy fountain pens. They are good tools. I prefer the Fine nib to the Medium, however.

Also, your journal is having display problems for me. Perhaps this is some remnant of the messed up code push earlier this month? Just wanted to bring it up so the owners can look into it.

Thanks Doug! I debated going with the fine, but wasn't sure. So went with the medium for now. I can always upgrade later on.

The owners are aware and are looking into it! Thanks!

That is one of the best things about Lamy pens, that the nibs are easily replaced.

....I do know that I'm sticking with cartridge fountain pens for the time being.

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight...........

The Lamy converters for the Safari line are quite nice and are a cheap way to expand your ink options.

I really like the Iroshizuku inks from Pilot.

The Holy Black Lavender Creeper | Feather SS Kamisori | Feather Pro-Guard (2)
Currently on Shave #504 | Straight shave #302

Ever since I saw this soap the first time around, I was innately curious about it. When Jim, @Wildwest74, announced that it was going to be released again and was kind enough to get me a tub, I did a bit more searching and got a good idea on what I was getting into with this soap. Lavender Creeper, by The Holy Black, is first and foremost, a lavender soap, and it’s a wonderful lavender scent that they’ve been able to develop. Packaging is top tier, using a similar ceramic jar to what you find in Mitchel’s Wool Fat, though a bit smaller in circumference. The smell out of the tub is somewhat lighter, maybe a 2/5, but since it’s a pretty bright lavender, much more would have been overwhelming. It’s just on the hard side of a croap, so not hard like a triple milled, but not soft like Declaration Grooming.

I grabbed one of my synthetics, this morning the Wolf Whiskers Blackwolf Americana, as they give a more consistent lather. Loading took a little longer than I was expecting, about 40 seconds or so, but the lather created was a great consistency, similar to Wholly Kaw (non-donkey milk), Fine and Stirling. The difference came during the shave…this FAR out performs all three of those soaps. The residual slickness is actually better than Declaration Grooming, WK dm formula, and A&E…which shocked me. Cushion, moisturizing, slickness…all phenomenal. The cooling agent was quite nice, and since there wasn’t any menthol smell, there was nothing to get in the way of the lavender scent. The cooling built through the shave, and by the end it almost felt like I was shaving with Cryogen…granted, on the first pass.

The Feather SS skated over my face again this morning and after three passes (shaving with a Kami is becoming even more comfortable), and a little clean up with the ‘jectah, I walked away DSBBS…’nary a whisker to be found. I did apparently catch a bump on the ATG pass with the feather on my left cheek that left a spot, but outside of that, no red Charlie. Feedback from the alum and aftershave were minimal, the Lavender Pour Homme matching quite well with the Lavender Creeper.

One note about the soap…when I was lathering up, I did what I normally do and just lather right over my (closed) mouth. I wouldn’t recommend this with this soap. Tuck your lips, unless you like them getting nice and cold really quick. It was an interesting sensation.

Have a great day everyone!

Awesome looking set-up and review, Josh! One of these days I hope to score some of that soap.

Good stuff Josh.

And my next nib purchase will be a TWSBI demonstrator.

Which one? 580, 700, Eco, Mini? I've got a few Eco's (some with a medium nib, and one with a broad) and a 700 (medium nib). I really like them. They're nothing fancy, but I definitely dig the filling mechanism, and they are VERY economical. The nibs are Jowo stainless nibs, IIRC. I've tuned mine up a bit for smoother writing, but they're nice pens and I recommend them as starter pens, or for any reason, really.

Good Stuff Josh the LC is definitely an interesting take on Lavender. Simply the best
