The TSC Coffee Shop

For me the edge goes to the OXO for better overall taste and ease of use/clean up. However, I use the AP (XL version) during the week in order to make enough coffee for my YETI 20oz. travel mug for work. I also keep an AP at work for the occasional mid afternoon cuppa.

Do you think you can add a paper filter so you don't need to rinse the grinds out of the metal disk? I don't have a sink in my office so the AP is a simple swipe with a paper towel clean up.

Not sure.. Haven't tried it but will next time I brew with it. The AP filters seem like they'd fit.

Brewed with the OXO yesterday and though slightly larger, the AP filters will work in it. Clean up was simple, just shook the spent grounds/filter in the trash and a quick wipe with a paper towel after was all it took.

Yeah I bought the AP filter papers for the OXO. Slightly oversized but doable. Does keep it tidy.

I also have 58 mm filter paper for my espresso machine. It is slightly smaller so won’t have total coverage.

Either way, both make easy clean up and a quick rinse in the bathroom and you are good to go.

On another side note, I have enjoyed using the Turin H63 hand grinder for my coffee. The manual aspect reminds me of straight shaving and keeping things simple and “back to basics”.

Normally I'm not a fan of flavored coffees. Whatever taste notes there are, I prefer them to be a result of the the natural cherry, roasting process and chemical reactions to water temp and extraction time. Gotta say I've been surprised by this coffee. The wife picked it up at the local Fresh Market and I've put off trying it. It smells wonderful, actually filling up the kitchen with notes of clove and cinnamon! Broke down and brewed some this morning and honestly, it's not bad at all! Not something that I'd drink every day, but once in a while during the holiday seasons would be nice.

Maiden voyage of the Normcore V2 hand grinder with flat burr on my Hario v60 setup including new scale. Got lucky and hit pretty much right number of clicks to get a pretty balanced cup .
Red berry note definitely present right of the bat along with a slight Carmel in the background. Hazelnut barely shows up as it cools down. Gonna grind a tad coarser tomorrow to see if it will brighten up those flavors even more. Sweet notes definitely more pronounced and separated compared to my Saint Anthony Milwright hand grinder with conical burrs. Would definitely buy this coffee again. Heck! Gonna pick another bag up on the way home if any left. Roast date on bag is December 15 2025!😎cool, fresh and rested about enough time

We're just hours away from Mark's coffee break. Will today's cup be location based? Will it be from a movie? Just decorative? We'll all find out soon!

Ooooh the coffee thread. I should take a gander here for tips and niche coffee discovery.

I'm not a big snob or coffee connoisseur but I just enjoy good coffee in general. What my goal is to just learn how to enjoy coffee more and build my palette for black coffee. I wonder about how the cup material affects the taste just as much as the type of water and brewing method, lol.

I'm sure I'll get poked at but I do enjoy Black Rifle coffee. Yes, they're not the most prestigious or high quality, and they can be over priced, but I support their company message for the vets. I get it because my job sells their coffee and I get a good discount, and I can admit they're at least consistent in their quality and you could actually taste the damn coffee.

My mom drinks instant and nescafe, and my grandfather somehow likes folgers, so my bar isn't very high for what I consider above average coffee. I'll be sure to lurk here often and who knows, I might pick up some tools of the trade.

Went through this myself. Did a couple of videos a while back. I ordered the same beans but roasted to different levels. Learned what roast level I prefer, temp of water (drinking too hot destroys flavors), and that I like paper filters over metal.
