The Heysi Missive

What's that feeling you get when nothing is happening in the middle of 900 things happening? That's where I am right now. It's like the calm before the storm but not in a bad way... just so much is about to happen and a whole bunch just happened but right now.....nothing.

Got to go to a Vegas Golden Knights game last night. Beat the hated Sharks and my brother got to ride the zamboni. Also bought myself tickets to see Duran Duran in vegas later this summer. To have a $90 ticket end up as a $140 ticket because of every imaginable fee under the sun was amusing and aggravating at the same time.

Shaving journal:

I've really been enjoying this minimalist shaving challenge. Discovered yesterday that after wiping the puck against my wet face.....with almost no soap visible on my face.....I only need to add a drop of water to my hand and I can do a quick hand lather to the immediate area that I'm about to shave. Its so simple. I'm beginning to think that I could get a year or more shaves out of a single puck.

I'm still unsure why the Nivea 2:1 isn't available in the US. Its such a great product. So soothing. There must be endangered butterfly tears in the ingredients. Either that or radium 88. But with only using 3 drops a day....I may not need to buy a new bottle for about 2 years.

See ya Later!

Yeah, it is good stuff. I'm using something else before I dip into mine, though I've sampled it for a couple of shaves. It is curious why it's not sold in the U.S.

Hopefully the storm is a storm of good things? Though I’m getting the vibe it’s not. 😂

Ok....so the wife and I stopped to get Taco Bell (not our usual to-go go-to...but we won free tacos at the hockey game last night). While we were waiting for our order, a homeless man came in to the store. He wandered about for a minute or two and then suddenly swung a high leg kick in the direction of another customer standing about 15 feet away from me (he missed). The customer said, "whoa...what was that?". The homeless guy walked to the far end of the seating area and the customer returned to looking at his phone. I got a strange feeling and kept my eye on the homeless guy. Suddenly he picked up a chair and started to go straight for the customer (who had his back turned at this point) chair raised above his head. I immediately stepped forward and said, "no, no, no, Hey! don't do that", which, strangely, stopped the homeless guy in his tracks. He put the chair down and tried to act like nothing was happening. I told him to "get out!" And he left. Now those of you that have met me know that I'm not in any way intimidating and I didn't think of myself as the kind of person that would get involved...but if I hadn't said anything (or even been there) I'm certain that the customer would have taken a chair to the back of the head (and in front of his two sons). My wife called the police (who didn't show up) and I watched to see that he left the immediate area. The customer thanked me for having his back. Not the kind of evening I was expecting to have.

A few thoughts.

1) Thanks Steven @heysi for using your inner Jedi to keep the peace. You did a great thing stepping up and getting a nonviolent outcome out of the situation.

2) Mental health issues are real and pose a threat to the people who suffer and those around them, yet these services are often something that goes quickly from any municipal budget leaving ordinary people and (especially) law enforcement officers to deal with them. This is at best unfair to everyone involved and at worst fatal to the public or the sufferer.

3) What the heck! To the dude who almost gets kicked then goes right back to being on his phone! Wouldn’t you want to keep your head up and have a little situational awareness!?! I mean come on man; if that chair catches you unawares that second time, that’s a little on you dude.
