The Heysi Missive

The official high temp here in Vegas is measured at the airport.....which is usually 3-5 degrees lower than my house. So it will be 116F on my porch when I get home.

I was born in southern california and lived there for 30+ years so I learned to drive on LA freeways. So when ever there was a car chase in LA....it became must watch television. And since moving to Vegas....that hasn't changed. My wife has all three major LA tv channel apps on her phone and she has the notifications turned on for when there's a police chase. Last night was one of those nights when there was a notification and since we were headed off to bed, I dialed the channel up on the old roku tv and we started watching some fool run from the west covina police. For an hour! He was wanted for rape and domestic violence so the police didn't want to let him get away. Several times they attempted to do a PIT maneuver and the guy was able to recover and drive away but finally they pinned his car against some poor souls parked car and then they set up a stand-off with the fool. Then something happened that has never occurred before....another police chase came rushing through the immediate area and all of the tv news helicopters abandoned the original chase/stand-off and started following the second car chase. This one was a stolen car with 4 people inside and at one point the car pulled into a parking lot and all of the passengers jumped out and ran in every direction while the driver took off again. That chase was a bit more crazy as the driver was running every light he encountered and was going well over 70 mph on surface streets so the LA county sheriff eventually backed off and let him go. And the first guy eventually gave up after refusing to get out of his car for 3 hours!!!! Never a dull moment on LA freeways.

Not enough entertainment in Vegas? You clearly need Rich back!

Our house is usually about 5 degrees cooler than the posted temp, most likely because of all of the surrounding trees. They make for a pleasant oasis. I was down in N Carolina last week. 100F/38C in NC definitely is more uncomfortable to me than 110F/43C in Vegas.

i'd like to go out and make the police chase me only my car broke down on July 1st, with impeccable timing for the holiday weekend, and HRH in it in the next town to my workplace. In a Starbucks. From where i had it towed. i'm pretty sure i could have got wasted in a bar on what 4 coffees cost.
The dealer has had the car ever since. Maybe get it back this week.
In the meantime i bought HRH an SUV she liked and have had to commandeer that for work. It's not fully armored yet and it needs to be with the road rage that people exhibit here, but it's a start.
The sabre toothed cats i have only guard my home as they make rather a mess in the car. And then the vet does too, when they go there.

Had some interesting times the past two weeks.

Celebrated the wife's birthday and won the birthday present game....got her tickets to see Elton John here in Las Vegas later this year.

Watched my Dodgers go on an 8 game win streak, including a sweep over the hated Giants (sorry @NurseDave and @GearNoir ). Its a 132 year rivalry....the longest in baseball and it brings out the best in both teams (sometimes the worst in the fans).

Spoke to an ex girlfriend on the phone the other day. We haven't talked in nearly 30 years. We were really good friends before we dated and while the break wasn't amicable (she dumped me), there wasn't any hard feelings between us when it ended. Time and family and such get in the way and connections get lost and so forth but the mysteries of the internet can bring people back together after so much time. It was a really nice call and we caught up and had a few laughs. The plan is to keep in touch and it was nice to know that we're still good friends all these years later.

Todays shave journal:

It was a RustBoy morning and that's always a terrific shave. Still getting nice, smooth shaves out of the current Gillette Silver Blue. Its now on shave #35 and it shows no sign of giving up. I fear I have thrown out so many blades over the past 40 years that were just coming into their own. What a waste.

Williams shave soap is always sweet. And after seeing the lather that @Luecke3262 got on his zoom shave last night....I felt kinda guilty getting that smooth, creamy, everlasting lather that was pefect for the entire shave.

Got to use my Nivea 2:1 aftershave for the second time. Its as good as I had heard (thank you @BarberDave and his amigo, Nurse Dave). And the KA-POW!! really works. I am still a bit peeved that it took a full month to get delivered from Germany. I'm not sure what kind of mail system they use over there but it was slow. Once it arrived in Los Angeles, it was only 2 days to Vegas, which is about how long it would take to walk from LA to Vegas!....still not as slow as the German mail service.

Talk to ya Later.

Elton John played Pittsburgh on either the day or day after Jerry Garcia died, I forget which. I don't think it was a coincidence that he opened the show with "I'm Still Standing". One of his encores was "Take Me to the Pilot", following a beautiful, long piano intro that hinted at it. One thing is certain, you will be entertained, and you'll leave their knowing you got your money's worth. The man loves his work, and it shows.
Here is a little-known Elton song he wrote after his friend John Lennon was killed.

Terrible games! The Giants weren’t doing their fans any favors!

The Monsoons have returned!!!!!

And with them, the cooler temperatures. High and low temps have dropped 10 degrees so it no longer feels like the devil's anvil when you go outside....but now it takes 20 minutes longer to get dried off after a shower because the humidity is 65%. Yuck.
