The Fraternal Organization Thread

I was installed as SW this fall as well, also for the second time, but 4 years ago. Our top 3 had to go through the upper chairs again.

Dues vary from lodge to lodge, but usually aren’t too bad. Our are $65 per year.
Our 95? year old Chaplain installed our officers, from memory! I believe that I was the youngest member in attendance. Lol, I'm 60. Looking forward to a good year. Our lone first timer is in his mid 30's, I guess. He's going to be Junior Deacon. The WM's Dad and my Dad were good friends. So I'm actually excited for the year ahead!

Our dues are up to $135 per year now. YEARS ago some brothers got the bright idea of going to a balanced budget, and the dues have gone up accordingly. So our bank account is high but our number of members is low. At least we still have fund raisers, but I'd like to see more of that money go to brothers having a hard time with the dues.

Ha! Sorry for the rant my friends!

Made a post in Health Journal about my attendance of a Marine Corps League Meeting last night. You can read it here: Don's Healthy Community

The long and short of it is that I haven't been in a while on account of Danger Baby and life being chaotic. But it was good to get back to the MCL meeting. Not that the meeting itself is life altering. It's the Civic Engagement that these men (and in almost every case, much older than me) and women perform. They go to Veteran Homes, the VA Hospital, funerals, parades, they do disaster relief, and give out scholarships. They help out the Marine Corps Reserve with their Toys for Tots drives and so much more.

Anyway, just thought I would post that I got off my ass and got back to a meeting. Plus I wanted to revive this thread.

And when you think you are out they pull you back in. I have accepted a new position of State Community Director with the Knights. At least this one I do get paid a little.

You broke the one rule of Fraternal Organizations.......don't say yes. Especially not to a paid position. Now you can never quit.

I was remiss in updating this thread with my position update last fall. In October I was installed as Worshipful Master of my lodge (for the second time). Due to our manning situation, myself and the 2 WMs ahead of me, all sat in the top 3 chairs a second time. Our lodge is starting to initiate/raise more masons who should be around to continue filling the chairs (officer positions) so that hopefully I don't need to be elected or appointed into one again. I don't mind filling in, as needed, but I'm spread pretty thin with extra-curricular activities and would love to get something off my plate.

Congrats KJ. Your lodge brothers are lucky to have you back in the East. Enjoy your 2nd year.

Hi Gentlemen,

I was initiated to Freemasonry in Liverpool Uk early 1990’s we enjoyed a healthy membership in those days.
After a year the first step was a steward then if committed Tyler. I went through all offices in the lodge room, finally installing my successor.
I was also a member of the Royal Arch, i emigrated to Australia in November 2004.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Freemasonry however the move to Australia and commitment to start a new life with our young son, I decided not to follow on.
I still have all my regalia, every now and then I read through the rituals.
I have met some Freemasons here and often invited to attend a local Lodge however I’ve not taken up the offer.

I am 58, not new to wet shaving. We had limited choice in the 80’s when I started shaving.

I don’t have a large collection, I love vintage Gillette and have
- British Rocket HD
- British Rocket Flaretip
- Slim Adjustable
2 x Vulfix Pure Badger
1 x Synthetic

Always on the lookout for vintage, however nowadays prices can be very high.

Kind Regards
Garry

Nice to meet you sir... Welcome

This weekend the State Utah had the Knights of Columbus state convention.

Was really impressed with how much growth our order has had at the state level.

Also pleased to announce that my brothers nominated, and voted me in as the State Warden.

Acceptance speech

Why are you playing next to a guy drinking Bud Light and only betting $1? Did he also split 10's?
