The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man

Sherlock is a fun scent but it is certainly unique. I like it for what it is but admit it’s not an everyday scent. I really enjoy CFG’s Redneck / gear head, the auto shop vibe is kind of cool.

I tried Trade Winds today. Went on very bright, dried down very dull. Once again, the menthol just does not compliment theses scents. I don't dislike this one like I did the other two, but it's not a scent I would wear.

Today's trial was Midnight Stag. Went on smelling like a musty attic. After the menthol wore off, not it smells like a musty basement. Mildly pleasant. I can kinda see what they were going for here, but it's muted, and misses the mark. So far, it's the best one, but I still wouldn't use it.

Midnight stag is a fun “man” scent. It incorporates the grungy auto shop notes of gear head but ads leather and dirt. I enjoy both midnight stage and gear head soaps but I think I would struggle to accept the aftershave. Ghost town barber is by far my favorite ...and you don’t like any part of it, so my thoughts on these scents probably aren’t all that helpful.

One thing that surprises me is how you are able to smell the menthol and that you find it uncomplimentary. My nose knows what pure menthol smells like but I have never smelled it in any of the CFG aftershaves I’ve tried. I wonder, do you smell the menthol in Fine Accoutrements aftershaves? Maybe using menthol crystals as Ron does has an effect on scent more than what Fine is using.

I've never used Fine. I'm not really an Artisan aftershave user. One thing I did wonder, since half of my cryogen leaked out, and the scent was all over the outside of all the bottles, if it somehow leaked "into" the other bottles, since the lids were loose. Not sure that enough could have to affect the scent that much, but its a thought.

So, several hours after application, I'm liking it a little more. But it's still kind of old and stale. It doesn't sit on my skin as if to say here's the scent I'm wearing, do you like it? It instead smells like I've been working in the garage all day, and took a shower, and this is the smell that's left on my skin that I couldn't wash off.

Weird mix of scents. Bummer, sorry this experience has been a huge strike out for you!

Yeah...that's Midnight Stag for you...I just couldn't warm to it as a fragrance. At. All.

i just gassed up my tractor, and spilled diesel on my hand. After washing with dish soap, the lingering scent is pretty darn close to Midnight Stag! Lol, turns out my impression was VERY accurate!

We went to see the Avengers movie last night. Very good, abrupt ending though. Obvious line up for the next chapter.

In the theatre for it as I type!

Looking forward to an appearance of our friendly neighborhood Spider Man of course!

Greetings, True Believers! It's your old pal Spider-Man.

Been working my way through the rest of the Chiseled Face aftershave samples.

Santa Paula - This is one dimensional, just orange, nothing else. Fairly strong, smells like I squeezed an orange peel over my skin. Needs balance.

Bay Rum - Ack. Probably the second worst Bay Rum I've ever tried, just above Ogallala. I love Bay Rum, but this was not good.

Cryogen - Meh. Just a cold shock, nothing else. Wish it had some scent. I prefer Osage Rub.

Cedar & Spice - All cedar, no spice. I like cedar, but prefer it blended with other woods and scents.

Summer Storm - I couldn't figure this one out. In the first 10 seconds, the scent changed every time I took a whiff. 1 second it was good, the next it was bad. It settled down to just ok, with a scent I couldn't really place. But longevity was about an hour, then gone. Very unremarkable.

I don't know what they are thinking at CF. It's like these scents were designed by my nemesis. I'm not trying to hate on the brand, but I don't really care for a single one of them. I went through 8 different scents of theirs, all with a very open mind, and disliked them all. In my entire experience of using aftershaves, I don't think there has been a total of 8 scents that I have not liked to date, and I've tried between 150-200 different scents. It really baffles be that there is not one that I like. After using them each a couple times, and going through my GTB soap sample (which I still don't enjoy), I can see how some of these scents would be better suited as a soap rather than an aftershave.

The Spider's Web

Had a good holiday weekend. Spent the weekend with my kids, and celebrated my youngest son's 13th Birthday. We fished in the morning at my friend's pond. My oldest son caught a 28", 7lb 10oz catfish! Then we went to Dave & Buster's to play some video games. Ended the day by walking around Cabelas, checking out the aquariums and taxidermy displays.

Then on Monday, I rode my motorcycle to my girlfriend's place which is about and hour and a half away. I only mention that because it's the longest ride I've done to date. Been working up to it, testing my road endurance. Actually was much easier than I thought it would be. And only used about half a tank of gas, so I can go around 3 hours on a longer trip before needing to stop for gas.
We swam in the pool and cooked out, and had a nice relaxing Memorial Day. Then on Tuesday I rode to my tattooer's place for another session on my HHG2G sleeve. He put the last two graphic elements in place, the towel and the dolphin, and started working on the background and tying the sleeve into my existing Freemason tattoo. I'm liking where it's headed. I probably have 2 more sessions before it is complete.

It's wrapped up in Saniderm, to aid in healing, so that's why it looks shiny/wrinkly.

Great read. It is a bummer that the CF stuff isn't working for you. It sucks when everyone else likes something that you don't, but there is so much good product out there that it isn't worth worrying about. Just move on to the next artisan.

Bummer about the CFG stuff, KJ. They can be fairly polarizing, (I'm looking at you, Midnight Stag), and I can see them not being for everyone.

Sounds great about the bike and tattoo, though! Looking forward to the finished product.

Bummer about the CFG aftershaves and scents as a whole for you. I have 3 or 4 scents soaps from them and three of the splashes and enjoy them but YMMV. I do also really enjoy a good splash of Barbasol Pacific Rush on occasion as well and its a bunch cheaper. who am i kidding I have only one scent nemesis and it was B&M Night Music.

All caught up, KJ. Too bad the CF aftershaves didn't hit your happy button, but I can see where they might not be for everyone.

Too bad about the scents not working for you. I wonder if there is some underlying ingredient that doesn't agree with your nose. Sounds like a great weekend.
