The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man

GLOW+4 day ... how are you faring physically and mentally, KJ?
Actually very well. Went out and mowed lawn and doing other yard work most of the day. Just came in to cool down. It’s 90 out, but because of humidity, the feels like is 100.

He's probably in the backyard playing with the Giant Glowing Toads
They’re frogs, not toads..... although, I did see a toad today. First one I’ve ever seen on the property.

Well @Dave in KY you asked for it, here it is.

Today was my second outing with the TNNSER 3D razor. First, here is what a couple of the other users of the TNNSER had to say....

this was was a game changer. The shave was smooth,
It's so intuitive and smooth.

After reading this I was very excited to try it, Being a fan of GEM razors to begin with, I thought I was in for a real treat!

The reality was a bloodbath. Yesterday on the first shave I cut myself 2 times. Today, I cut myself 4 times (one was a re-opening of a cut from yesterday. And on of my cuts today was so bad, the styptic pencil wouldn't get it to stop. Intuitive? I can't find a comfortable angle to shave with. Smooth? It feels harsh and aggressive to me. Barber Dave says he doesn't really like the GEM razors and doesn't use them often, but loves this razor. I like the GEMs, and I'm just not getting this razor yet. YMMV. (And @NurseDave don't let my review scare you off, just listen to the Other Dave's and give it a try.)

I'm not giving up on it yet, and I still love the razor overall, but man this is going to take some getting used to. Maybe I'll give my face a couple days to heal and try again. After all, I've got a new Feather to use (Mine came in yesterday!)

The @Graydog brush performed superbly. It's a little smaller than I expected, but still feels good in the hand (so to speak). I do have a few brushes that are shorter than this, but those are wider, so this one just feels different than I'm used to. But I love it. It's such a beauty to look at, and the knot compliments it so well. Easily held 3 passes of lather plus some. Thanks again Steve!

And yes, as Dave in KY is frequent to point out, I did say that I'm not a fan of wood brushes. I definitely appreciate the artistry and craftsmanship that goes into making them, and I am impressed with a lot of what Steve is making. Tons of skill there. But for the most part, they aren't aesthetically pleasing to me, and I had some wood brushes early on that cracked or had the finish chip off them, so I've always been leary. But this one is so unique and different looking, it is aesthetically pleasing to me (very much so). It has made me appreciate wood handles more, and I've been watching Steve's thread with great interest and awe now.

Nice setup and sorry about the bloodbath. Will need to use mine from Kyle soon to compare to others I've used. I'm starting to wonder if you use an angle that you like with pressure to get a good shave with all your mild razors and anything else won't work with your approach/angle. Hope you can dial it in. I'll back off restating your previous comments on wood brushes and SV soaps when you quit highlighting my lack of sniffing ability ;)

I'm curious too. I know Kyle made some changes, so I wonder if you notice a difference. But Barber Dave is using one form Kyle that should be the same as mine.

No, I agree. That is a very fair point. I do like a little pressure, so mild works great for me. I don't like to think about my shaves. And aggressive razors that I have ot focus on ange and pressure are just too much work for me. I like letting autopilot take over for the majority of my shave. I did find myself needing to ease up on the pressure today, but it's still not enough. And it is very difficult to do, with such a light razor. I'll definitely work on it some more. And I think I'm going to revisit some GEMs soon too.

I feel the same way, but ironically, that's why I gave up on the AS-D2. It's range of effective angles was so narrow that I was having to constantly monitor it. I'm sure if I had stuck with it, I would've gotten better at it, but I found another razor I preferred, so I sold the Feather. It's a beautiful razor though. I wish you the best of shaves with yours!

What is your preferred razor?

I got a Paradigm Diamondback, and it's been the perfect razor for me. I sold my Timeless .95 and my AS-D2 shortly after I got it to offset the expense. I haven't really wanted to use anything else since I got it, which is a big change for me. Now I have a small collection of vintage razors and a couple of Razorock SS GameChangers that I'm not using. So I'm contemplating selling some of those to fund a couple of brushes.

I'm curious about that one. @Dragonsbeard said he was going to lend me his, so I'm looking forward to trying it out. You find that one to be mild? I think I'd heard it was more aggressive.

Yeah, those weren't a great fit for me either, so I got rid of them.
I love the AS-D2, The Rockwell 6S, the GIllette Fatboy and the Yuma best of all my DEs.

I have a couple of Techs, a 1950s Canadian and a 1960s American, and I'd call those mild like the AS-D2. I don't think the Diamondback is mild in that sense, but it doesn't have the prominent blade feel like I get from my Rex Envoy or my NEW LC and SC. It ( the Diamondback) is efficient, but I never have the sense that it is going to bite me if im not paying close attention. I find it's balance to be just right for my grip, and it's lighter than the Timeless, which I found to be too bulky. It's really like it was designed for the way I shave.

Sorry about your misfortune with the Tnnser, I could not use it like a normal GEM I was pretty much almost flat cap on the face, if the angle changed at all the blade was too agressive, however if mt angle was just a bit shallower thank a Straight it was perfect, again another YMMV

That might be my problem too. I was using it like a GEM. I realized mid shave I need to go shallower... but maybe I didn't go shallow enough.

Im going to send the Diamondback to you with the other items we talked about. I find it more efficient than the 17 4 and even smoother. On the 2nd pass the blade feel almost disappears. It is fast becoming one of my favorite modern day razors. I’ll probably be ready to ship everything towards the end of next week.
😊👍🏼
