So, I'm still trying to catch up on the forum.... had 4 pages of new posts this morning (down to 1 now). I will still do a recap of my weekend soon, but here is something I wrote up on FB the day before my birthday, and thought it was worth repeating here, for those who are not on FB.
42.... Forty two was on of the best years for me. As I look back at the past year on this last day of me being 42, I’m just amazed at all the great things I got to do, and the great people I interacted with.
Just before I turned 42, I made a commitment to myself to be healthier and fitter. I started a Ketogenic way of eating, and have lost about 35 pounds. I also started weight lifting, and can squat more than my body weight!
I’ve also had a few surgeries to fix a few things including an umbilical hernia, and a growth on my thyroid. That growth turned out to be thyroid cancer and I had my whole thyroid taken out as a result. I’m still seeing an endocrinologist, and am taking daily hormone replacement, but am cancer free.
I got to spend the summer with my babies, and took them to the Lake of the Ozarks, thanks to
Dexter Luchtel letting us use his cabin, boat, and jet skis.... we love it there!
We also took a trip to St. Louis and had an amazing time, including a trip up inside the Arch, which I highly recommend.
My baby girl, Maryanne, turned 16 and started driving!!!
I was elected Worshipful Master of my Masonic Lodge. In layman’s terms, like the president of the lodge. It’s been an honor serving my Masonic Brothers in that position!
I got to go on the ski trip of a lifetime with Bruce Bond, to Colorado. We had so much fun and hope to do it again this winter as well.
I deployed to Hawaii in January with the B-2s. I know, a real hardship deployment huh? But I had an amazing time and snorkeled many times with sea turtles. That was magical.
On my birthday last year, I started a tattoo sleeve, with a Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy theme, for my 42nd birthday. 42, is a big theme of the book/movie.
Joey Smith is doing my sleeve at Inspired Ink, in Richmond, MO and he is doing an amazing job.
I bought a motorcycle, just before my birthday last year, and put about 4000 miles on it last year. Always wanted a motorcycle and so happy with my Yamaha V-Star. I love it and hope to put more miles on it this year.
I can’t thank
Rebecca Ryan enough for all the love and support she gave me over the past year, but sadly it just wasn’t meant to be for us.
This was my first full year in my new home, and one of the proudest things I did last year was start a garden. I grew lots of stuff but am most proud of my tomatoes and hot peppers. It exploded my tastes and interest in hot foods. I made lots of salsa last year, and began eating super hot peppers and hot sauces. I’ve been doing hot pepper and hot food challenges and just love it. I have many videos on YouTube about my challenges. I look forward to doing more this year, and getting even more hot and more adventurous.
Speaking of YouTube, I’ve also been doing a lot of videos about my Traditional Wet Shaving for an Internet forum/community called The Shaving Cadre. Such a great group of people that I’m honored to call friends.
One of the most amazing things that happened to me however, during my 42nd year on this planet, is I met my soulmate,
Amber Boling I cannot tell you how much I love her. I’ve never connected with anyone the way I connect with her. She does not complete me...... she compliments me, perfectly. We are so similar in tastes, and sense of humor.... we are just a perfect match. I look forward to every day I have with her in the future, and seeing what the future holds for us.
I’m sure I’m forgetting a few things, but I’ll wrap this up now saying that 42 has always been a special number for me and my 42nd year was also extra special for me. I’m sad to see 42 go. But I think, this year, as I celebrate my birthday tomorrow, I will not be celebrating my 43rd birthday but instead the 1st anniversary of my 42nd birthday. Not because I care about getting older.... I just want the magic of 42 to remain in my life, and I want to continue to have as amazing of years to come as I had this year!
