The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man

Greetings, True Believers! It's your old pal Spider-Man.

The past couple of shaves have been rather mediocre. But one thing I realized is that I need to get myself more organized, and that starts with putting up some shelves in my bathroom and finally getting my den unpacked. I've been cobbling around for a few months since I moved. I have the basics unpacked, so I've been focusing on the rest of the house, leaving my den for last. But if I keep putting it off, I'll never get around to it. I realized this because I have about a dozen razors unpacked, all with blades in them, and have just been using them until they give out. Well, I think I'm to the point where they have all given out, and I need to refresh the razors and their blades. I need some fresh razors to keep things, well... fresh. My counter is covered with all the new aftershaves and colognes that I have recently purchased making my sink really cramped. And I'm tired of it. Also, I have way too much stuff, but that's a story for another day.

So, over the weekend, my girlfriend and I visited a couple of Distilleries in the Kansas City area. We had done tours of two last month, and hit two more this month. These tours were great. The first one was the Holladay/McCormick Distillery. McCormick has their own line of bottom shelf products but also makes the 360 Vodka line. The brand also owns and distributes several other lines like Broker's Gin, Hussong's Tequila, Tarantula Azul, Tequila Rose, Triple Crown Whiskey, Platte Valley Moonshine, Ke-Ke Beach Liqueur, and many others. It was a large walking tour from building to building across their complex, and we got to stick our finger into the mash at various stages to taste their whiskey at different stages, including their white lightning (direct from the still). The bottle their white lightning, which they call white dog, and you can buy it on site. It's 118 proof! Of course I got a bottle. Interesting stuff. Also, after the tour, you got two free samples of anything they have, and then after that samples are 25 cents, and you can try it all if you want. I was very impressed with Triple Crown. If you are a Crown Royal drinker, I highly suggest you find some Triple Crown. It's smoother and better, and costs about the same. Also, if you drink Fireball, then you need to try Platte Valley FireShine..... it's way better!

The second Distillery we hit was S.D. Strong. It's a new small distillery that's only been in operation for a few years. The make Vodka, Gin, Barrel Aged Gin, Bourbon, and Rye. Steve Strong is the owner and did the tour himself. Great guy. His distillery is located in a cave under Park University. (There are lots of caves in KC that are used for storage, industrial, and business). After the tour, he sat the group down, and led them on a tasting of all of his spirits. It was a very unique experience, and he produces some fine spirits. So far, I think he said they are only in 5 states, and their bourbon & rye production is very slow right now. But I expect you will be hearing form them in the future.

So, Last night I attended my Masonic Lodge. We had a military member recently PCS (move to another base), and left his seat open. So I was voted in to fill it. So for the remainder of our Masonic Year, I am the Senior Warden of out lodge, which is basically second in command. We generally progress through the chairs, so next year it is very likely that I will be voted in as Master of the Lodge. (Term starts in October) I've got a lot of studying to do before then.

Very cool JK. I love tours like that were you see process to get what you are tasting and then get to taste many things without having to buy a bottle of each.

BTW, I think we have yet to see a pic of you in your blue spandex pants Spidey

Congrats on the Senior Warden chair. Great read. Those tours are fun.

The tours sound like fun. Seems like there are distilleries popping up everywhere these days. I saw at least 3 or 4 dozen of new labels when I made my whiskey run to Tennessee last week. Alabama is very slow to get new stuff.

I've done tours at Wild Turkey, Makers Mark, Town Branch, Evan Williams Experience, Jack Daniels, George Dickel, Pritchard's and LaGrange Mountain.

FYI, just in case you didn't know, All of the distilleries call their "white lighting" aka spirits right off the still, white dog, so far as I know, at least all I've heard of does. Also the fermented mash is referred to as distillers beer.

Congratulations on the Appointment!

Nice Read KJ, only one problem with your journal, you statement to having "too much stuff" 50 demerits and you must go jump in your pond, LOL Congrats on the promotion

I was thinking the same thing, but forgot to mention it in my post. Good catch, Dave!

Meh, Let me clarify. When it comes to collecting, there is no such thing as too much stuff. If it's going to sit on a shelf, for me to admire, the more the merrier. But when it comes to things that I have lying around like soaps, creams, aftershaves, or colognes that I will NEVER use again, they gots to go! They are taking up space that can be used for better things (like SV).... Those items fall under the "too much stuff category".

Greetings, True Believers! It's your old pal Spider-Man.

So, this past weekend, I celebrated my 42nd Birthday. And thanks to everyone who posted in my birthday thread on TSC and to those who sent me B-Day greetings on FB!

It started off on Friday by watching Avengers: Infinity War. I'll sum up the movie in two words. WOW, and Damn! It's a great movie, and a little different than the typical Avengers movie. Definitely deeper, and with a weird ending (Hence "Damn"). I don't thing the ending is the end as we saw it. I think the next Avengers movie is going to revisit some of that stuff and change the way we saw the end of Infinity War. That's all I'll say on that right now.

On Saturday, I went and picked up some minnows for my pond, and some Striped Bass and Largemouth Bass for my Aquarium. Loving these guys in the tank. Can't wait for them to get bigger. As they outgrow my tank, I'll move them over into my pond, only keeping 1-2 of each in my aquarium.

Then I went to a motorcycle shop to try on some helmets. I've been wanting to order a helmet online, but was confused about sizing. Nobody within 75 miles of me carried the model I am looking at so I haven't been able to try it on. I finally found 1 dealer, and hour and half away that had a helmet in the same series, but the previous model. So I was able to check the sizing. I felt a little bad, just going in to try on the helmet, without buying anything, but I think that probably happens a lot.

Then I met up with my girlfriend, and we went to a couple of antiques stores. I bought 7 vintage razors (1 Gillette Franken, 1 Schick Hydro Injecta, and the rest GEMs if I recall correctly). I'll be making a thread later about my cleaning up and restoring of these razors. Maybe, I'll save them in order to do a restoration video for the site? I also found a full telescope bottle full of Old Spice for $4. I honestly cannot tell you how many Full Bottles of Shulton Old Spice I have found for under $5, but it's a lot!

Then we went to Paradise Park, which is on of those Family Fun parks with an arcade and small attractions. We went on the Go-Carts, Bumper cars, played Mini Golf, and I did the climbing wall. It was a great date night. We finished off by eating some Mongolian Grill. We are both on the Keto plan, so sometimes finding foods we can eat, out at restaurants, is a challenge. but since these bowls we built ourselves and added whatever sauces we wanted, it was absolutely perfect. We will be going back to that place again!

Then on Sunday, my actual birthday, I had an appointment to get a tattoo. Now, Most of you are familiar with the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (HHG2G), either from the book trilogy (of 5 books 1979-1992), the 1981 BBC television series, or the 2005 Movie. If so, you understand the significance of the number 42. And maybe some of you just have heard about 42 from us yahoos on the forums. I read the HHG2G book in High School and the book and the idea of 42 has been with me, and at least a small part of my life ever since. [Side note: one of my B-Day presents from my girlfriend was a First Edition HHG2G book!] Well a couple of months ago I got to thinking, I'm turning 42, I need to do something epic for my birthday. Initially, I just wanted a 42 tattoo, but the idea quickly evolved into a full sleeve of my favorite things from the book and series. So on my birthday, I had an 8 hour sitting to get my piece started. He got two major pieces done. First and foremost, the 42 with Life, The Universe, and Everything around it. The other piece is the Sperm Whale and Bowl of Petunias (you'll need to read or watch to understand their significance). I'm very happy with they way their turned out and can't wait to get the rest of it done and see the whole thing together. I think I'm probably going to have 2 more sittings to get it complete. I go back next week for some more fun! I actually enjoy the experience of getting a tattoo. I don't thik it hurts too bad at all. For my forearm piece I was laying down on my stomach, and I was actually so comfortable that I actually fell asleep twice. Once for a few minutes, and the second time was a full 15 minutes. I thought that was just crazy. Here are some pics. They are covered with a clear Saniderm wrap, so that's why they look wrinkly. The Saniderm helps them heal better/faster/and retaining more color.

Sounds like you had a great birthday KJ! Glad you did!

Great wild finds, hopefully they will all clean up well.

Good stuff KJ and sounds like an epic bday celebrations. A restoration videos series would be AWESOME!

You're 42? A few more years you'll be old enough to graduate to real golf ;)
