Shave #207

...The poor boy changes clothes and puts on aftershave....

Razor - TI
Brush - vulfix badger
Soap - Latha unscented
After - TOBS Jermyn St

Shave 207 came closer on the heels of 206 than my face tends to like. This is, as always, a great mystery to me...but perhaps the greater mystery is why do I keep trying to ignore what my face tells me? Would that I had an answer for you, cadre members, but I do not...

A 2 day after shave is not super uncomfortable while it's happening...but the alum tells a different tale, and my face, despite going easy, despite the super comfy edge on the TI, ZINGED quite robustly. Wowzer.

Other than that setback, this was a very nice shave, although even the TI was catchy on the ATG pass. This made me push a little, which contributed to the alum shock no doubt. When all was said and done, it was a solid DFS with some super smooth BBS spots...

And yes, the soundtrack was Paul Simon's Graceland, which to me is pop perfection...and an all time fave.

Onward and shaveward....

I can't stand to use alum after a shave - my ole mug does not like it one bit.

Sorry to hear about the irritation, but the Jermyn Street is always a good call, and I'm in 100% agreement on Graceland. One of the best albums of all time IMO.

Sorry about the irritation Brad. I had used Alum a lot whilst learning, but somewhere along the line I stopped. Not sure how many shaves in, but is was probably north of 400. Now I only use it on my fingers for skin stretch.

Thanks, Eric.

I am a huge fan of Simon, and his entire body of work, with and without Garfunkel, is in regular rotation. His second most recent, So Beautiful Or So What has some really great stuff on it, up there with his other output. But Graceland definitely has something special...a mix of poetry and emotion and fun that is just perfect.

Thanks, Walt - I only REALLY started using it as a full, post shave, pre-aftershave thing recently...but at some point I may drop it.

Catching up Brad!

Some great pictures, and some good some not so good shaves, so it evens out right?

Shave #208

Razor - George Wostenholm Pipe
Brush - vulfix badger
Soap - Copper Hat Lumberjack
After - H et V C&CC

Well, my word, have I fallen behind on all things shaving cadre. This is actually NOT the shave I had today, but the shave I had 4 days ago. (I haven't taken a picture for today's shave yet...) Work has been flat out exhausting, and I have barely felt like writing or reading anything...just falling into a comatose state at the end of the day and passing out. Not so fun...

So I'm behind on my journal and certainly everyone else's. I shall try to remedy that soon!

This shave was a lovely affair. I decided to pull out one of my oldest blades, the Genuine Pipe, which has always been a solid shaver for me - with an edge from a pro honer from around the time I started! It is not some great beauty (although the engraving is pretty rad) - the horn scales are really beat up - but I love shaving with it.

I also pulled out a soap I haven't used in quite a while. I discovered The Copper Hat in Victoria, BC when I was on tour. They have a very small shop in the market square, and the owner, another Brad, is a super great guy who seems to be in wet shaving for all the right reasons. I told this story when I first visited his shop, but he was in the process of removing styrofoam cups from the ocean and turning them into shaving brushes. In this nasty, often negative world, that is some s**t I can get behind.

And I can get behind this soap, too! The Lumberjack has a lovely, woodsy scent and is a good performer. After 3 passes I was left smelling and feeling great, with a nice smooth result. Can't complain!

Onward and shaveward....

Good checking in Brad!

Awesome design on the Pipe and a killer sounding soap!

Hope you get some rest soon!
