Steve's Journal: The Saga Continues....

Sorry for the long absence everyone. It's been pretty nuts here. But I have a Blue Fougere review coming as well as my first impression of Stirling Sandalwood. Also got a few(and by a few I mean crap load haha!) blades from Doug that I'll be making my way through. Thanks Doug!

I also have a lot of catching up to do on everyone else's journals...If I ever find the time! Hopefully soon though!

Looking forward to the reviews!

No worries Don! I didn't even notice you were gone because I've been a giant slacker too!

Well I've been extremely busy with 2 jobs and some family stuff going on. I've felt really bad about leaving everyone hanging with my 2 reviews haha!

I've already given a pretty good review of Blue Fougere, but I'll reiterate that I really liked it. A lot. So much so that I'll be adding it to my den. I might even make it an everyday driver. I liked it that much.

As for the Stirling Sandalwood....It lathers effortlessly, and performance-wise it didn't disappoint. The thing that was disappointing was the scent strength. It was very weak. I'm not sure if this was due to being shipped in a sandwich bag during hot weather, or if it was because it was just a sample. Either way it was not strong at all, and was almost completely unnoticeable after the first pass. The scent itself was very nice though, until it disappeared lol. The aftershave was the same, a very pleasant Sandalwood scent, but it didn't last long at all. Overall I probably won't be adding this one to the rotation.

I should also state that the sample I received from Tim (Milkcrate) didn't look to be used more than once, if at all. I'm currently on the 8 or 9th shave with it, and I still can't see the bottom of the container. Stirling definitely hooks you up with their sample sizes. Hopefully at some point this week I'll finish this sample up and I'll be switching over to a sample of Oleo Windy City from Gonzo44.

Also, I just want to say I hope everyone is doing well. I'll be trying to catch up on everyone's journals this week. Hopefully I'll get some free time lol!

Nice entry Steve and good shave. Stirling samples are great...you can easily get 15-20 shaves off of each one, if not more.

No need to apologize Steve! Life gets the best of us sometimes and we have to care of things outside the things we want to do! Thanks for the reviews.

I've decided to stop keeping track of entry numbers, or even doing a full shave update. I just don't have the time right now. But I do want to continue to chronicle my (mis)adventure, so I will still be trying to check in on a regular basis. Ok on to the good stuff....

So I'm still trying to kill the Stirling Sandalwood soap sample. The AS sample is almost completely gone, but the soap won't die! I've said before that the performance of this soap is excellent, but the scent is very weak. So I'm eager to move on, but at the same time I don't want to waste it lol.

As for blades, I recently received a ton of blades from Gonzo44 and from dkeester. The first I tried was a Treet Platinum...It was only a hair better on my face than a Feather. That's not a good thing lol. Cut me up pretty good. I might give them another try at some point, but I moved on after 2 shaves. I then opted to give the Gillette Silver Blue a try. Wow. These were the closest to Kai blades (my best match to this point) that I've tried so far. The Kai's are just a touch sharper, but the Gillette SB was great! After 5 shaves I thought maybe I felt a touch of tugging, so I swapped out again. This time going for the new Parker blades. So far I've only had one shave, but it was very smooth. Not as sharp as the Gillette SB, but still pretty good. I'd love to hear your opinions on these 3 blade choices to see how they compare to my own.

In other news, the real estate gig is starting to pick up. 4 closings next month and my first listing has only been on the market for a week and I'm already getting some nibbles (yes, that's an I Love You Man reference lol). So with that on top of another full time job, I've been running around like a mad man! Hopefully I'll be able to check in more often. And maybe one day I'll catch up on everyone else's journals!

Sounds good Steve! Glad businesses is chugging along for you.

Can’t speak to Parker or Treet, but GSB are one of my favorites easily. They give a very smooth shave, work in many razors, and last almost as long as an Astra SP.

Great stuff Steve!! Glad to hear that business is ramping up, we'll be here when you have the time!

Steve...take care of you and yours. If you only have a couple lines to share or if you can't respond all the time...all is well. I have a ton of respect for guys who do real estate...a lot of pressure. I am glad to see you doing well...this is the time of year everyone buys!

Thanks for all the support guys! It means a lot!

Quick update: I had a second shave with the Parker blade today. No issues to report. It was used on about 48 hours of growth and cut right through. 3 pass BBS above the jaw, DFS below.

I’d definitely recommend these to anyone that’s looking for a smooth blade!

Now I just need to figure out how to get the closeness of my shave to match above and below the jaw line....

Good to hear from you Steve!

Congratulations on the closings!

The Parker blades to me were better than the GSB's. Never used a Treet.

Congrats on your real estate success! And based on your recommendation, I'll have to try the Parker blades one day. I can say that the GSB's are excellent blades.

Had a 3rd shave with the Parker blade this morning and got the same result. Very little irritation, very close shave. I'm really starting to like the Parker blades. I'll have to see how they do in other razors, but in my Stirling they're definitely a winner!

I'll also be going back to a Gillette SB and trying that in my Fatip Grande. That was also a very good blade in my opinion.
