Steve's Journal: The Saga Continues....

Good stuff. I was curious about those soaps. They have so many scents, it would be fun to try. But I wasn't sure of the performance.

Good shave and read Steve!

but I've learned that slowing the post shave process down a bit and allowing the products to settle in a bit longer has made a huge difference.

Yes, Yes it does. I always allow time between each post shave product application for them to "soak" in.

All caught up, and I've never been to that museum before in Philly. But my wife, daughter, and I are planning to come up to Philly for a few days sometime this summer. My daughter (8 years old) has been wanting to see the Liberty Bell.

The Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, The Constitution Center...there's a lot of cool stuff to see there!

Journal Entry #30 (2 shaves)

Pre Shave: Hot shower, shampoo'd beard

Shave: Stirling DE3P6/Kai blade, Stirling Kong synthetic, Razorock Blue Fougere soap

Post Shave: Cold rinse, alum, cold rinse, witch hazel, Razorock Blue Fougere AS

It's been a busy couple of days so I'm a little bit behind. The last 2 shaves were identical, the only difference being that Saturday's shave was done with 2 1/2 days growth.

I've decided that to get through the samples that I've received from some very generous members, I'll be alternating weekly and picking from a different set each week. Next week I'll be picking from the Stirling samples, so if anyone wants to suggest what I pick first or wants to hear a review of something specific, this is what I'll be choosing from: Bay Rum, Almond Creme, and Sandalwood. I'm saving Ben Franklin for a special occasion!

So for this week, I've chosen to go with the RazoRock Blue Fougere. I have to say this is one of the best scents I've come across so far. It's almost like a typical powdery barbershop scent mixed with an Old Spice (or Stirling Spice since that's what I have to compare) type of scent. It's a very pleasant combo.

The soap performance is typical of any other RazoRock soap I've previously tried. It doesn't disappoint. Lathers easily. Very slick. Good stuff as usual.

The other new addition is the Stirling Kong synthetic. This thing is awesome! I've never used a synth before so I didn't know what to expect. A totally different feel from the pure badgers I've been using. The brush has a noticeably better backbone. The hairs themselves felt much softer on my face. I can get used to this for sure. It whipped up my lather effortlessly. The only complaint I have is that it might be just a little to big for me. Otherwise it might be my new daily driver from now on, unless I get a smaller synthetic.

The Blue Fougere AS also didn't disappoint. Like the GTB AS, this has a menthol kick in the beginning, although it's not quite as much as the GTB. It then settles nicely into the matching soap scent, and is surprisingly very long lasting. I put it on Saturday after shaving and it was still faintly noticeable to me 8 hours later. Definitley a winner, and I'll be adding both the soap and AS splash to the rotation.

As far as the shave quality, the streak is still alive. Very little irritation after both shaves. The only thing that I can't figure out is, how to get a closer shave on the neck and under the chin without using more than 3 passes. After today's shave I even did a fourth pass on the neck alone. Still the same as if I had only done 3 it seemed. I'm still left with a DFS, however it doesn't last as long on the neck. I guess this is just part of the journey, another aspect to figure out!

In non shave related news, I took my wife to see Justin Timberlake on Saturday night. While he's not exactly my cup of tea, it was actually a really good show. He's a great entertainer and put on a great performance. A solid 2 to 2-1/2 show and he never stopped. I was impressed. Afterwards we went over to Xfinity Live (basically a giant building with multiple bars inside) which is right across the street from all the stadiums in South Philly. We hung out with one of my wife's co-workers who also went to the show. All in all a good night out.

Good stuff Steve, shaves and otherwise!

Im always down to hear about a sandalwood or almond product!

I wouldn’t say I’m a JT guy either, but he’s got some catchy songs and seems like a pretty cool guy.

Too bad they took down the Rocky statue....but you can still run the steps of the library!!

SANDALWOOD! SANDALWOOD! SANDALWOOD! Can you tell I like sandalwood? As far as the shaving under the chin and on the neck? Honestly, you are the only one (maybe your wife) that is going to notice that the shave is less sooth in those areas than the rest of the face. Do yourself a favor and let it go man. You will save yourself a lot of razor burn and maybe even some cuts and nicks. As far as the Justin Timberlake concert goes...I am glad you had a great time. It wasn't long ago that I would have scoffed at the mere mention of that name...but I have mellowed recently and recognize that while he is not my cup of tea...he is a great performer and decent artist. Glad you had fun in New Jersey...err...umm...Philadelphia.

Getting caught up Steve, some great reads, and Philly is a fun place

Great shave Steve!

The RazoRock Blue Fougere is some good stuff! Love the scent!

I have to admit that Justin Timberlake is pretty funny on Jimmy Fallon, and when he's on SNL.

Sorry for the long absence everyone. It's been pretty nuts here. But I have a Blue Fougere review coming as well as my first impression of Stirling Sandalwood. Also got a few(and by a few I mean crap load haha!) blades from Doug that I'll be making my way through. Thanks Doug!

I also have a lot of catching up to do on everyone else's journals...If I ever find the time! Hopefully soon though!
