Shawn's forging shed

Great recovery work, Shawn...thankfully the kickback off of the grinder only resulted in some damage to the knife and not you.

Reminds me of Sampsonite using a Gorilla to show how stuff their luggage was.

Great save. I would not have guessed that you made a mistake without you telling me.

Awesome movie haha!

Even good guys make mistakes. The great ones just know how to hide them.

True! In my video from today, I almost took me ear off.... but in re-watching the footage, I couldn’t even tell. Lol.

The other one is ready for it's mark and final honing then I need to make a sheath for it and it's complete.

That knife looks great, Shawn!

Sorry about the mishap, but the steel was just trying to show you what it wanted to be.

I'm glad you managed to avoid damage to yourself!

Thanks Rob!
I read something on another forum that I like. Bladesmith's don't make mistakes, they just make smaller knives.
You get to make it down sometime and we will stay away from the buffer. The idiot that normally runs the thing can be dangerous if that kind of thing happens.

Made some micarta today. It's not fancy or pretty, and a 90 degree shop wastes a lot of resin because it sets way too fast in that heat, but I managed to get enough for one set of scales.
Hopefully I got enough resin to soak in and I won't have dry pockets in it when I shape it.....

I've made a fair amount of micarta myself. I prefer making it with cloth but when enough resin is used colored paper works too. The process is pretty simple but requires a little bit of prep and some sort of press. I look forward to seeing how your scales turn out.

What are you talking about? That looks like something you can buy in the store! Only I know it's made better!

Finally doing a little catching up. Good to hear that the ceramic belts are working out for you. The "durability testing" comment almost tickled my funny bone enough for a spit-take, mostly because I have the remnants of a few projects in The Dungeon that made me realize just how durable CA is as a finish while doing similar testing. The knife looks great, and I love the detail work on the micarta scales. Great stuff Shawn. Someday I'll have to start updating my page lol.
