Rich's Journal: Adventures with Life and Sharp things

What are you looking for?
Type of wood, shape,size?
Well hi there Steve 😂

When I have funds to procure a knot (questionable when that will be)...I was thinking something like what was done for John @DeepSea, with the striking contrast and sharp cuts of wood. I cannot get over how beautifully that was done.

One wood I really like is a rich mahogany. If it helps, I love the ergonomics of the SV jar shapes as well as the slightly more “Barber brush” shapes of the Yaqi Rainbow. I’d want as much as possible left up to your whim and unique artisanship though, the less I say, the more of an original Graydog it would be! And that excites me!

Edit - sorry to waylay your thread Rich 😂

It seems chestnut is far easier to find on eBay and I needn’t have carried my chunk in a drawer or box for 40 summers since I cut it off scoutmasters cabin. I’m hoping there was enough left from that hunk for Steve to make a handle for himself. Ive been meaning to go out to the camp and see if there are any downed branches of useable size from the specimen out there.

Razor: Gamechanger .68 / Wizamet (1)
Soap: American Crew shave cream
Scuttle: Captains Choice / Face Lather
Strop:
Brush: VdH El Cheapo Del Grande Especialle Boar
AS/eDt: Nivea 2 in 1 (ka-pow), American Crew Post Shave Lotion

Comments: If it appears I’m using off the shelf shaving products, it’s because I am. A friend of mine retired from barbering after some 50 years of running his one chair shop and he gave me these items. I was too late to get his lathering machine.😢 the ingredients list contains a good number of 50 cent chemical names so I’m approaching this shave very tentatively with the mild GameChanger plate.

The Hardware: The VdH and GameChanger are well proven and lend well to freeing up a few neurons to evaluate todays adventure software.

The Software: American Crew is a product made in Barcelona, Sp. I don’t know how old it is, but it came out kind of curdled-like. The instructions are quite simple: wet face, apply product, shave. Did I follow these instructions? Nay my brothers I say nay! I squirted a goodly glob in the bowl and attempted to lather the stuff. Was I successful? You ask. Well brothers, I was able to make the curdled material into a homogenous material that if one were to close one eye and squint with the other it resembled a low lather/foam. Ok. I’ll admit it. Nay my friends I failed. But I did have a brush to apply the recombined ingredients to my face without subjecting my hands to possible toxins (wait.. I was putting it on my face.. oh well) it smells quite nice. Close examination of the ingredients reveals almond oil, eucalyptus leaf, avocado oil, peppermint, clove flower oil, calendula flower. Then it turns scientific again. Slickness is marginal, perhaps it is expected to lay it on thick.

The post shave was also curdled, but I just rubbed my palms together. It smells nice. Has some menthol, but unlike the soap the printing is even tinier so they are to remain a mystery.
Bottom line, probably gonna bin these. They take up space better occupied by much better products.

The Shave: Three passes and not too bad of results and reasonable comfort owing to the prowess of the GameChanger. I think I have another latherless product in the locker that I think I wouldn’t be heartbroken to prune to gain space.

I’ve been absent a couple few days figured I’d plead my case. I’ll be calling the doctor to see what she wants me to do. I woke up early Wednesday morning with chills (shivering like a dog passing razor blades) just a very low grade fever but enough to make me feel bad. Acetaminophen seems to have no problem helping the fever down. I cough, but they are good productive coughs, like when I get bronchitis. As a preventative measure, moved mama into the guest bedroom. Fever has yet to break 100, I can smell and taste ok. Maybe catching a bit from last weeks flu shot. If any you guys coming by to visit. I have another guest room, I feel like I’ve been beaten. I am familiar with that feeling. If I can keep from shivering I’ll try to work in a Hombre shave on the morrow.

"Good morning, my friends, and thanks for coming to join me for another shave"

... is what Rich would say should he have actually had a shave since his last post, but alas, our TSC Merman has been getting scruffy while lounging 7/24 on the couch since then (except for bio-breaks) while spouse-unit feeds him soup.

I've been having short daily Facetime chats with our favorite and most witty brother (uncle for you young'uns) and if you have his contact info, give him a dingle ... but not a dingle berry; he says he's already fully stocked on those.

Thanks for the update, I was wondering how he was! Get better Rich!
