Quijote's search for BBS

It has been a long time since I have spent money on shaving stuff. But I fear that since the bingo game, I am going to make some purchases. Gotta get the matching aftershaves. Although, with the CBL, I may just have to get unscented as it didn't look like he carries the Hombres tonic any more.

Well, tomorrow is the interview. Unfortunately, due to the surge in numbers around here, they decided to change it from an in person interview to over Zoom. I was looking forward to seeing them in person. I do understand why and appreciate their concern. Oh well, looks like the only person that gets to enjoy the event of my aftershave is me. And before you suggest it, I am still going to be wearing pants. No Zoom formal for me.

Well dang…now you can’t win them over in person with your exceptionally smooth shave and great scent aura.

Good luck though 😎👍

Well, I was passed over for this one. The person who got it, happens to have a husband who is a manager in another department who stops by and chats with the heads of our department on a daily basis. Between this and the fact that the assistant manager outright lied to me, I think it might be time for me to move on.

Dang, sorry Don.

There are times when you look back on your journal from the beginning and it is amazing how much has changed. I have become a creature of habit, when back then I would have tried everything that comes available. I was trying to keep track of how many shaves I got it of a blade so I could know when to toss it. Now I just know which areas are the first to not get BBS when a blade is on its way out. 2 shaves in a row with that area not BBS and away the blade goes. Not really sure how many uses I get out of them, but I think it is around a blade a month for every other day. Although, I did find around half a dozen tucks of blades that I have never tried just sitting on the shelf in my shave den. I may have to try those soon.

Speaking of blades, what is this Wizamet? When I disappeared the last time, I had not heard of it. When I came back, it seems to be about the only thing people are using. Doing a quick Google search, it appears to be the new Polisilver, is that right?

There’s some intense debate. Wizamet seems to have turned into a specific Polisilver and both discontinued, seems to now be back in production in the the east somewheres.

The vintage, discontinued packages of Wizamet and Polisilvers are really high quality, sharp but smooth blades…better than GSBs. The remakes that are supposedly out there, I haven’t tried yet.

I just searched that auction site and there were some made in Russia. I'm going to assume those are the new ones.

Participating in the Williams 3017 and the February one blade challenge, so you probably can figure out what I am using right now. Still considering picking up a new razor or 2. Thinking about a slant and a kamisori. I sent out my 3 go to straights to get some work done a while back and am eager to use a straight again.

I am also doing the weight loss challenge right now. Watching my calories and exercising. Have seen some drop, but not much yet. Going rock climbing tomorrow. Let's hope my weight doesn't drop too fast. The kids are excited to try it though.

No shave today. Went hiking and rock climbing. Couldn't rock climb too much. With the 30 degree weather, the hands went numb quick. I'm just glad the kids didn't ask to climb this one.

After we stopped though, we hiked up to the top of the ridge for this view.

Hope you all had a good day.

Well gentlemen, my journal got moved to the second page, so I am probably due for an update. I have discovered that modern Williams is nothing to be scared of, I can get a great shave it of it, but it takes longer to build a good lather than my other soaps. I'm going to continue using it until it is gone, but it won't be a true 3017 because when I don't have time, I will cheat on it with one that is younger and better smelling.

I am also doing the one blade challenge. Got 10 shaves in so far on the GSB and it is still going strong. I did change out the razor itself to my Old Type.

On the personal side, I am still in the job search. I haven't actually looked for a job in over 10 years. It feels very foreign to me. I did give my resume to a head hunter and they interviewed mea couple of times to see what would fit best. I also have my resume in at a couple of other places as well. We shall see what pans out.

We went hiking again yesterday with the kids' hiking group. It was interesting to say the least. It was a 5 mile round trip hike to Alum Cave that gained around 1000 ft. On the way back, about a half mile in, one of the moms had went ahead with her daughter who is my daughter's best friend. So, we told both of my kids that they could run up to them. When we got to another half mile down, the mom comes up behind us. We realize that she hasn't been in front of us and the kids had taken off running without anyone there. So, since my wife had been listening to a podcast on the way up called National Park After Dark, she is freaking out. And I sprint after them. I reach my daughter quickly and tell her to go back up the path to my wife and then continue down. I had to slow down quite a few times because this is a well traveled path with many pinch points and some ice on the rocks for good measure. I end up reaching him just as he is getting to our van. We have reinforced the buddy system with them and told them that if they are going to try to catch up with someone and they go more than 2 turns ahead without seeing that person, turn around and come back.
