On the razors edge with Galaktus

I have several synth knots. I have seen some of them shed a fiber or two, but none of them have shed badly. I wouldn't worry too much about it, unless it sheds a ton.
 
I've had synths lose a hair here and there, but more than two is shedding to me. I hate it.
My lapping film came in from Thor Labs. I also had a few packs of wet/dry sandpaper tucked away. 800 and 1500. I used some painters tape to lay down a 1500 sheet on my plexiglass slab and re-beveled that infernal Geneva 6/8, Gold Dollar 66 and Genco Henry's XX. The lapping film went up to 1um, then paper under the film with shaving lather.

The shave certainly improved this morning with the Geneva 6/8. Maybe the DMT 1200 I was using wasn't the best bevel setter?

The DMT is actually my newest diamond hone. I did use it to lap some arkies though, full disclosure. I seemed to have good repeatable results with taping down wet/dry sandpaper, judging by the good shave with a GD 66 this morning.

Wife and I are going to the beach again this weekend as a celebration for her passing the nursing exam. I think I'm going to bring a DE, for simplicity as well as variety. That way I don't have to worry about a strop either.
 
The trip sounds nice. I hope you have a great, but socially distant, time.

Newest hone, huh... I would think that it could lap a few stones and still be fine, but Arkies are really hard. I haven't tried diamond plates for honing. I have an Atoma #140 for lapping stones. ... I would think the DMT 1200 would be decent for bevel setting. ... Weird. I am glad that you got good results from the paper, however. There does seem to be lots of trial and error when it comes to finding a honing setup that works repeatably.
 
I think the hardest part of finding a repeatable honing routine is the wait between shaves. That's the frustrating part to me. Anyway, I found these at a local store, hopefully I can join the next Zoom call and "enjoy" these with everyone. IMG_20200606_212248.jpg

I wasn't super impressed with the Derby. Harder than Arko, different scent yet similar. Maybe I'm just used to Arko. I'll give it a few more shaves to see if I like it or not.

Not a whole lot to report, pleasurable shaves with some DEs while at the beach. Going home tomorrow morning.

Since I work nights, I'm gonna have to wait for a video conference to fall on a night off for me. I'm more than happy to eat those Reaper cheese curls but has to be on a night off.

Seems my soap and razor schizo tendencies are popping up again, lol. Wanted to switch back to DE for a while. Also wanted to try a different soap that I've never tried before. It was a choice between Cella and Soap Commander Endurance.

I like shaving with straights, but I also enjoy the thought-free ease of DE razors as well, and occasionally injectors. I just wish I could shave a lot more often, lol. Realistically I can only use one kind per shave.

I washed my motorcycle this afternoon. Tomorrow Mrs Galaktus and I will be visiting a few Harley dealerships. Going to start seroously looking into getting a new bike, and too see what I can get for mine in a trade in. Unless they offer me a realllly good deal, im not buying tomorrow.
