Not quite Music City USA

I've always liked this quote from Niels Bohr..

That's a great quote for sure! I'm not sure it's possible to understand it in the sense that we usually mean to understand something. And yet it's the most successful physical theory ever. I can't get started again. I'll think about it all day!

In the peculiar socioeconomic culture that is Gallatin, Tennessee, USA, a young man demonstrates that he has "made it," when he is able to own a new, Ford F-150 Truck. This is no small feat. The base model lists for $60k, and currently dealers are marking things way up. Some of these people will spend half their monthly income on a truck payment, and live extremely frugal lives in almost every other respect.

But, having lived in a big East Coast City, and now having been here for 6 years, I think the quality of life one can achieve on limited means is less stressful in a small town. It's cheaper to live here for sure. My electric bill to power a whole house is $70 a month. It was six times that in Baltimore.

But I prefer the city, and the Northeast. I want a Mini, not an F-150.

My daughter keeps trying to convince us to move to Tennesse......but I'm not buying.

I was born in West Tennessee, raised in East Tennessee, and now I'm in Middle TN. East TN is beautiful. But I would not try to get anyone to move here.

My daughter lives in West Tennesse.....near Erin.
Ah! Well, I was born in Memphis while my dad was in dental school, but I have no memory of it. Most of my upbringing was in the mountains of the East.

Barber search update. I've found a recently opened Barber Shop in town with 3 Master Barbers on staff. They're young, but I'm not going to make that a primary consideration. They have an email form on their website, and they invite me to ask for more information, so that's what I'm going to do. Here's what the price for a Men's Haircut goes for in Gallatin, TN. One of the Barbers is named Morgan Champagne, which is a very interesting name.

A British shave to inaugurate this zany brush. I said I was done buying brushes, but this is the wildest Simpson handle I've seen, and I ordered it when I came across it. It's really cool. I'm glad I got it. I have two non-faux ivory handles now. If I get more, I'm going to complete the Persian Jar and Keyhole sets.

Very cool brush! Does the chosen shape and color scheme have a specific correlation to the event?

$45 is what I pay for a haircut here is Vegas. So that checks out as a decent price.

The brush looks amazing....but that price point is a bit steep for me. The gold letters are so crisp......I'm resisting going to my penny jar for help.....must. resist.

Thank you very much! The handle shape is a standard size chubby 2, and the colors are from the Union Jack.

I saw that brush when you posted in the what's new to you thread and liked it then. Seeing it again I still like it. I am not a brush collector or I would definitely grab one for me.

I have a small collection of Simpsons. This handle just grabbed me!

People like themes. Some people like theme weeks. Some manifest a theme across their shaving career, like those who 3017. I have no problem with any of this. I think it's a big part of why this is fun.

What @Spider and his minimalist brethren are demonstrating, in part, is how so much of what people do in wetshaving is optional to the act of shaving well. Unlike most themes, a statement is being made that makes me think. I'm not at all interested in giving that mode of shaving a try, but mainly because I do things a particular way to keep a severe ingrown condition off the map.

But I do have a setup I use sometimes, which would be for me the simplest setup I'd be perfectly content to use from here on out, if I had to:

Razor: Fatboy
Blade: Astra SP (3 shave limit. Sorry. Ingrowns)
Brush: PAA Amber Aerolite
Soap: Mitchell's Wool Fat
Aftershave: Skin Bracer

I am prepared to supply this shave for my lifetime of daily shaves, and wouldn't feel at all unequipped for a world class shave, every time.

Everything beyond this basic lineup is a blessing and a privilege, and I try to appreciate my good fortune every time I enjoy it.

So my theme, such as it was, was Orange. I was celebrating the acquisition of a long desired aftershave - Royall Mandarin.

It went well, although I'm still on the fence about the Tradere until I decide if enough is to be gained from training myself for its idiosyncratic angles.
