Today's shave:

Razor: Charcoal Goods Level 2
Blade: Wizamet Super Iridium
Brush: Simpson Commodore X3
Pre-Shave: Proraso Green
Lather: CBL Breakfast Blend
Aftershave: Captain's Choice Cat O' Nine Tails Bay Rum
Additional Care:
Humphreys Maravilla
Osma Tradition Alum Block

I get as good a shave out of this razor as any, which is to say, exactly the shave I want, most of the time. It's a very striking razor, one of three modern brass razors I'm attempting to nurture towards an attractive patina slowly enough for the pattern to be nice, but fast enough to actually see something before i die. The race is on. My only allowed chemical is water. After 3 years, the Karve CB is only just noticeable. It'll be close.

Today's shave:

Razor: Karve Overlander Stainless Steel

Lather: CBL Tonsorial Smokey Mountain Cedar
Aftershave: Ogalalla Bay Rum with Lime and Peppercorns
Additional Care:

Osma Tradition Alum Block

I look for, and collect soaps themed on the Great Smokey Mountains. That's my old neighborhood. I have this one. Smokey Mountain Rain, by Lakewood, Honeysuckle Hollow, by Lakewood, Gatlinburg, by Stirling, and a precious tub of Cades Cove, by the now defunct Talbot Grooming.

If you know any others, I'm always looking. I've almost got a theme week together for my birthday week.

This Tonsorial Base is flat out slick stuff, and no nonsense. I've got several varieties coming up.

I sure do enjoy using my Berkeley.

And there it was, staring up at me from the drawer - an aftershave I love, and haven't used in forever. Ogalalla Bay Rum with Lime and Peppercorn.

I have used the Overlander enough now to know that I want to use it for a good long while. It's a masterpiece.

I do like a lime and pepper combo. Stirling does/did a really nice one. Bay rum added in must be the icing on the cake! [emoji108]
It definitely is. And this is a low alcohol bay rum, so it's for those mornings or nights when you're not in the mood for a Captain's Choice slap in the face.

There's thumbs up all over the place about this shave, the tools, the level of focus and equipoise, which I was not expecting, but always welcome - gimme that in 30 minutes when I'm meditatng!

The Tonsorial Base is splendid, and I'm well-stacked. My final collection is going to be [emoji91].

I learned more important things about nursing tonight, than I knew I needed to know, but definitely needed to know. Drinks & Daves was a very interesting episode. I'm excited about next week, because I find coffee interesting, but not enjoyable enough to drink much of any more. Maybe next week's show will light a fire, and I'll break out the Aeropress.

Razor: Karve Overlander Stainless Steel

Aftershave: Shulton Old Spice Aftershave

So I've found myself in day three of a 30 day period of using the Overlander as a daily razor. I haven't done 30 days since 2020. That was with the Diamondback, and it was a terrific introduction to what is still my favorite DE razor.

I haven't had a screw up or bad shave event with this razor, and the alum is very subdued.

So I'm seeing how it is to live with for a bit.

I really like this razor. Both it and the Christopher Bradley feature a tiny moment of build quality shining forth that I enjoy. The smoothness, precision, and solidity that one feels when screwing or unscrewing the handle is unmatched in my experience by any other razor. 3 velvety turns, and all play is gone. It is the sound of a Mercedes door closing.

I'm having a lot of fun revisiting soaps that waited patiently as I spent some time catching up with incoming product, but now that my collection is pretty much set, I'm going back and perusing some really great stuff I haven't used in a while.

Shulton Old Spice, for my Dad, who hated shaving, but loved Old Spice.

And a word about Cella pre-shave. I use pre-shave for a specific purpose, when I choose to use it. That purpose is, to slow down the evaporation of water on my beard between the time the shower turns off, and I can get water waiting in my sink on my face. During that period, I towel off, which takes about a minute. The Cella Pre-Shave does keep my face wet during this period. As fast as it softening the beard, I have no experience of that. My philosophy is simple. If the whisker is saturated, it is as soft as it can be, so I keep it saturated as a top priority throughout the process. But I can also just keep wetting my face, so when I don't want my pre-shave scent to mix with my soap scent, I'll omit the pre-shave.

The soap checks every box.

Well shoot. I just took a shower in preparation for today's shave, and found my sense of balance so compromised that I deemed shaving unsafe. This is a first. I can't drive this way. I show no signs of heart or stroke, or anything beyond having to catch myself several times in the shower.

I'm going to follow my "router reboot* theory of operation and take an hour nap, and try this again...
