Today I broke out the 1920s Old Type. It provided a passable shave, but I have razors that do better.

Prep: Hot shower, Musgo Real Lime Glyce Soap, Proraso Green Pre-shave cream
Razor: 1920s Old Type
Blade: Astra SP (1)
Soap: Stirling Hipster (first use)
Brush: Simpson Berkeley
Post-shave: Osma Tradition Alum Block, cold water rinse
After-Shave: Royalle Lyme

It was a shave. The alum block spoke up a bit, and I have some DFS areas under my chin. I like the scent of Stirling Hipster, and the Berkeley has just the right amount of scritch. I'll be returning to the Diamondback tomorrow!

Thanks for reading and have a great shave!

Frank

See everyone tonight!

My dissatisfaction with today's shave finally prompted me to actually jump back in the shower, rehydrate my face, and do a one pass ATG with the Diamondback. All I could think of was how amazing it is to me that Nurse Dave shaved 8 times in close succession! It was a tender skin that endured this pass - the Old Type really took its toll on me. I'm declaring it a collectible that I probably won't use again. Well, after this shave, I passed on the splash and went for a bottle of Mennen Afta Original, and I slathered it on. It felt great, I must say. I used to use it a lot, but since I've been collecting splashes, I've passed on it since it's scent clashes with a lot of things. Today, it was a godsend! I feel much better now - it had been a long time since I had a mediocre shave, and it was really bugging me. First world problem.

Bummer about the Old Type. At least you didn’t have to settle and be stuck with the results!
Yes, it's too bad. It's my second one. My first I got way back when I started wet shaving. It has a bent tooth that I didn't notice and it scraped me pretty badly when I tried it out. I guess I'm not cut out for Old Types, but it's great to have something of that vintage. All my other classic Gillettes shave great.

That's very cool! I'll bet those are rare!

They are but someone had about 20 they came across last year and was selling on the BST when some of us got 1. They pop up on the bay sometimes. Think they were $20 or 25

A chilly mid-afternoon shave today, as I tried out Stirling Lemon Chill.

Prep: Hot shower, Musgo Real Lime Glyce Soap, Proraso Green Pre-shave cream
Razor: Paradigm Diamondback
Blade: Personna Israeli Red (2)
Soap: Stirling Lemon Chill (first use)
Brush: PAA StarCraft
Post-shave: Osma Tradition Alum Block
After-Shave: Cella Aftershave Lotion

I woke up late this morning after staying up late listening to a Korean Baseball Game. It's not a bad brand of baseball, although I enjoy watching pretty much any level of baseball, so long as it's not a defensive mess and the teams are competitive. Needless to say, being an Orioles fan, I've lately endured some pretty bad baseball. But the Korean brand is pretty good, although it's strange without the fans. But for a baseball fanatic, it's better than nothing, which is what I fear we'll end up getting from MLB this year. Anyway, I was a bit logey this early PM, so I decided to go with some mentholated goodness. I used the Proraso Green Pre-shave cream, and for my soap, I tried out Stirling's Lemon Chill. I loved the lemon scent, and it had a good solid kick of menthol that lasted several minutes beyond the final rinse down. The Diamondback did its marvelous job giving me a smooth four pass BBS with no irritation. I splashed on some Cella after shave lotion, and tried out my new bottle of Calvin Klein Eternity EdT, which is very nice indeed. I'm going to study for a few hours, and then settle in for a long evening learning to play an Xbox game called Elite: Dangerous, which is a space flight game that is completely open ended, with literally billions of star systems to explore, and has a commerce oriented business model, where one can just seek out being a soldier of fortune, mining asteroid fields, smuggling, above board shipping, and any manner of enterprises. But there is a steep learning curve. The instructions are 174 pages! But it's very highly reviewed, and I had such a good time earning my pilot's license, that I'm excited to get going and try out some strategies for earning enough credits to better outfit my ship. So, it'll be a complete day of leisure, which I intend to fully appreciate!

Thanks for reading, and have a great shave!

New game sounds fun! I’ve played a couple like it, such as EVE, Spore, and No Man’s Sky...the explorative elements can be a great time!

Yes, I'm going to start out by mining in asteroid belts and earn enough to buy a cargo ship, and then start shipping. There's a whole area of the game where you can engage in combat, but I'll get my butt kicked by the youngsters. I'm too old for combat drama. I just want to build a cargo fleet and see how that goes. The game database contains hundreds of thousands of explored planets, and it is possible to make a living just doing star charting and scanning the system planets. We'll see how it goes. Visually, it's a beautiful game, so I'm hoping to have some fun!

Fleet Overlord @fhalden does have a nice ring to it!

I didn't feel like shaving today until I was graced with a package from @NurseDave who very graciously sent me samples of Stirling Christmas Eve, and a CBL soap also in the evergreen vein whose name escapes me, and I'm already in bed, so I'll look it up tomorrow. Both are resplendent in piney goodness and are so right up my alley that I'm going to get both. Tonight I tried out Christmas Eve, and it was glorious! It's not just the scent of pine, but the scent of Christmas! And add to that the wonderful performance of a Stirling Soap, and I've been blessed with a new short list item of preferred soaps. I sure hope they bring it back, as I'll invest in the whole product line.

Prep: Hot shower, Musgo Real Lime Glyce Soap, Proraso Red Pre-shave cream
Razor: Paradigm Diamondback
Blade: Personna Israeli Red (3)
Brush: Parker Long Loft Badger
Soap: Stirling Christmas Eve (first use)
Post-shave: Osma Tradition Alum Block, cold water rinse
After-Shave: Adidas Dynamic (first use)

I pressed some of the soap into my scuttle, foregoing filling it with hot water and using it as a simple, albeit bulky, lather bowl. I have a Captain's Choice Copper bowl languishing somewhere in the postal system for the past ten days, so the scuttle had to do the trick. I reveled in the scent, which I enjoyed for all four passes, which left me with an irritation-free BBS, and a greatly lightened mood. Thanks so much Dave for sending the samples! Your kindness and generosity won't be forgotten. Tomorrow I'm going to try out the CBL soap, my first go round with this highly reviewed brand, so I'm very excited about that. So today was one of those shaves where I regret not doing it sooner, so completely did it brighten my day, shortly before its end. Christmas Eve is a great soap!

Thanks for reading, and have a great shave! And thanks again Dave!

Cool beans! I do know the Christmas Eve is a seasonal so I’d be surprised if you don’t see it in the fall.
